The withdrawal of Oby Ezekwesili, presidential Candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) from the 2019 presidential race has been rejected by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC said it was acting on the Electoral Act which stipulates that a candidate would only withdraw from the race no less that 45 days to the date of elections.

Oby Ekewesili, Thursday morning, withdrew her candidacy in the presidential race for a coalition that will present a formidable opponent to the powerful two(APC and PDP)

According to Ezekwesili, her withdrawal is a thoughful response to calls by well-meaning Nigerians home and abroad to beget a viable alternative behind which Nigerians can line up in a collective search for a new beginning.


“Despite disagreements within the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria on these and other issues, I have decided that it is now necessary to show by action and example my determination on this issue by stepping down my candidacy and focusing on building the coalition once and for all,” she said Thursday morning.

She continues, “We have no right to allow citizens give in to despair. We will #Fight4Naija together, and prove to all that the mess that has now become the political class will not be allowed to destroy our spirits and the nation. We are also determined to ensure that the message keeps resonating that our beloved country deserves better and that we will get the best that we deserve”.

Lionel Messi is set to make his Argentina comeback in the upcoming international friendly against Venezuela on March 22 after almost nine months away from the national team, Goal can reveal.

The 31-year-old has not represented his country since Argentina’s 4-3 loss at the hands of France in the round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup, focusing on his club duties with Barcelona so far in 2018-19.

There were doubts initially over whether he would retire from international duty altogether, but it soon emerged that the forward would likely wear the Albiceleste jersey again at some stage in 2019.

"I do not talk very often with Messi, but we have a relationship," national team coach Lionel Scaloni said in December.

"We are going to try for him to join us in 2019, we have pending talks and we are optimistic that it will be positive.

“For us it is something important. Any coach would like to coach him, myself more than any."

Messi has yet to officially confirm when he will take to the pitch for Argentina again, but reports have it that he is due to make his comeback in the next international break in March.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to make it a point of “duty to man and to God” to prosecute those who wasted $16billion on electricity.

Oshiomhole urged Buhari to probe the controversial $16billion power fund “wasted” on the power sector by the administration of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.

Speaking during the APC Presidential campaign rally in Warri, Delta State, on Thursday, the former Edo State governor also insisted that the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar was not fit to rule Nigeria.

Oshiomhole urged Buhari to “ensure that he follows through till he gets answers to how the $16billion appropriated by the previous PDP administration was spent and ensure that everyone involved in the mismanagement is punished.

“Uduaghan, you will recall as Governor of Delta State, despite the fact that you were a PDP Governor and I was in ACN as Governor, when PDP decided to sell BEDCO which covers Delta, Edo, Ondo and Ekiti states, we agreed that if PDP does the privatisation in the manner they wanted to do it, the economy of the South-South would be destroyed.

“We spoke loud at the National Economic Council. We told Jonathan ‘don’t do it’. We told PDP not to deceive the people but they went ahead. Uduaghan and I held a press conference at my private residence in Benin. We warned that this DISCO, which is owned by a family, will destroy the economy of our states.


“Today, are you not having power crisis in Delta State? Even in Edo State, the Governor is fighting every day. They took $16billion in the name of power supply. They took the money and put it in their pockets and Nigeria remains in the dark. They signed agreement of 20 years, which is difficult to revive.

“But, Mr President, in your second term, I urge you with respect sir; you must fulfill the question which we have asked. After $16billion, you will ask, where is the light? Mr. President, you have a duty to man and to God, to ensure that that question must be answered. It must be answered judiciously. It must be answered in the court of law and what people are entitled to know.”

On Atiku’s candidature, he said: “Yesterday I was watching the television and I saw PDP presidential candidate and a former customs officer (Atiku). He was saying in the likely event that Nigerians make the mistake of their lives to vote for him (Atiku) as President, whether they like it or not, even if he would die, that he will sell the oil reserves of Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo states and that he would auction all oil properties of Nigeria, whether they [Nigerians] like it or not.

“If somebody puts you on notice that if you vote for him that he is going to sell your family, will you agree? Will you vote for him? When Atiku was the Vice-President, I was the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress. When they wanted to sell Nigeria Airways, when we told him ‘no’, he [Atiku] said he doesn’t care. He just wanted to sell Nigeria Airways.”

The United States chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said the visit of the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to the country doesn’t cleanse him of the alleged corruption allegations against him.

“The questionable character of the individual does not evaporate because he has stepped on the soil of America,” Adeshegun Labinjo, chairman, U.S. chapter of APC said in a statement on Friday.

