Health / Kanu Foundation Performs Open Heart Surgeries In Abuja by Kinging: 07:11 am On 1 Jan 2019
Nwankwo Kanu Foundation
A milestone was achieved by the Kanu Heart Foundation in Abuja last week when three ailing children had successful open heart surgeries.
The surgeries were undertaken at the Alliance Hospital, Garki, Area 11 in the Federal Capital Territory, led by Dr. Rehan Sayeed
Mohammed in company with other surgeons who include Dr. Etobo.
Coordinator of the Kanu Heart Foundation, Pastor Onyebuchi Abia, who was also present at the hospital while the operations lasted, described the event as a medical feat.
“It was long in coming and we thank God that the operations went without any hitch whatsoever,” the coordinator remarked, adding that the three children were Ben Aruna, Kikilola Lawal and Kehinde Jaiyeoba.
“Two more children scheduled to be operated on in Abuja were held back in their localities and will now be operated on in February,” he said.
According to Pastor Abia, four children; Doris Onyeama, Memud Fadilullah, Sunday Jemima and Ogwuegbunam Benjamin are set to depart
Nigeria on February 1 for Sudan where they are scheduled to be operated on at the Salem Cardiac Center in the country’s capital, Khartoum.
Meanwhile, seven patients are having their visas processed ahead of their scheduled trip in mid-February to India where they would be operated on at the famous Vikram Hospital, Bangalore.
Over 400 patients have had their heart operations fully funded by the Kanu Heart Foundation since its inception in the year 2000, even as more than a hundred are currently on the waiting list pending availability of fund.

World Politics / What Saraki, Gov Ahmed Did In Kwara – Apc by Kinging: 07:02 am On 1 Jan 2019
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has accused Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of crippling the local government system in the state, as well as impoverishing the people.
Rafiu Ajakaiye, spokesman to the APC governorship candidate in Kwara, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said this in a statement in Ilorin on Sunday.
Ajakaiye was reacting to a statement credited to Ahmed that the Muhammadu Buhari administration brought hardship to the people at the grassroots by crippling local government administration.
“The truth is that the governor and his boss (Saraki) conditioned our people to poverty and underdevelopment, not Buhari.
“They crippled the local government system with repeated diversion of local government funds to some questionable joint accounts.
“We recall that protests by some local government chairmen including Dele Abiodun of Ekiti and Engineer Ajimati of Oyun local governments against this evil diversion of council funds were met with unlawful gestapo-like dismissal.
“It took the erudition of their lordships of the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court to reverse this,” Ajakaye added.
He said local councils in the state had been unable to serve the grassroots, execute any project or pay salaries because of the continued diversion of their funds by the state government.
“How is Buhari guilty of this? Has Buhari ever withheld funds to any of these councils? If not, on what basis can anyone accuse him of impoverishing the grassroots?
“The governor’s statement was a dubious yet failed attempt to deceive the public on the true state of the situation and this is both irresponsible and devilish.
“It exposes the governor and his boss as politicians who exploit people’s lack of access to basic education and information, which they systematically perpetuate, to lie over issues of governance,” he said.
Ajakaiye said no amount of falsehood would save the governor and his party from defeat.
He said Nigerians see the president as a man of honour and integrity who would not discriminate against any state in the running of his government.

Adegeye, who spoke at APC campaign rally, last Thursday, at Festac Town, Lagos which was attended by artisans, traders, residents and party supporters, explained that PVC is a weapon that residents can use to vote credible leaders in the election slated for February 16 and March 2nd this year.

Adegeye and several personalities who attended the rally, which included; Chairman of Amuwo Odofin, Mr. Buraimoh Valentine, Chairman of Oriade Local Council Developmdnt Area, LCDA, APC candidates in the State Assembly, and party chieftains, all expressed the need to sheathe their sword and work together for the victory of the party by mobilizing APC members to vote to justify the popularity of the party in the area.
Buhari in Onitsha, pledges to commence East/North railway line if re-elected
According to Adegeye; “We have been mobilizing people to get their PVC, we urge people to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission to collect their PVC at the council Secretariat, it’s important, that’s the avenue to partake in the election to vote APC candidates.”

