World Politics / Re: Why Saraki Must Stop Campaigning For Pdp – Labour Leader by lokoso: 02:49 pm On 2 Feb 2019
GabrielT:Trade union activist and labour leader, Issa Aremu has called on the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to resume his duties at the National Assembly and stop campaigning for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Aremu called on Saraki to emulate the legacy of his late father, Olusola, by ensuring the passage of the new National Minimum Wage Bill.
Aremu, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin, recalled that the late Saraki, as the Senate leader, presided over the Senate committee that midwife the emergence of the first national minimum wage in 1981 under President Shehu Shagari.
The labour leader, who described the late Saraki as “a wonderful symbol of democracy’’ who showed concern for the plight of workers, urged the Senate President to also write his name in gold by reconvening the Senate to pass the new Bill.
“The Senate President, Bukola Saraki should be on duty regarding this all important Bill. I remind him to emulate his father.
“Today he is going up and down as Campaign Director-General of the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, but he should remember that he has not resigned as the Senate President.
“He should resume his work to pass the Bill to concur with the House of Representatives
“He must declare his position on the N27,000 and N30,000 recommendations.
“He must act fast like the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara did, so that we can make it a reality and the President will sign the Bill into law,’’ he said.
Aremu, the former Secretary-General of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, commended the House of Representatives for promptly passing the National Minimum Wage Bill.
He also hailed the lower chamber for endorsing N30,000 minimum wage across board – Federal and State governments, ensuring that the minimum wage could not be polarised.
President Muhammadu Buhari had in January transmitted the Bill to the National Assembly for passage into law.

INEC postpones general electionsBy Mod - 24 minutes ago - [ Update ]

[FILE PHOTO] INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu

The Independent National Electoral Commission has postponed the presidential and National Assembly elections earlier scheduled for Saturday.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, announced this at a press briefing on Saturday morning held at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

“Following a careful review of the implementation of its logistics and operational plan, and the determination to conduct free, fair, and credible elections, the commission came to the conclusion that proceeding with the elections as scheduled is no longer feasible,” Yakubu said.

Yakubu said the Presidential and National Assembly elections, initially scheduled for Saturday, February 16, will now hold on February 23, while the governorship and state houses of assembly elections will take place on March 9.

The press briefing followed a crucial meeting of the INEC boss with top officials of the commission which started late on Friday night.

“This was a difficult decision for the Commission to take, but necessary for the successful delivery of the elections and the consolidation of our democracy,” Yakubu said.

“The Commission will meet key stakeholders to update them on this development at 2 p.m. on Saturday, 16th February 2019 at the Abuja International Conference Centre,” he added.

Polling centres were initially meant to open Saturday at 8 a.m., with more than 84 million registered voters across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The postponement may heighten tensions in what has been a tight race between incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, and his main challenger from the People’s Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar. The political parties of both candidates have accused each other of trying to rig the vote.

Buhari arrived his home town of Daura, in Katsina State on Thursday, where he was planning to vote. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had also travelled to Lagos to vote.

In reaction to the postponement, Osinbajo’s spokesman Laolu Akande said: “This is truly disappointing, but the march to the next level continues.”

It will not be the first time that the Commission would postpone a scheduled general election.

In 2015, the presidential election was shifted from February 14 to March 28th, 2015; while the governorship and assembly elections scheduled for 28 February were shifted to 11 April. The elections were postponed because of security issues.

In the previous election cycle in 2011, the National Assembly elections were postponed on the day the election was to be held due to logistics failure.

Why we suspended campaign to receive Buhari – d**ksonBy Mod - 10 minutes ago - [ Update ]

By Samuel Oyadongha & Emem Idio

YENAGOA—GOVERNOR Seriake d**kson of Bayelsa State has said the office and person of the President of Nigeria must be respected during visits to the state, irrespective of political differences.

Governor d**kson

 How to live by faith

d**kson, in a statement in Yenagoa, said he had to put the intensified political campaigns of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on hold to receive President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, in honour of the office and President of the country during his Tuesday’s visit to the state for campaign.

He said: “On Tuesday, we showed the finest part we are made of. We Bayelsans are indeed decent and honourable people. We as a state welcomed our President, who wore two hats.

“Our standard here in Bayelsa which we have shown time and time again, sometimes at great cost but we insist on doing what is right, what is civil, decent and proper for our people so that generations will learn to do what is right at all times.

“Our standard in this state is that when the leader of our country visits, partisan divide are ignored because our state extends the traditional formal courtesies to the president or Vice President and all of you in this state know what we have shown in that regard.

“Even when I was campaigning, I had to receive the Vice President who came in to campaign for my opponent that is the standard we have set. For us in this state, despite Mr. President politics and policies, the office and person must be respected and we commend that to all.

“I want to thank the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council and our royal fathers, majesties and highnesses and leaders of our state for assembling to receive the President.”

After endorsing Moghalu, Soyinka hails Buhari govt on railway projectBy Mod - 8 minutes ago - [ Update ]

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has said he is content with the efforts made by the All Progressives Congress, APC, government of President Muhammadu Buhari in completing the first phase of the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail from Iju Lagos to Abeokuta.

He stated this on Friday in Abeokuta, Ogun state during the declaration of a three-month free train service by the Federal Government on the newly-inaugurated rail line.