“A thief remains a thief no matter where he or she visits. Obviously, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has every reason to have kept off the USA given the cloak of corruption he is wearing.”

“After a long spell of noticeable absence and factual concerns about Alhaji Abubakur Atiku’s antecedents in the USA arising from his dealings with former Congressman William Jefferson of Louisiana, who was convicted and served a jail term on account of bribery resulting from a telecommunication transaction in Nigeria, Atiku is now here again in the US,” he added.

Labinjo further stated that the presidential candidate’s “entry and presence in the USA is a mockery of President Bush Presidential Proclamation 7750 which affirms the denial of US visa to foreign officials involved with corruption and other supporting legislations by the congress.”

“APC-USA believes that Alhaji Abubakar Atiku should be held accountable for his involvement in money laundering.” he added.


Abubakar arrived Washington Dulles International Airport alongside Senate President Bukola Saraki on Friday. He is expected to speak at the United States Chamber of Commerce in DC on Friday

The former Vice President has not visited the United States since he was indicted about 13 years ago.

Abubakar and his fourth wife Jennifer Douglas, an American citizen, were allegedly indicted in 2010 in a 328-page American Senate committee report for transferring over $40 million “suspect funds” to America from offshore accounts between 2002 and 2008.

He insisted on several occasions that he has done nothing wrong stating he can be Nigerian president without visiting America, one of Nigeria’s most important allies

Abubakar served as Nigerian vice president between 1999 and 2007.

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Denis Suarez but Barcelona have refused to give the green light for the deal to be completed, according to Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague.

Unai Emery is keen to add to his squad this month as he looks to stay in touch in the race for Champions League football.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday at a business summit in Lagos vowed to enrich his friends if elected president.

“I am not going to enrich members of my family but my friends.

“Are my friends not entitled to be enriched? As long as there is no element of corruption there,” the former vice president said.

A Eurasia Group report published on January 7 said that Atiku will enrich himself and his cronies if elected president and would also “pose the risk of a return to an even more rent-seeking governing style'”

The US Political risk consultancy group labelled Atiku a “gerontocrat who would focus on enriching himself and his cronies, avoiding the difficult and politically unpopular tasks necessary for reform.”

Atiku and his running mate Peter Obi were speaking to the business community in Lagos as part of their campaign for the February 2019 elections.

Atiku, while discussing one of his key campaign points, the privatisation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), vowed to carry out the privatisation even if there are threats to his life.


“I am committed to privatizing NNPC, I said it. I swear. Even if they are going to kill me, I will do it.

“At the end of the day, privatizing NNPC is going to be to our own advantage because you are not going to lose anything”, the Atiku said.

Atiku oversaw the privatization of hundreds of loss-making and underperforming public institutions when he was vice president under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure.

“And there was none during our time, when we privatized the banks, when we privatized institutions of the private sector,” Atiku said at the business summit.

“I have not heard anybody coming to say either the president or myself, took money to do that.

“So the intention of deregulating the economy and giving the private sector the responsibility of driving the economy, of course is to bring about prosperity to members of the public.”

In explaining part of his strategy to tackle corruption, at the event, themed “Getting Nigeria’s Economy Working: A Pragmatic Approach”, Atiku promised to implement an effective monitoring system to checkmate corrupt officials.

“If you make it mandatory and compulsory for every public official who has to issue an approval, a license or anything to the private sector or anybody for that matter will lose his job, and you have an efficient monitoring system, you would have dealt a blow to corruption.”

Alicia Keys has been announced as the host of the 2019 Annual Grammy Awards, which are set to air live on CBS February 10th at 8 p.m. ET.


The Recording Academy and CBS announced on Tuesday morning that the 15-time Grammy winner will host the 61st annual show.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo is currently presiding over the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has denied suggestions Bayern Munich are in talks with Chelsea to sign him.

The German champions placed the England Under-19 international on their wish list earlier this month.

Bayern have had several bids for Hudson-Odoi rejected by the Blues, who have been steadfast in their eagerness to keep the 18-year-old at Stamford Bridge.

On Wednesday morning, Bayern’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic claimed the Bavarians are currently negotiating a deal for the youngster, who they last valued at £35million.

"We want to sign the player," Salihamidzic told Sport Bild when asked about the club’s pursuit of Hudson-Odoi.

"I am fully convinced of his abilities. We are in talks with Chelsea."

However, Hudson-Odoi has appeared to deny the former Bayern midfielder’s claim on Instagram.

