Footballers are known for their flamboyant and extravagant lifestyle and always don’t hesitate to enjoy the little time when it comesby considering their tight schedules. When it comes to alcohol consumption which is seen as a major mode of ‘socialization’ footballers are big consumers but there are some that have said NO to the trend.

Alcohol consumption is a major trend in this present society and it is one of the major substance that brings friends together for socialization purposes. It is invariably abnormal to have an event without alcoholic beverages for consumption.

This trend is not unfamiliar with footballers but these few have boldly come out to denounce the consumption of alcohol.

The Real Madrid once said: “I just don’t like drink, to be honest. it’s not the fact that I choose not to drink Alcohol. I just don’t like the taste of it. I ‘ve obviously tasted it, but I just don’t like it so it doesn’t do anything for me to be honest. In a way, it probably helps me though.”

02. Javier Hernandez


Javier’s grandfather, Tomas Balcazar once said that “Javier has his diet, he doesn’t eat just anything. He never drinks even a drop of alcohol. He doesn’t stay up late for any reason.” What a virtuous grandson, I must confess.

03. Djibril Cisse


The retired footballer turned DJ doesn’t drink alcohol too. That’s incredible right?

04. Frank Ribery


Ribery converted to Muslim in 2006 after getting married to a Muslim woman of Morrocan origin. And he once told his Bayern Munchen teammates to keep the alcohol, which is forbidden by his religion.

05. Darren Fletcher


The Scottish footballer who plays as a central midfielder for English club Stoke City and the Scotland national team is another lucky footballer to part the company with the beer.

06. Cristiano Ronaldo


This great footballer does not drink alcohol at all because his father died after years of alcohol abuse.


Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born in São Pedro, Funchal, on the island of Madeira, Portugal, and grew up in Santo António, Funchal. He is the fourth and youngest child of Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro (b. 1954), a cook, and José Dinis Aveiro (1953–2005), a municipal gardener and a part-time kit man. His second given name, “Ronaldo”, was chosen after then-U.S. president Ronald Reagan. His great-grandmother on his father’s side, Isabel da Piedade, was from the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde. He has one older brother, Hugo (b. 1975), and two older sisters, Elma (b. 1973) and Liliana Cátia “Katia” (b. 1977), who is a singer. Ronaldo grew up in a Catholic and impoverished home, sharing a room with all his siblings.

07. Harry Kane


“If I need to relax, I take my dogs out for a walk or I play round of golf. I can’t remember the last time I went to a club. Obviously, everyone is different but I love just settling down and having a barbecue with friends at my house,” said Kane.

Harry Edward Kane was born in Walthamstow, London to Kim and Patrick Kane and has one older brother, Charlie. He has Irish ancestry through his father who is from Galway. The family moved to Chingford where he attended Larkswood Primary Academy until 2004, followed by Chingford Foundation School (also attended by David Beckham). He played football from a young age, joining a local club, Ridgeway Rovers, when he was six in 1999. Kane talked about footballing in the family:


“ I think the sporting genes come from my Mum’s side of the family although the topic is a hot debate in the Kane household. Dad probably won’t like me saying that, but I think my granddad Eric on my Mum’s side was quite a good footballer, and played at a decent level. ” Kane also said: “Most of my family were Spurs fans and I grew up 15 minutes from the ground, so I was always going to be a Spurs fan”.

He named former Spurs striker Teddy Sheringham his childhood idol, and saw him as a “great finisher” and a role model in his ability to get in the box and score goals. Other childhood sporting influences he cited include David Beckham and Jermain Defoe. Kane has also spoken of his admiration for the former Brazil forward Ronaldo, adding that he loved to watch footage of him on YouTube: “He was one of the first ones I looked at and thought, ‘Wow. He’s a goalscorer, I want to be a goalscorer.'”
