World Politics / Don’t Vote Any Pdp Candidate – Buhari Warns Nigerians by Cletzjohn(m): 04:58 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Buhari has told supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state not to choose any candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party during the general elections.

The President stated this on Wednesday at the Presidential campaign of the APC which held in Lokoja. He said, “I am warning you don’t make the mistake of choosing any PDP candidate”.

President Buhari noted that there had been a lot of progress since his administration came into power in 2015. The President laid emphasis on the oil sector saying, “I have challenged anybody in Nigeria to check in Europe, America and Asia that Nigeria was producing 2.1million barrels per day at the cost of $100 per barrel.

“Nigeria was earning 2.1million x$100 per barrel x 15 years, where was the money?” He criticised the opposition party (PDP) for not doing enough in the area power and railway.

According to President Buhari, “They said they spent $16bn on power. Where is the power? “What they will try to do is to cover the theft they have committed against the nation.

“I assure you I will follow the system, anybody that is held responsible we will get him, take away the money and put in the treasury”, the President added.

In attendance at the event were National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole, State Governor Yahaya Bello, among other party members.

Crime / I Made My First Statement Under Duress, Evans Tells Court by Cletzjohn(m): 04:54 pm On 1 Jan 2019
An alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a Evans has denied his confessional statement after his arrest in 2017, saying it was made under duress.

Evans told Justice Adedayo Akintoye of Igbosere High Court, Lagos on Wednesday that he signed the statement to save him from being tortured to death.

Evans is currently facing charges, bordering on conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping and attempted murder before Justice Akintoye.

In the first charge, Evans is standing trial alongside Joseph Emeka, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu and Victor Aduba.

In the second charge, he is standing trial alongside Joseph Emeka, Linus Okpara and Victor Aduba.

At the resumed hearing, Evans gave details of how members of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team allegedly tortured and killed several others who were paraded alongside him in his presence.

He said that the security agents tortured the victims by suffocating them with plastic bags and threatened to do same to him if he failed to cooperate with them.

Evans said that some sheets of papers were brought for him to sign, adding that some of the papers were blank while others had things written on them.

“When I asked what I was to sign the police officers slapped me and even quenched a cigarette on my hand.

“The officers were beating me and told me that if anything happens to me, no one will know. They hit my head and blood was gushing, the scars are still on my head.

“When I saw how five men, who were paraded with me, were tortured and killed, I agreed to sign the papers with fear of what happened to the other men,” Evans said.

He also said that the contents of the papers he signed were not read to him and that there was no video recording during the statement taking.

Evans gave the details while a trial within a trial was conducted to ascertain whether his statement was taken under duress or not.

He was led in evidence by his counsel, Mr O. I. Ajanuku.

However, Evans was cross-examined by the Lagos State counsel, Mr. Jide Martins, to prove that Evans statement was not taken under duress.

Earlier, the prosecution had told the court that the business of the day in the first charge was the adoption of the final written address in respect of the trial within trial done in that case.

The Lagos State counsel, however, said that they have not been served with the address of the defense.

Ajanuku, however, assured the prosecution that they would be served by close of work on Thursday.

Justice Akintoye, after listening to the evidence, adjourned the case until Jan. 30 for the continuation of hearing.

World Politics / ‘nnpc Is A Mafia Organisation, I Will Privatise It Even If They’ll Kill Me’ – At by Cletzjohn(m): 11:17 pm On 1 Jan 2019

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as a “mafia organization”, vowing to privatize it if elected.
Speaking in Lagos during an interactive session with the business community on Wednesday, Atiku said he would take the step even if doing so would cost him his life.

He explained that he sold the idea to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo whom he deputized between 1999 and 2007 but that the former president did not approve of it.

Atiku said he is convinced that NNPC would run better if not managed by the government.

“Let me go back to my experience. When we got into office, I walked up to my boss and said “Sir, there are two mafia organizations in government: one is the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) while the other one is the National Electricity Power Authority (NEPA),” he said.

“I said unless we dismantle these mafia organizations, we cannot make progress. Let’s privatize them… the long and short of this is that I am committed to privatization as I have said. I swear even if they are going to kill me, I will do it (privatize NNPC).”

Atiku also spoke on how an expert in the petroleum sector influenced his stance on privatization of NNPC.

“I asked a Nigerian professor based in America; I said ‘Prof, do you have ministry of petroleum in America?’ He said no,” he said.

“I said, ‘Do you have an organisation like NNPC over there?’ He said no. And America produces oil more than any country? He said yes.

“So I asked him, ‘How do they do it in America?’ and he said taxation and I decided that I will go by taxation too.”
Joined by Peter Obi, his running mate, Atiku fielded questions that ranged from the economy to security, health and unemployment.”

He also criticised the current administration for the delay in passing the petroleum industry governance bill (PIGB).

Atiku, who said the level of unemployment in the country is worrying, narrated his encounter with idle youth during his campaign rallies.

