Doing this, the group said, would not only strike a political balance among the geo-political zones of the country, but will also assuage expressions of marginalisation from the South East.
Addressing newsmen after a meeting of executive members of the Forum, from the 17 councils of the state, Chairman, Emeka Adile, said the decision was “reached after taking into cognizance the political development in the country and to make our position known on burning national issues. We urge the APC-led Federal Government and its national executive to, as a matter of urgency, zone the office of senate president to the South East. It is our belief that, if South East is given the opportunity to head the Ninth Senate, it would end the agitation of people of the zone.â€
The gesture, the AGF chairman noted, would “douse the fears of Ndigbo who feel marginalised in the scheme of things in the country.â€
The AGF congratulated winners of the last election including President Muhammadu Buhari, and the Senator representing Abia North, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, and called on all National Assembly members from the state to work as one family.