This is coming on the heels of Soyinka’s endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Young Progressives party, YPP, Kingsley Moghaluearlier in the day.

At the train station in Abeokuta, Soyinka in his goodwill message said, “This is not a political vote gathering occasion but my house is somewhere in that direction not far from here and this used to be part of my hunting grounds and so I came to see for what my hunting grounds were appropriated and so far, so content.

“For now we are keeping our feet on the ground looking at the opportunities for our small traders, commuters, etcetera.

“This is not a do-or-die occasion but a do and do occasion. Congratulations everyone involved in this enterprise, let’s turn around and rock it.”

Meanwhile, dignitaries had embarked on the train ride from Iju in Lagos to Abeokuta which is about 61 kilometers of the entire 156-kilometer stretch of the project. The train took off from Kilometer 21 and stopped at Kilometer 82 in Laderin, Abeokuta.

However the Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo who was initially billed to grace the test-run was absent without any reason given for his absence.

In the train were the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state, the paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Managing Director of the China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), Jiang Yigao, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr. Fidet Okhiria, among others.

On his part, Amaechi declared the occasion was not a commissioning but a test-run of the first phase of the project, saying as from Saturday a three-month free train service would commence.

He said the train would run thrice daily; in the morning, afternoon and evening to enable people go to work in Lagos and return to Ogun state evening.

They joined the ruling party at the Ekiti Parapo pavilion, venue of the APC rally on Tuesday.

The Nigerian Passports Will Henceforth Be Produced LocallyBy Mod - 7 minutes ago - [ Autos ]

The Nigerian international passport will now be produced in Nigeria.

This was revealed after the federal government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iris Smart Technology Limited, an indigenous company, and Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc at the Ministry of Interior in Abuja.

The MoU will see that the Nigerian international passport will be produced locally.

At the event to sign the MoU, the minister of interior , Abdulrahman Dambazau, revealed that the process that led to the signing of the MoU began two years ago.

Listing the advantages of Nigeria producing the e-passport Dambazau said it would protect the country’s our data base, create employment and allow Nigerians acquire skills in passport production.

“We must ensure that we provide Nigerians with the best quality passport booklet because that is what Nigerians deserve,” he said on Tuesday.

On his part, Mohammed Babandede, immigration comptroller-general, thanked the minister for ensuring that domestication of production of the passport was achieved.

Babandede stated that the first copy to be produced would be tested to ensure that it had the desired quality.

Abbas Masanawa, managing director, Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc, assured that they would not disappoint Nigerians, adding that they would produce the passport that would compete with passports in the world.

Sports / Re: Flying Eagles Delay World Cup Qualification by lokoso: 06:52 am On 2 Feb 2019
Genjina:Flying Eagles’ quest to become the first African team to qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland has been put on the ice following a barren draw with South Africa yesterday at the Stade General Seyni Kountche in Niamey.

Amajita as the South African youth team are called, claimed their second point at the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations while the Flying Eagles have four points after two matches played at the tournament.

The South Africans were bidding for their first win of the competition but fell short of their target but would be nonetheless pleased to scrape a point against the tournament favourites and record African champions.

Amajita struggled to get the ball off Nigeria early on, but they did manage to carve out a chance, which Siphesihle Mkhize failed to capitalise on.

Flying Eagles, coached by former Enyimba gaffer, Paul Aigbogun, were in control for most of the first half, however they were unable to trouble Khulekani Kubheka.in goal for the South Africa. They were wasteful and lacked creative in front of goal. Barely forcing their opponents goalkeeper to make a telling save.

In the second half, Thabo Senong’s charges showed a bit more adventure and managed to string a few passes together following the introduction of Promise Mkhma.

The Nigerians took control for the rest of the second half in search of a winning goal that would secure their spot in the semifinal sdtage.

Unfortunately, that was the pattern for the rest of the half as the Nigerians now search for the World Cup ticket in their last group match against hosts Niger Republic on Friday while Amajita battle Burundi in the other clash on same day.

Preshemeka600:Economic hardship, BVN, others take blame
Banks strategise against worsening situation

By Babajide Komolafe

MORE Nigerians have abandoned their bank accounts majorly due to economic hardship caused by sluggish economic growth, rising job losses and reduction in purchasing power occasioned by double digit inflation.

Statistics from the Nigeria Interbank Settlement System, NIBSS, showed that Nigerians abandoned 10 million bank accounts in 2018. NIBSS is owned by all Nigerian banks and the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

Banking hall
According to the company, the number of bank accounts abandoned by bank customers and hence categorised as ‘inactive bank accounts’ rose by 28 percent to 46.7 million in 2018 from 36.7 million in 2017.

Depositor-initiated transaction

According to the CBN 2015 guidelines on dormant accounts, “An account shall become inactive if there has been no customer or depositor-initiated transaction for a period of six months after the last customer or depositor initiated transaction.”

This implies that in just one year, ten million bank accounts recorded zero transactions.

Financial Vanguard analysis also showed a steady growth in the number of inactive bank accounts between 2014 and 2018.

According to NIBSS, inactive bank accounts grew faster than active bank accounts in the past five years, 2014 to 2018.

