The Igbo Improvement Union (IIU) has cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against rigging the elections. In a communiqué issued after its meeting signed by its President General, Ugochukwu Agballah, the group urged Ndigbo to disregard any call by any group to boycott the elections.
It said the socio-economic and political wellbeing of the people would be jeopardized should they fail to participate in the exercise. At the meeting presided over by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and attended by Jim Nwobodo, Okwesilieze Nwodo, A.B.C. Nwosu, Dubem Onyia, Fidelia Njeze; Ralph Obioha, Onwuka Ukwa, Hyde Onuaguluchi, Professor Lawrence Agubuzo and Ken Emechebe, among others, they stated that Obi’s choice was a blessing to the Igbo nation and should be supported by all.
Also, the Anambra State chapter of Atiku/Obi Campaign Organisation has cautioned against plans to shift the February 16 Presidential and National Assembly polls under any pretense. Director of the organisation, Dr. Harry Oranezi, stated this yesterday at a media briefing in Awka, saying postponing the exercise would do the nation no good, especially in the eyes of the international community.
Oranezi said the PDP was still surprised at the mysterious fire that gutted sensitive election materials like smart card readers less than a week to the crucial elections. He also raised the alarm over attacks on PDP candidates and stalwarts in Anambra due to what he described as their increasing acceptance.
Meanwhile, the Delta State chapter of the party has again, raised the alarm over alleged plans by All Progressives Congress (APC) and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to award victory to the APC candidate for Isoko Federal Constituency during the election. Its Publicity Secretary in the state, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza said, “We received impeccable information of a directive from APC’s leadership to INEC to do everything possible to ensure that APC candidate for Isoko Federal Constituency wins the election at all cost,†he said.