Former Nigeria youth international Taiwo Awoniyi underlined his new-found form as he was the match winner again for his Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron as they won 2-1 at table-topping Genk.
Awoniyi, who is on loan at the club from Liverpool, struck in the 90th minute to deny the hosts a point from the game.
The 21-year-old striker was match winner last weekend on his debut and has now scored twice in two games.
Koulibaly returns to action at stadium where he suffered racist abuse
In the first round of the season, he failed to score in 16 league games for KAA Gent.
He has previously played for FSV Frankfurt and NEC on loan from Liverpool.
Awoniyi won U20 AFCON in 2015 in Senegal and was a world champion with Nigeria U17 in 2013.

World Politics / Inec Approves 144 Observers For Polls, U.s. Not Supporting Any Candidate by Kinging: 06:52 am On 1 Jan 2019
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday announced the names of 144 observers that will monitor the 2019 general elections.
INEC, however, threatened to cancel and withdraw the accreditation of any organisation if its members or agents breach the code of conduct.
The commission, in a notice on its website, warned that any unaccredited group found in any state for the elections would be handed over to law enforcement agencies.
It also said that accredited field observers found in states other than where they were posted would be sanctioned.
According to the commission, the list includes 116 local observers and 28 foreign observers.
“INEC is pleased to announce the successful applicants to observe the 2019 general elections holding on February 16, 2019 and March 2, 2019.
“All accredited observers shall abide by the code of conduct for election observers, which is available for download from the INEC website.”
Meanwhile, the United States of America has again cautioned against violence, saying election is not war.
The American government also stated that it is not supporting any presidential candidate.
The U.S. Consul General, John Braide, stated this yesterday, when he spoke at a ‘Vote not Fight’ sensitization campaign peace concert organized by Media Awareness and Justice Initiative (MAJI), held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“We are not here (in Nigeria) to support any candidate. We are here to support free, fair, credible and transparent election in Nigeria. Election is not war.”
Braide described Nigerians as lucky people and advised the electorate to use their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) to elect credible leaders on February 16 and March 2, elections.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usman Belel, advised Nigerian youths to ignore the destructive overtures of gullible politicians to use them to cause crisis during the forthcoming polls.
Belel noted that more than 70 percent of Nigerian voters are youths and advised “do not destroy your tomorrow today”.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Obo Effanga, said the commission was ready to conduct transparent elections.
He assured Nigerians that the election would be peaceful.

Jobs/Vacancies / Okitipupa Oil Palm Firm To Recall Sacked Workers by Kinging: 06:49 am On 1 Jan 2019
Okitipupa Oil Palm Company Plc (OOPC) has said it is ready to re-absorb some of its sacked workers after a protracted strike lasting over three months.
The Guardian learnt that the industrial strike had adversely affected the ongoing repositioning efforts of the firm which was revived last year under a new management.
The workers, before their sack, deposited various charms and fetish objects at strategic locations at the premises of the firm to scare and prevent workers and the management staff from accessing the offices and the plantations.
However, the decision to re-absorb the workers was sequel to a plea from security agencies that participated in a recent Security Summit held in Okitipupa on ways to end illegal harvesting of the company’s products, growing insecurity threats to its operations, its facilities and personnel.
Similarly, the traditional rulers of the communities hosting the company’s 10 oil palm plantations said that disengaging the workers could further worsen the bad security situation in the host communities.
Chairman of OOPC Management Committee, Mr Wale Osomo, while speaking on the re-absorption process, added that the re-absorption would be enjoyed only by sacked workers who were ready to key into the new vision, values, ethics and operational policies of the repositioned company.
Present at the meeting were the security agencies, the management and some board members of OOPC, the sacked workers and some stakeholders from the communities hosting the plantations.