During this period, inactive bank accounts grew by 73 percent while active bank accounts grew by 35 percent. While inactive bank accounts increased by 19.61 million to 46.7 million in 2018 from 27.09 million in 2014, active bank accounts rose by 24.75 million to 71.2 million in 2018 from 46.45 million in 2014.

Financial Vanguard investigations and the comments from both bankers and bank customers, indicate that factors responsible for the steady and huge growth in the number of inactive bank accounts are many and varied. These include ownership of multiple bank accounts by some bank customers, breakdown in bank-customer relationship, Biometric Verification Number (BVN) issues, incomplete account opening documentation and Know Your Customer, KYC, challenges as well as increased efforts against money laundering and other financial frauds by banks and the regulatory authorities.

However, most of the bankers and individuals who spoke to Financial Vanguard, cited economic difficulties and business failures as well as rising job losses as the major causes.

Okechukwu Uzor, a teacher, does not see the need to continue to operate his bank account.

“I have an account with a zero balance which I have abandoned. If I have the money I will credit the account. The money is not enough to feed talk-less of saving it in the bank”, he told Financial Vanguard.

Economic downturn

“The factors mainly responsible for the rise in inactive bank accounts are economic downturn/business failures and inactivity on salary accounts due to loss of job,” said FirstBank in response to Financial Vanguard enquiries.

Last year, the National Bureau of Statistics reported that the number of unemployed Nigerians rose by 3.3 million to 20.3 million in the third quarter of 2018 (Q3’18) compared to third quarter of 2017 (Q3’17).

This, according to Uju Ogubunka, President of Bank Customers Association of Nigeria (BCAN) will definitely lead to inactivity in bank accounts.

“The current situation where people are being laid off is responsible. If your job stops and you have been depending on your salary; now if your salary is not coming in, whatever you get, you just use it to oil your daily need. That can warrant inactivity in account,” he told Financial Vanguard.

This is aptly illustrated by the story of Makinde Wakil, Managing Director B2SM Management Services Limited, who had to abandon his corporate bank account due to economic downturn.

He said: “I have a personal account and I also had a corporate account between 2010 and 2015. If I print my bank statement you will see inflow and outflow of funds and the e-payment transactions because we dealt with multinational companies at that time and their payments didn’t come within the country, they paid from their head office abroad.

“We worked round the clock when there was business. We paid salaries; we also had other subsidiary companies under us. The business was at its peak by that time but thereafter from mid 2015 there was no business activity happening in the company.

“As a result of that, what do we have to do? When you are in business everything goes well but when you are not, what do you do. So my corporate account has been dormant from that time till date.”

In addition to bank customers who abandoned their accounts due to job losses, is a growing number of Nigerians leaving the country for greener pastures abroad, and in the process abandon their bank accounts.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a staff of Ecobank, said: “A lot of people are leaving the country and abandoning their accounts. So it is leading to an increase in inactive accounts that banks have. Those are the people that can actually have bank accounts. You know people that are able to leave are people that earn fairly well and they can have a bank account. Once they leave they don’t access those accounts anymore.”

An example is Mr. and Mrs. Oloruntoba who have stopped operating their bank accounts since they migrated to the United States early 2018 with their two year old daughter.

The fraud factor

The case of Mrs. Sarah Adewale, who sells clothes and fashion accessories is, however, different. She abandoned her bank account not because of job loss or economic hardship, but due to fraud.

Narrating her experience to Financial Vanguard, she said: “One of the factors responsible for increase in inactive accounts is fraud. People are abandoning their bank accounts after being defrauded. Like me, I fell into the hands of fraudsters or armed robbers called ‘one-chance’ who used a Point of Sale (PoS) machine to transfer my money in my bank account to their accounts. And since then I abandoned the account because I don’t have any reason to go to the bank again. I don’t want to encounter such and since then the bank has been calling me but I don’t have their time.”

According to a branch manager with UBA, many Nigerians in Diaspora have abandoned their bank accounts due to fear of fraudsters. “We discovered that a lot of customers living abroad refused to enrol for the Biometric Verification Number (BVN) because they don’t want anybody to use their account to commit fraud. They will tell you I will come and do it when I return to the country. So the account becomes inactive.”

The BVN effect

The BVN according to bankers is another reason why some customers have abandoned their accounts. “A lot of the inactive bank accounts have BVN issues,” a top official of NIBSS confirmed to Financial Vanguard on condition of anonymity.

Confirming this in response to Financial Vanguard enquiries, GTBank said: “There is a close tie between number of accounts that are inactive and number of accounts that do not have BVN. In addition, inaccurate information supplied by customers leads to data matching issues during BVN enrolment”.

A branch manager in one of the tier-1 banks, however, said the reason some bank accounts have not been linked to BVN is because they were primarily opened and used for fraudulent activities. “The customers abandoned the accounts because they don’t want the activities in those accounts traced to them”, she said.

Banks fight back

Financial Vanguard investigations, however, discovered that most banks are not comfortable with customers abandoning their bank accounts and hence are making efforts to reduce the number of inactive bank accounts in their books.

“It is part of our performance indices”, a branch manager in a Tier-1 bank told Financial Vanguard.

“In my bank, we don’t use the six months criteria of the CBN. Rather we use three months. Once the customer does not operate the account for three months, it is classified inactive, and we begin to take measures to encourage the customer to operate the account. We are also given quarterly target or threshold for inactive bank accounts,” she said.