In a hastily-deleted Instagram story post, Hudson-Odoi wrote: “Don’t always believe what you hear!”


Bayern Munich confirmed their interest in signing Hudson-Odoi - who has made nine first-team appearances this season - earlier this month.

Their admission drew the ire of Chelsea chief Maurizio Sarri, who last week said: “I think it’s not professional, because they are talking about a player under contract with Chelsea.

“So they didn’t respect our club.”

One man who wants to see Hudson-Odoi swap London for Munich is former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben, who believes the midfielder can flourish in the Bundesliga the same way Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson have.

“He is one of the best (young players) in Europe," Robben told beIN Sports.

"You are better off getting your chance and if you get that chance then you have to take it.

Rihanna is suing her father, Ronald Fenty, for exploiting her name in what she says are his own million-dollar business deals.

According to a the suit, obtained by USA TODAY, Rihanna has sued her father and his business partner, Moses Perkins, for invasion of privacy and "egregiously and fraudulently" misrepresenting that their company, Fenty Entertainment, is affiliated with the pop star.


Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, says she has nothing to do with her father's company.

“Although Mr. Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he does not have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf," reads the suit filed Tuesday in federal court in Los Angeles.

Fraudulent bookings, the lawsuit states, include a $15 million tour in Latin America, along with two concerts in Los Angeles and one in in Las Vegas for $400,000.


Rihanna claims to have nothing to do with those bookings.

The lawsuit says she has attempted to stop her father and his business partner by way of cease and desist letters to her father and his business partner to no avail.

Rihanna says in the lawsuit that she has used the name Fenty for her cosmetics and other businesses since 2012; Fenty Entertainment was started in 2017.


The 30-year-old singer's relationship with her father has been historically rocky.

In a 2011 interview with Vogue, Rihanna opened up about feeling betrayed by her father after he told the media "a bunch of lies," she said, following her assault by her ex, Chris Brown.

"It really makes me question what I have become to my father. Like, what do I even mean to him?" she asked. "He never called to find out how I was doing, if I was alive, nothing. He just never called. He went straight to the press and got a check."


But a year later, in a 2012 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Rihanna said she’d managed to repair her relationship with her father, whom she saw behaving violently toward her mother. Rihanna's parents separated when she was 14.

“I witnessed a lot of (violence) as a child in my household,” she told Winfrey in an episode of OWN’s “Next Chapter,” adding, “My family broke up because of his addiction.”

“I remember one day, thinking, ’Why can’t I come to a place where I can let somebody in? Why can’t I love?' ... I wasn’t able to connect with a man past a certain point. In 2016, Ronald Fenty told Now magazine his famous daughter bought him a $1.8 million house in Barbados after he said he'd become a tourist attraction in Rihanna's home country.

A study carried out by researchers from the University of Coventry and the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom, has revealed that regular s*xual activity could be linked to improved brain function in older adults.

The researchers found that people who had regular s*x scored higher on tests that measured their verbal fluency and their ability to visually perceive objects and the spaces between them.

According to sciencedaily.com, the study published in The Journals of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological and Social Sciences, involved 73 people aged between 50 and 83 years.

The participants filled questionnaires on how often, on the average, they had engaged in s*xual activity in the past 12 months and they answered questions about their general health and lifestyle.


The 28 men and 45 women also took part in a standardised test, which was typically used to measure different patterns of brain function in older adults, focusing on attention, memory, fluency, language and visuo-spatial ability.

The test included verbal fluency tests in which participants had 60 seconds to name as many animals as possible, and then to say as many words, beginning with the letter F, as they could.

The participants also took part in tests to determine their visuo-spatial ability, which included copying a complex design and drawing a clock face from memory.

The study noted that participants, who engaged in s*xual activities every week, had the highest scores in both sets of tests, with the verbal fluency tests showing the strongest effect.

The researchers said the results suggested that the frequency of s*xual activity was not linked to attention, memory or language as the participants performed well in these tests regardless of whether they reported weekly, monthly or had no s*x.


The lead researcher of the study, Dr Hayley Wright, from Coventry University’s Centre for Research in Psychology, Behaviour, and Achievement, said, “We can only speculate whether this is driven by social or physical elements, but an area we would like to research further is the biological mechanisms that may influence this.

“Every time we do another piece of research we are getting a little bit closer to understanding why this association exists at all, what the underlying mechanisms are and whether there is a ‘cause and effect’ relationship between s*xual activity and cognitive function in older people.