He said if left unchecked the lack of adequate jobs could create a bigger problem.

World Politics / What Buhari Will Do To Osinbajo If Re-elected In 2019 – Omokri Warns Vp by Cletzjohn(m): 11:13 pm On 1 Jan 2019
A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s plans for Vice president, Yemi Osinbajo if re-elected in 2019.

Omokri disclosed that Buhari will treat Osinbajo just as ex-Military Head of State, Sani Abacha treated Diya.

Recall that Diya and his cohorts were tried in a military tribunal, and given the death penalty after a failed attempt to overthrown Sani Abacha.

Omokri made the claim while making reference to President Buhari’s order to Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen to immediately vacate his office.

Omokri wrote: “With what is happening to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, let me warn VP Prof Osinbajo that what Abacha did to Diya may be what Buhari does to him if he is re-elected.

“He only needs you for his re-election campaign. Afterward, you are dispensable.”

Don’t Allow PDP To Damage Our democracy, Presidency Tells Nigerians

The Presidency on Tuesday raised alarm on what it described as attempts by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, “to bring down the roof on everyone’’ for selfish political reason.

Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, in a statement in Abuja, noted that the PDP had embarked on activities capable of disrupting the nation’s democratic system.

He condemned the ongoing attacks by the opposition on President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government.

The statement read: “We read the various statements issued in the press by the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with the latest personalizing their attacks on President Muhammadu Buhari.

“This attack is uncalled on the administration that crosses the line in a democracy. A call for disobedience to government is a call to anarchy and should not be called opposition politics.

“Seeing people go down as the PDP and its leaders are heading to in the elections is pitiful but to seek to bring down the roof on everyone is tragic, selfish and the height of desperation.

“Happily, these acts do not reflect the true feeling of citizens across the whole nation, and that is why the PDP is sinking deeper and deeper into the oblivion.

“They are losing memberships in droves and their campaign is just a caricature of a proper campaign.

“It is high time Nigerians separated the chaff floating around in the air in the name of opposition from the crude and disgraceful invective being thrown personally at President Muhammadu Buhari.
The problem of the opposition is that they are not talking about solutions. Rather, each of them, led in the pack by the PDP is an expert at counting problems. That is the reason why the voting population is coming around the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC.

“For years, the PDP had been a bastion of corruption and impunity and it is difficult for them to change from their rentier way of life in the nation’s affairs. But CHANGE has come, and has come to stay, Mr Shehu said.

“The National chairman had no powers to arbitrarily dissolve a dully elected APC executives in Imo state and so appoint a purported caretaker committee.”

Nwafor also informed that the APC in the state under his leadership had suspended the “purported” caretaker committee chairman,Marcellinus Nlemigbo and the members of his committee.

He said that Nlemigbo, had engaged in anti party activities and had not attended APC meeting in his Ezinihitte ward in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area in the last one year.

Describing the caretaker committee chairman and his members as impostors, Nwafor said that he would not be distracted.

He said that the suspension was indefinite.

Nwafor said that despite the crisis in the party,APC would carry the day in the state.

According to him,the caretaker committee had no powers to summon the state governor ,Rochas Okorocha and five others to appear before a “purported disciplinary committee.

He said that he remained the only person in the state who had the powers to set up a disciplinary committee and to ask anyone to appear before it.

Do You Believe This?? Buhari Wasn’t Aware Of Onnoghen’s Trial Until Saturday – Osinbajo

President Muhammadu Buhari only got to know about the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Saturday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has stated.

He also expressed sadness over the trial of the National President of Nigerian Bar Association, Paul Usoro (SAN).

It was reported that while the CJ had been scheduled to face trial at the CCT over the non-declaration of assets, Usoro is standing trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on account of payments received from Akwa Ibom governor for job done.

The Federal Government has, meanwhile, ordered the discontinuation of Onnoghen’s arraignment.

While absolving Buhari of pre-arranging the trial of Onnoghen for non declaration of assets, Osinbajo said Buhari never had any fact of financial misdemeanor involving the CJN until Saturday evening.

He expressed regrets that the CJN had to go through the process. He, however, said Buhari had issued specific instructions that anti-graft institutions should be allowed to do their jobs without any interference.

The Vice President made these clarifications in Abuja on Wednesday during a one-day conference organised by Online Publishers Association of Nigeria, with the theme: “Free Press and objective reporting in the 2019 election year.”

He Said;

“I must tell you in clear terms that, for President Muhammadu Buhari, his whole approach is that institutions should just do their work.
“I can tell you for a fact that he did not even know about this (CJN trial) until Saturday evening. I don’t feel good about it that senior members of my profession are being tried.

“He did not even know that there was going to be any kind of trial until Saturday evening.

“He had said categorically, ‘Don’t interfere with whatever institutions are doing.’

Sometimes, it has consequences such as we have today, such that people say, ‘How can such an important person be subjected to trial without the Federal Government?’

“But I can tell you without any equivocation that he (Buhari) was not aware.”