To check incidence of inactive bank accounts, FirstBank said it has created a team to follow up on inactive account holders. This is in addition to digitisation of account opening process and creation of convenience for on-site BVN enrolment.

Other measures introduced by the bank include: automation of access to loan facilities like salary overdraft, personal loan against salary; and creation of account opening processes at agent locations to help in reducing the incidence of inactive accounts as such agents are closer to customers.

On its part, GTBank said it actively engages inactive customers through incentivized campaigns to encourage them reactivate their accounts. “Furthermore, the bank has also commenced expanding its agent banking network so that customers in remote areas can bank without the inhibition of proximity to our regular branches,” the bank told Financial Vanguard.

CBN reacts

The CBN, however, described the rise in inactive bank accounts as a normal feature of the banking industry with profit potentials for banks.

Responding to Financial Vanguard enquiries, Director Corporate Communications, CBN, Mr. Isaac Okoroafor, said: “Incidence of abandoned accounts has always been a feature of the Nigerian banking industry for many reasons.

“A common reason is the cumbersome procedure of complete closure of an account. Many people in a hurry will withdraw to the last kobo possible and move on, abandoning the account for good.

“There’s is also death and the absence or knowledge of a bona fide heir to the estate or poor documentation for inheritance.

“In most cases, abandoned accounts carry relatively low balances compared to active ones signifying lack of interest to pursue them. The banks, however, welcome such developments because the funds represent no-cost flow and eventual profits.

FG freezes bank accounts of suspects on ‘looters list’

“The above are normal trends in the banking system. However, if the is a recent upsurge in the statistics then fear of law enforcement against money laundering cannot be ruled out especially if the sums in the accounts are heavy.”

BCAN President, Oju Ogubunka however insisted that the authorities should be worried and take measures to tackle the trend.

He said: “The industry should be worried about it. If the accounts are active, that helps monetary policy performance, because velocity of money and other factors will come into play. If people are not using their bank accounts and they are now dealing on cash and carry basis, that is lost in the economy arrangement in terms of capturing it in the system”.

Education / Re: The Power Of Knowledge by lokoso: 07:14 am On 2 Feb 2019
Genjina:
…But the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits
(Daniel 11:32b).
It is a common saying that knowledge is power. It is also said that knowledge is light. These two statements can stand the test of time as great axioms, because when one is knowledgeable he is empowered as well as enlightened. In this discourse, I would like to draw your attention to the power of knowledge as we glean from the lives of two Bible characters, namely, Isaac and Paul. However, before we do that, let us give a consideration to the declaration of Prophet Daniel in Daniel 11:32b where he states that “the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.” This was in the context of threat and likely attack from the enemies. Yet, Daniel affirms that those who KNOW their God will still be strong and carry out great exploits. This greatly underscores the power of knowledge. There are seven truths we can draw from the lives of Isaac and Paul about the power of knowledge.

Isaac was the Covenant-child of Abraham, the father of faith. In addition to the fact that he inherited his father’s wealth, Isaac also experienced great success in life. Surely, one of the virtues that empowered and eventually helped Isaac to experience success in life was Knowledge. From the account we have in Genesis 26, we see that Isaac demonstrated great KNOWLEDGE of his situation and was then able to take right steps.

Similarly, knowledge also played an important role in the life of Apostle Paul who, at the initial stage of his life was antagonistic of the Gospel. In his testimony, as recorded in Philippians 3, his attacks against the church was as a result of his ignorance or better put, his possession of evil knowledge. However, when he came to KNOW the Lord and possessed the right knowledge, everything changed for good. From Isaac and Paul’s experiences, we see the power of knowledge manifesting in the following ways:

● Knowledge Helps Us to Maintain Pace – Genesis 26:17, 22a. The truth of life is that we are on a pilgrimage, led by our Heavenly Father. We must maintain pace with God. We cannot afford to lag behind. We can only do this when we know when to move on, so as to get to the destination God plans for us. Knowledge helped Isaac to move and not get involved unnecessarily. To really maintain pace and get along with the Lord, we must follow His lead (cf. Psalm 32:8).

● Knowledge Helps Us to Save Time – Genesis 26:18-21. Isaac knew when to move. He refused to be slowed down by any controversy of any kind. Almost on daily basis we go through places like Esek (Quarrel) as well as Sitnah (Dispute) and unfortunately we waste precious time. It is not an issue that we pass through Esek and Sitnah. The issue is how long we stay there. The tragedy is that when we waste time, by implication we waste life. We need to redeem time (cf. Ephesians 5:16).

● Knowledge Helps Us to Access Opportunities – Genesis 26:22. Through his sound knowledge, Isaac was able to recognise and also gain opportunities. When he got to his Rehoboth (Spaciousness), he saw clearly that it was different from Esek and Sitnah. He knew it was his destination. He knew it was time to settle down and experience success.

● Knowledge Helps Us To Develop Right Behaviour – Philippians 3:1-5. Before coming to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, Paul could not behave in a way that respect others. He was proud and he looked down on others. He saw himself as better than others. But this changed later when he came to know the Lord. Eliab, David’s brother and the other sons of prophets (cf. 1 Samuel 17:28; 2 Kings 2:1ff) further show to us that our behaviour can only be right when our knowledge is right.

