Football superstar Lionel Messi follows few football clubs on Instagram. The Barcelona legend recently followed Mexican football club Atlas, on Instagram.
Aside from Barcelona, and his boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys, Messi also follows Chelsea after a shock move which sent the rumour mill into overdrive four years ago.
But the latest club to gain his attention is even more surprising and certainly comes out of the blue – although we’re fairly certain this won’t generate any transfer rumours of a move to Mexico.
It is understood Messi has followed Atlas due to the involvement of former team-mate Rafael Marquez at the club.
The defender was a senior figure in the Nou Camp dressing room when Messi broke into the side as a youngster and has been working with the Liga MX club since his retirement in April.
It is not Messi’s only link to Atlas, having been given a shirt of the club by former international team-mate Oscar Ustari in the past.
The club seemed happy with the news, welcoming Messi to the ‘red-and-black family’ in a post on the social media site.
