A group under the aegis of Coalition of Ethnic Youth Nationalities in Plateau North, has called the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to immediately declare the election results for Plateau North Senatorial District and the House of Representatives seat for Jos North/Bassa constituency.
The group called on the electoral umpire to do the needful by preventing Plateau from going back to a state of unrest.
The coalition, through its spokesman, Barr. John Chris Yaro, made the call while addressing journalists in Jos, the Plateau state capital.
“It has become imperative that we address you at this time of the day that we all are suppose to be resting in our homes, because of the situation we found ourselves.
“We have found ourselves in this type of situation in the past; where elections were conducted, results collated, yet not declared.
“As youth leaders in Plateau North, we are calling upon the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), especially the Collation Officers to declared the results for Plateau North Senatorial District and Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency as it has been collated .
“It has never been heard anywhere; results are collated from the polling unit, and then Collation Officer will not declared results and announce winners,†he said.
According to Yaro, elections in the state were conducted peacefully, but wondered why their votes would not count.
“So we are calling upon INEC to do the needful by declaring the winners for the Plateau Senatorial seat and the House of Representatives seat for Jos North/Bassa Constituency
“We don’t want to go back to the days of violence on the Plateau, this state has been relatively peaceful, most especially at this moment.
“Because the results have not been declared, we have every reason to suspect fowl play, because results are normally declared at the Collation Centres.â€
He added that there are designated collation centres for Jos North/Bassa constituency and Plateau North Senatorial District, stressing that those are the places where results are supposed to be declared.
It would be recalled that the electoral umpire had cancelled over 31, 000 thousand votes at a PDP stronghold in Jos North LGA, of the state.
As a result of the aforementioned, it was gathered that collation officers for the National Assembly were asked to also cancel their votes.