● Knowledge Helps Us to Take Right Action – Philippians 3:6. Again, Paul was so weak that he could not take the right action. He spent all his energy persecuting the Church. This changed only when he came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Rahab’s action in hiding the spies and King David’s offerings to God testified to the fact that actions are usually influenced by knowledge (cf. Joshua 2:9; 1 Chronicles 29:17).

● Knowledge Helps Us To Foster Good Relationship – Philippians 3:6-7. Paul was totally unable to relate well with the people of God until he came to know the Lord. This truth is well illustrated by the Samaritan Woman who grew in her knowledge of Jesus Christ and moved from addressing Him, “a Jew” to “Sir” then to “Prophet” and finally to “Messiah” (see John 4:7ff.)

● Knowledge Helps Us To Grow In Our Faith – Philippians 3:8-11. Paul’s focus shifted to God from self and all personal accomplishments following his knowledge of Jesus Christ. Really, what we know about God from the Scriptures will determine our expression of faith in Him. This is well illustrated by the confessions of Job and Solomon in Job 19:25-27 and Ecclesiastes 3:14, respectively.

Your knowledge determines your action. No one lives beyond his/her knowledge. Apostle Paul fully realised this, and expressed his desire to know Jesus Christ and the power of His resurrection. His desire was granted and his actions were directed aright. You can also have a similar experience by seeking God through Jesus Christ, and you would be blessed with godly knowledge.

Why?

The Poor are mainly Consumers and the Rich are mainly Investors.

Show me a POOR Man and I'll show you a Man who

P - Passes
O - Over
O - Opportunities
R - Repeatedly.

A Man who sees Challenges in Every Opportunity instead of seeing Opportunity in every Challenges.

Being a MAN is not a Title, it's a Responsibility.
It means you have to Answer Financially in the

You must take Great Risks to receive Greater Rewards.

You must plan and strategize
You must value Profit not Wages
You must be Focused and
You must be Determined if you want Good Success.

6)Tell them it is a New Business Model, they will say "I don't do network marketing and how many years has this business model been existing?".

World Politics / Re: Transfer: Suarez Arrives London To Complete Arsenal Move by lokoso: 07:10 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Preshemeka600:Barcelona midfielder, Denis Suarez, has arrived in London on Wednesday, to complete his move to Arsenal.

The Gunners reached a major breakthrough in their negotiations with Barcelona on Tuesday, as Suarez agreed to extend his contract with the Spanish champions.

Suarez has renewed his contract with the club until 2021 and will now be allowed to sign for Arsenal on loan this January, Marca reports.

There will be an option to make the deal permanent in the summer for €25m.

The Gunners have been exploring the possibility of signing the 25-year-old on loan during the January window, as they are unable to spend money on big transfer fees.

Arsenal offered a €2million (£1.7m) loan fee, but could not agree on the inclusion of a clause, which would require them to permanently sign the midfielder at the end of the season.

Barca looked to get around Arsenal’s refusal to agree on a compulsory right to buy clause by allowing Suarez to leave on loan, but on the condition that he signed a new contract.

Michael O. Dedon Thanks for unearthing this gem.

Prince [Prof.] Ifagbemi Awamaridi, Esq. wrote:*_
*Onnoghen: Clarifying the facts in Issue*
Juxtaposing Salami's (President of the Appeal court) case to that of the CJN is a fallacy of interpolation.
...Unrelated cases, different class of people, different constitutional protection, different powers, and different procedures for removal.
We should know the position of law at every stage of the issue. ....How one leads to the other.
Try to Read the CCB act.
If you don't declare all your assets while filling the forms, CCB is mandated to write you about the omission/s which you are to respond to, giving reasons for the omitted assets. If you accept that the omitted assets are yours and include them in the form, you are free from any prosecutions by CCT.
But if those assets are denied and are proven to be yours, and have been corruptly acquired then you have a case to answer at the CCT.
In this case Onnoghen received letter from CCB and did the needful by writing CCB back that he owned the stipulated assets and joined them on his declaration form.
Buhari took that up for prosecution at CCT but knowing fully well that it's a case in futility
Buhari chose to propagandize with media prosecution to campaign that the CJN should resign. Buhari wants the country to see CJN as corrupt while he executed the coup against the judiciary.
CCT is under the control of the executive arm of government, while its chairman is facing corrupt charges, but the president didn't suspend him.
CCT heard the case, but the jurisdiction of CCT was challenged. Umar danladi, the Judge, adjourned the hearing from 21st January to the 28th January and later *"gifted" an order on a motion that wasn't presented before him or heard from any counsel* .
That's injury to justice!
The order wasn't served on the CJN yet, nor was he allowed to respond to it.... either to step down or challenge it in court.
But Buhari hastily pronounced the suspension of the CJN and swore in an acting CJN.
This is alien to the law.
The CJN is the Head of the Judiciary and can't be suspended or removed by the President under any guise without due process.
If a criminal allegation is made against the President will he just resign? ...Without defence?
The CJN has not admitted he did anything wrong as being claimed by Buhari, regarding his response to CCB.
Can the Senate President be unilaterally suspended by the President?
The Principle of Separation of Powers is very clear and unambiguous on the Powers of the 3 arms of Government, viz, Executive, Judiciary & Legislature.
It seems *"Buhari is dancing naked at the market square, and instead of his handlers to call the Psychiatrist, they are intensifying the music".*

admin:Spanish border guards have discovered two migrants hidden inside mattresses strapped to the roof of a car at a checkpoint on the frontier with Morocco, a video footage has shown.