“People don’t like to think that older people have s*x, but we need to challenge this misconception at a societal level and look at what impact s*xual activity can have on those aged 50 and above, beyond the known effects on s*xual health and general wellbeing.”

An 18-year-old Grade pupil at Vorentoe High School, committed suicide at her home in Klipspruit, South Africa after allegedly being bullied by her teacher.

Nicole Mnguni took her own life on Tuesday, January 8, after returning from the school to fetch her report, which they allegedly refused to give to her. She left a note which details the alleged abuse by the teacher.

She also stated she wanted peace and to be with her father.

Mnguni is said to have been a victim of harassment and bullying by her teacher, and the school is aware of the case, but had allegedly not taken any action to address the case.


Her mother, Jessica Mnguni is demanding justice.

She told the country's local newspaper- Soweto Urban she could see that her child’s self-esteem was dead.

“Nicole is so bubbly but that woman killed her self-esteem, so she couldn’t take it. There was a time I went to the school, this teacher asked, are you Nicole’s mother?

“I said yes… She said your child, I was even shouting at her, she’s not doing well in class. I don’t know why she doesn’t drop it, and she’s not going to be anybody in life. I am not hurt, I am finished.”

Her friend, Mmathabo Makibelo, described her as an amazing soul who had a vision.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that the ongoing industrial dispute will continue except certain acceptable conditions are met.

It said to end the strike, the Federal Government must urgently release additional N50 billion to the N20 billion released earlier for revitalisation fund, show evidence of mainstreaming the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) into the 2019 budget and evidence of the payment of shortfall in salaries.

President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in an interview with The Guardian yesterday, said the union rejected the latest proposal of the government after due consultations with members, pointing out that government’s offer was meagre.

He added that the association’s reservations would be communicated to the Federal Government today at the inauguration of the platform for addressing matters relating to state universities.


Ogunyemi said: “The last time we met with representatives of government, they gave us their proposal and we said we will present it to our members and their reactions to the items of the proposal will be sent back to them within a week. And now, we are almost through with the consultation and we will communicate areas of disagreement to them today.



“They are basically two or three major areas; one is on the revitalisation fund. We presented to them that government owed an outstanding balance of N1.1 trillion in five tranches. But what government eventually proposed is something that is far-fetched.

They were talking about N20 billion that will be released in two tranches starting from next quarter, and we felt that will not address the issue at hand. Though they said that they released N20 billion earlier, the N20 billion was to be released in 2017, if they released it in November 2018, it is not the same thing.




“Out of the N20 billion that the government released earlier, we have outstanding N200 billion. So, if government can release N50 billion in addition to the N20 billion released earlier; and the remaining N150 billion can be released on quarterly basis within this year, N50 billion each for the remaining three quarters, then it will show a sign of commitment.”



Additionally, the group demanded that for EAA and shortfall in salaries, government should provide evidence of its promises and give specific information and guidelines to its proposals.



“Although government has shown us a paper authorising the release of N15.89 billion to universities, but universities have not confirmed receipt. As far as ASUU is concerned, it is an issue of ‘once bitten, twice shy,’” he further stated.

Controversy has greeted the use of hijab by some female Muslim pupils of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology International School, Ogbomoso.

About 50 pupils of the tertiary institution’s secondary school, on Monday, appeared in hijab.

However, the school’s authorities responded swiftly, as the pupils were either locked out of the school gate or asked to remove the unofficial items of dressing.

An academic staff who seems to be interested in the case (names withheld) leaked the development to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The statement he sent via e-mail reads, “Hijab imbroglio: Welcome to LAUTECH Secondary School, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

“The story dates back to 2011, when the first request was made to the Governing Board of the school to allow our willing Muslim female children to use hijab as part of their school uniform in line with Islamic dictates.

“Since 2011, several letters of appeal have been written to the Governing Council, while we wait endlessly without any concrete positive response to our simple request.

“Our Muslim girls, over the period, have been using beret instead of hijab in their own case, contrary to the Islamic dictates.

“Our patience, over time, as law abiding citizens, was premised on our belief that the management of the school will do the needful and give regard to the rule of law and provision of the Constitution guaranteeing fundamental human rights of everybody.


“Having waited endlessly since 2011, it was decided on the 4th of January, 2019 that our willing Muslim female children should commence the use of hijab as school resumed on 7/1/2019.”

Confirming the development, the principal of the school, Mr. Ibrahim Animashaun, sued for peace.

He said in a telephone conversation with our Correspondent that, “The school board of governors is yet to approve the use of hijab.