The footage, published on social media by a senator in the Spanish parliament, is reported to have been filmed in Melilla, an enclave of Spain on the north African coast.

Morocco has become a major gateway into Europe for African migrants.

The latest incident, filmed on Sunday, apparently documented the first time there had been an attempt to smuggle people inside a mattress, according to local media.

Footage was posted on Twitter by Jon Inarritu, a senator from the Basque separatist party EH Bildu.

He tweeted that without a lack of safe ways to seek asylum, incidents such as these would continue to occur on Europe's southern border.

The video, apparently shot by someone involved in the search operation, showed two men in Guardia Civil uniform lifting two hollowed-out mattresses off the roof of a vehicle and cutting them open to reveal two males inside.

The driver of the vehicle fled to Morocco before being arrested by authorities.

The two migrants were said to be in good health conditions and did not require medical assistance.

More than 6,000 migrants have made it to Melilla and Spain's nearby Ceuta enclave this year, according to the UN refugee agency UNHCR.

In October, one African migrant died and three others were injured when around 300 stormed the border fence separating Melilla from Morocco.

Truevine:At least 43 migrants have drowned after two
boats capsized off the coast of Djibouti, the
International Organisation for Migration (IOM)
said on Wednesday.
The UN organisation had previously counted only
28 recovered bodies.
“We are expecting the death toll to be much
higher than that,” IOM spokesman, Joel Millman,
said.
More than 130 migrants were on the boats when
they overturned on Tuesday off Godoria, in the
north-east of the small Horn of Africa nation,
according to the IOM.
Millman said the two boats that set off from the
port of Obock were probably carrying mostly
Ethiopians and were likely headed to Yemen.
Djibouti has become a major migration route, and
thousands of irregular migrants use it as both a
country of destination and transit on their journey
to the Arabian Peninsula, according to the IOM.
More than 700 migrants have died in the past five
years during boat journeys from the Horn of
African to Yemen, according to the UN
organisation

Truevine:The Presidential Candidate of the People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar
Wednesday promised to establish Electoral Fraud
Commission to try anyone found infringing on
electoral laws.
Atiku said the present government lacks political
will to punish offenders.
He and his running mate Peter Obi spoke on The
Candidates programme aired live on the Nigerian
Television Authority (NTA) in Abuja.
According to him, he (Atiku) and Obi have what it
takes to end poverty in the country.
He said he has been able to lift 45,000 persons
out of poverty in his home state of Adamawa.
“A few years ago, I set up a microfinance bank
and I brought in someone from Bangladesh and
you know they are the best in the world in that
area. I told him I wanted to lift people out of
poverty and I want you to dedicate 80 per cent of
your loans to women. You know how many
persons I was able to lift out of poverty? 45,000,”
he said.
The former Vice President said Nigeria needed a
pro-business and private sector driven leadership
to create jobs for its 21 million unemployed
youths. According to him, one of our major plans is to
create jobs in the agriculture sector which has the
largest capacity for job creation in the country.
On corruption allegations against him, Atiku said
he is the most investigated public officer in the
country who had never been found wanting.
He lamented the dearth of middle class in the
country, blaming President Muhammadu Buhari’s
administration for the collapsed of the middle
class.
On Boko Haram, he said the set back by the
military was as a result of lack of equipment and
welfare.
If elected into office, he promised to investigate
military hierarchy indicted in short-changing the
soldiers.
On Shiites/military clashes, Atiku said military has
nothing to do with the Shiites.
According to him, police should have been
allowed to deal with them.
On farmers/herders’ clash, he said both of them
need to be enlightened on the existing laws.
He lamented the collapse of nomadic education,
promises to revive it.
This, according to him, will minimise the
movement of nomads and allow them to
concentrate in a particular area.
Atiku refuted fraud allegation his wife, saying his
wife had never been indicted or accused of such
offence.
“My wife has not been indicted and she has not
been charged, so there is no way you can hold
her accountable, she has been traveling to
America very often,“ he said.

A father has been arrested after he allegedly beat a man to death, believing the man had raped his 7-year-old daughter in Port Elizabeth, S. Africa.

Police spokesperson Captain André Beetge said the 36-year-old father was arrested on Tuesday for the murder of the 52-year-old man that was suspected of raping the child.

Beetge said it was alleged that on Saturday at about 10:50pm, the victim, Mava Fundakubi, 52, was severely assaulted in De Vos Crescent, Shukushukuma, after it was suspected by community members that he had raped the little girl.

While the girl and her mother were at the Motherwell Health Centre, Fundakubi was taken into the street and fatally assaulted by a large group of people.

Beetge said investigators established that the child had not been raped and a search for the killers of Fundakubi ensued. The father of the girl handed himself over to police on Tuesday. .

He alleges that he went to Fundakubi’s house and assaulted him in the street after other people joined him. The father was arrested and will face a charge of murder. Police are still searching for his accomplices.

World Politics / Re: Fear Grips Families Of 7 Kidnapped Victims And Abductors Demand N60m Ransom by lokoso: 12:16 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Preshemeka600:Palpable fear has gripped the families of the seven persons kidnapped by notorious abductors at a cinema centre in Birinin Magaji town in Birinin Magaji local government area of Zamfara state as they are now demanding a ransom of N60 million.

Speaking with DAILY POST this morning in Gusau, the state capital, a close relative of one of the affected victims who declined to disclose his name due to security reasons said the kidnappers numbering over twenty stormed the cinema centre at about 9.30pm on Saturday, pretending to be guards of the viewing centre and later abducted the people.

“At exactly 9.30pm when the viewers were walking out from the viewing centre after a football match, leaving only the operators – Sanusi Sani, his brother, Zubairu Sani Kaura and Bala Dankasa, the abductors attacked them and kidnapped them and took them to an unknown destination.”

According to him, the abductors on their way to Kuya village, few kilometres to Birinin Magaji town, met other four persons whom he said they also kidnapped to make them seven.

He gave the four kidnapped persons as Yusuf shekau, Shasu DanIsiya , Bello Kwaso and Nura Mohammad.

” As I’m talking to you now, the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N60 million if we want to secure their release. We cannot even boast of N100 let alone N60 million. I am appealing to the federal and state governments to come to our aid and deploy more troops to the area so as to rescue the people as we can’t raise the money,” he pledged.

When contacted, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Mohammad Shehu confirmed the incident, saying that the PMF, CTU, FSARS combined teams and conventional police personnel have been deployed to comb the whole areas to rescue the kidnapped persons and fish out the perpetrators and restore normalcy.

Romance / Re: Meaning Of "boo" In A Relationships by lokoso: 10:28 am On 1 Jan 2019
Glory2019:According to the multiple slang
dictionaries, boo is an affectionate term
for referring to your significant other.
Mostly, people call their boyfriends and
girlfriends boo, especially on social
media. However, sometimes this term
can also be used for expressing
endearment towards your family
members and close friends.
Where did the word “boo” come from?
This term is supposedly derived from
the word beau, which means beautiful
in French. The word had a common use
back in the 18th century in England,
when it meant a male admirer. Later,
when the French colonization of the
Caribbean islands happened, the word
made its way into the Afro-Caribbean
language. Recently, the slang word boo
gained its popularity in Africa,
including Nigeria.
Sometimes, people can use this word for
defining the relationship which is not
official. For example, you go on dates
and do romantic stuff with some boy or
girl, but you are not officially dating,
and instead of calling them boyfriend or
girlfriend, the slang term boo can be
used.
While the word is mostly used for the
romantic relationships, the use of it
between friends or family members can
be possible in the same way you use the
word “honey” or “hun” with them. It
depends on how well you know the
friend, and what kind of relationship
you have. Mainly, people use it when
they want either to tease their friends
or come up with a pet name for them.
The word “boo” is not used in a plural
form, so you can not say that you have a
lot of boos. Originally, the term is
supposed to be used only for one
person, to indicate how special this
person is for you, that is why it is mostly
used to refer to the closest people.
The most popular slang synonym for the
word "boo" is "bae", which basically
means the same thing. "Bae" is a term
which we use to refer to the most
important person in our life, no matter
if it is your significant other, crush,
lover, or even best friend sometimes. It
stands for before anyone else and is
widely used in popular culture. The
slight difference is that the word "boo"
is used in real life more often, while
"bae" is more of a social media term.
Some people find the words like "boo"
and "bae" annoying, questioning why
people are unable to say just boyfriend,
girlfriend, or friend instead. However,
many people, especially young ones, like
using it, especially when they caption
their photos on social media like
Instagram. You can often stumble upon
young people being like “hanging out
with boo” or “just had the best date with
bae” under their new photos.
Basically, boo means the same thing as
bae or babe, it is an affectionate word
for describing someone you love and
care about, mostly spread on social
media platforms by teens and young
adults.