“And the board is looking at their letter. So, we are yet to communicate to them.

“Until we communicate with them. The status quo remains until the board approves their request.

“We spoke with the aggrieved parents that their letter is still with the board.

“LAUTECH International School Board of Governors is looking at their letter.”

Audition centers for the fourth edition of Big Brother Naija have been officially released.


The African top reality show, which will for the first time hold in Nigeria, will be hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

The auditions as announced by DSTV will hold on Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 in eight locations across Nigeria, an increase from previous editions.


Candidates are expected to be 21 years and above, and report to audition centres with valid international passports.

In what could be called “strange but real” a man has pulled a car with his pennis. The spectacle was recorded as the man participated in a religious procession towards Sangam area, during the first ‘royal entry’ for the Magh Mela in Allahabad on December 25, 2018.


A similar feat was recorded during the same festival last year when a man, known famously as ‘P*n*s Baba’, pulled a heavy tractor with his genitalia.

With the help of a rope tied to his genitals, the baba manages to pull the heavy tractor, leaving many onlookers shocked.

P*n*s Baba does this routinely, also pulling a car scores of feet and always leaving spectators in awe of his power. P*n*s Baba said his performance shows the ‘power of devotion.’ ‘It is not art. It is the power of God – the power of devotion,’ he said.

However, the feat appears common in Asia. In 2017, a Chinese Ye Wei, from China moved seven vehicles for 26ft using his genitals.

The 39-year-old broke his personal record of pulling five Audi cars in 2016. The stunt, Xi Sui Gong, is said to be practised by Taoists to improve their fertility.

Petr Cech has announced that he will be retiring from professional football at the end of the season, with the Arsenal goalkeeper to bring an end of a 20-year career.

The vastly-experienced keeper feels the time is right to walk away as he has "won every single trophy possible".

He will turn 37 shortly after the current Premier League campaign comes to a close and admits he continue to work hard for the Gunners, aiming to win a trophy in what is his final season.

Cech posted in a message on social media: "This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire at the end of this season.

"Having played 15 years in the Premier League, and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve.

"I will continue to work hard at Arsenal and hopefully win one more trophy this season, then I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch."

Cech started his career on the books of home-town club Viktoria Plzen.

It was, however, at Chmel Blsany that he would make his senior bow and begin to climb the professional ladder.

He was handed a debut at just 17 years of age and required a little over 12 months in which to secure himself a switch to Sparta Prague.

Cech then made his international bow with the Czech Republic in 2002, as the first signs of interest from England began to emerge.

His next stop was, however, to be France, with two seasons taken in with Rennes.

His Imperial Majesty, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, the Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, has stated that the presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, is the true fighter of corruption in Nigeria.

The traditional ruler disclosed this on Monday while receiving the PDP’s candidate and party Chieftains in his Palace in Akure, Ondo State.

According to him, “I’ve heard a lot about Atiku as a very successful businessman. I also learnt he was the brain behind the establishment of EFCC and that shows he understands how to fight corruption.

“You can’t be corrupt and yet create an institution that will fight corruption. Speaking on the competency of the former vice president, the Paramount ruler acknowledged that having served as the nation’s number two man, that it shows he has what it takes to govern.

“This is the type of people that Nigeria needs and should be put forward in these times when the economy is going down.

“As traditional rulers, we must be neutral. I’m just saying what I heard about him. If Nigerians think deeply, they should know who to vote for,” he said.

In his response, Atiku faulted the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, for failing to deliver on their promises and made Nigeria the poverty capital of the world.


“They are aware they have not delivered. That is why they cannot willingly come out to campaign. They won’t come to you as we have come talking to you now. I can assure you that we shall focus more attention on youth development by granting them 40% participation in the cabinet when we come to power.

“As for the PDP, we shall continue to uphold traditional institutions and protect the people’s heritage.”

Speaking earlier, the Deputy Chairman of the PDP Campaign Organization for the South and a Chieftain of Akure Kingdom, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, disclosed that Atiku will rescue the dire situation the country is in and restore all lost fortunes.

“I know the people of Ondo State cannot be deceived. We can easily judge the APC by what the government has done in the past three and a half years and that is the best they can give you.

“Atiku Abubakar will rescue the situation and restore the lost fortunes.

“Yorubaland is faced with a lot of challenges under the current administration and we must do things differently by finding a better alternative and voting for someone who knows the challenges and has the interest of the Yoruba people at heart and that person is Atiku Abubakar.”