Good advice

Romance / Re: The 5 Most Deadly (and Common) Mistakes That Destroy Relationships by lokoso: 10:26 am On 1 Jan 2019
Glory2019:QUICK! Name your top 5 role models for
relationships!
What’s that? You couldn’t name any?
Or they weren’t role models at all – they
were people that screwed up their love
lives all the time, like Liz Lemon?
Or you just yelled out random names
and hoped I wouldn’t notice?
Well, I didn’t notice. Because you’re
yelling in whatever room you’re reading
this article in, and I can’t hear you
through my computer. Because that’s not
how the internet works.
HOWEVER.
My point still stands. There are no really
good role models today to follow for
advice on relationships. Most of the time,
people are flying blind, with disastrous
results. I’ve seen these 5 mistakes made in
relationships more than any others. I’ve
seen them bring strong relationships
crumbling to the ground.
And I don’t want that for you.
So here are my top 5 super-common
mistakes that destroy relationships:
1. Giving Up on Trying
to Repair Broken Trust
This is a big one. There are a ton of
people out there who believe that once
someone’s trust has been betrayed, that’s
it, the relationship is over.
And I don’t blame people for that belief.
A lot of the time, someone who lied is
going to lie again, and reinforce the idea
that trust can’t be repaired.
However, I can GUARANTEE that you
personally know a couple that lost the
trust between them and rebuilt it – even
if you never found out about it. Want to
know why?
Because they realized that as long as
both people put in the hard work (and
yes, it is hard work) of rebuilding trust
in a relationship, they can make the
relationship stronger than it ever was.
They can make the relationship so strong
that no one would ever know someone’s
trust was betrayed.
So if you think there’s any chance at
salvaging a relationship and repairing
trust – it’s worth a shot. No relationship
is doomed just because of one breach.
2. Keeping A Secret
On the other side of the trust coin comes
willfully concealing from your partner.
Trust me (ha) when I say this: repairing
the trust in a relationship is HARD work.
It’s so hard that you should go to great
lengths to avoid having to do it.
What does that mean? Well, for starters,
and obviously, it means not lying to each
other.
But it also means not keeping secrets
from each other.
Too often, I’ve heard the justification
that “Well, I didn’t tell him, but I didn’t
lie either…”
That’s bullcrap.
Keeping a secret from the person you’re
in a relationship with is tantamount to
lying. Sooner or later, the truth will out,
and they’ll feel just as betrayed as they
would if you had lied about it.
So don’t keep secrets, and your
relationship will stay strong.
3. Putting The Burden
of Your Happiness onto
Your Partner
I found the perfect man for me! I found
the one! I’ll be happy forever now!
All I have to do is bask in the glory of
being with him and leave my happiness
for the rest of my life up to him!
Bad. Wrong. Wrongbad. I’m inventing a
word, it’s called wrongbad, and you’re
the first to read it. Congratulations.
Anyway, I see this mistake often, and it
KILLS relationships.
Believe me when I say this: the only
person responsible for your happiness is
YOU. You, and no one else.
Not even if he’s the one, the most perfect
man in existence, the only man you
could ever love. Even THEN, you’re the
only one who’s in charge of your
happiness.
When you put someone else in charge of
your happiness, it destroys your ability
to feel happy without them, and it also
destroys your relationship, as he
crumbles under the weight of trying to
keep you happy.
Don’t make this mistake. Take charge of
your own happiness in your relationship
and just enjoy spending time with each
other. That’s how you keep a
relationship strong.
Take this quiz and find out Is He Selfish ?
4. Not Setting Aside
Time For The
Relationship
“Well, we tried to hang out Tuesday
night, but he got caught up at work and
then I had to get on the phone with my
best friend for an hour and then we
could not get in touch with each other.
Same thing happened last Friday. We’re
going to try to hang out next week.”
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD. WRONGBAD.
The saying “absence makes the heart
grow fonder” is a true one, but only in
moderation, and only if you’ve been
spending TOO much time with each
other.
If you’re struggling to find time to
spend with each other, it’s going to take
its toll on your relationship. What was
once a close, intimate relationship can
turn distant and chilly very quickly if
you don’t have enough quality time
together.
And yes, I know, the demands of a
modern life are very stressful. Kids,
work, stress, everything can leak into
your schedule until it feels like there’s no
time left.
Make time. Carve out whatever you need
at LEAST once a week with your partner,
or your relationship will wither on the
vine.
5. Thinking That
Everything Should Be
Easy
I know, I know. It’s not fair. When you
find the right person, the one, the person
you love more than anything and are
meant to be with always, you should be
able to just relax! Let go! Enjoy the time
you have with them and not have to
worry about anything!
But life doesn’t work like that.
Relationships take work. It’s not a
popular sentiment, but it’s a true one. If
you’re not putting in the work to keeping
your relationship fresh and vital, then
it’s going to start to crumble all around
you.
And there’s no more insidious obstacle
in the way than believing that
relationships should just be easy.
So don’t be tricked and fooled into
thinking that everything should be easy
just because you found the man you love.
Understand and accept that your
relationship is still going to take work
and act accordingly. And then watch as
your relationship gets stronger and
stronger everyday.
Now that you know the most common
mistakes that destroy relationships, do
you know how to keep him for good?
Before you decide what you’re going to
do next, you need to know about the
pivotal moment in any relationship that
determines if you get to live happily ever
after or he leaves you so pay attention to
this next step because it’s vitally
important: At some point he starts to
lose interest. He doesn’t call you back or
he becomes emotionally closed off. He
seems like he’s losing interest or pulling
away – do you know what to do? If not
you’re putting your relationship and the
future of your love life in great danger,
read this now or risk losing him forever:
If He’s Pulling Away, Do This…
The second problem will undermine
whatever relationship you have if it’s
allowed to fester and destroy your
relationship from the inside, so read this
right now or risk your relationship
because at some point he will ask himself
is this the woman I should commit to for
the long term? The answer to that will
determine the fate of your relationship:
Do you know how men determine if a
woman is girlfriend material (the type of
woman he commits himself to) or if he
see’s you as just a fling? If not you need
to read this next: The #1 Thing Men Desire
In A Women.
In summary…
The Biggest Mistakes
That Destroy
Relationships
. Giving up on trying to repair broken
trust
. Keeping a secret
. Putting the burden of your happiness
onto your partner
. Not setting aside time for the
relationship
. Thinking that everything should be easy
