Education / Girl Repeats Class For The 4th Time, Accuses Teachers Of Punishing Her For Getting Pregnant. by Jamslek(m): 03:09 pm On 1 Jan 2019
A girl who is set to repeat the same class for the fourth time has accused her teachers of punishing her for getting pregnant.
The 20-year-old student identified as Mbali Bulose from Newtown C in Inanda, north of Durban, South Africa, should be doing grade 10 for the fourth time but has been sitting at home.
She wants the South African Education Department to intervene. She claimed she was being treated unfairly. “I failed in 2016 because I didn’t do well. I realised I needed to work harder, but in early 2017 I was pregnant,” she said.
After giving birth, she returned to school and wrote her tests.
“The teachers told me I was a bad influence on others. “I submitted all my assignments on time and wrote all my tests but failed at the end of the year. The teachers said they failed me on purpose.”
She said she went back to grade 10 for the third time last year.
“I studied extra hard but they failed me again. “I went back to school this year and a teacher told me to go to grade 11 because I can’t repeat the same grade four times,” she said.
But Mbali claimed when she went to the grade 11 class, a teacher fetched her and took her back to the grade 10 class.
Education spokesman Kwazi Mthethwa said no complaint has been lodged with them yet and urged Mbali to call the circuit office.
“If these allegations are true, we will deal with the teacher and the principal,” Mthethwa said.

World Politics / What Will You Gain By ‘cutting 3k From 30k’ – Shehu Sani On New Minimun Wage by Jamslek(m): 02:59 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The National Council of State has decided that the national minimum wage for states and the private sector should be N27,000, and agreed also that N30,000 should be minimum wage for federal workers.
This decision was reached in the National Council of state meeting, which held at the State house on Tuesday, and was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige informed state house correspondents of the decision, shortly after the meeting.
Reacting to the development, lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani faulted the decision to slash N3,000 off the the sum.
According to him, many government agencies are declaring ‘record breaking’ Billions and trillions in revenues, while some states also boast of an increase in their Internally generated revenue. This according to him, this implies that both federal and states should be able to pay the earlier agreed sum of N30,000.
Speaking via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, the lawmker wrote:

World Politics / Dino Melaye Gets Respite Again by Jamslek(m): 02:56 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The FCT High Court in Maitama presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu has again granted bail to Sen. Dino Melaye who was arraigned on an eight-count charge of evading arrest.
Dino Melaye
The senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, was arraigned on allegations of conspiracy, resistance to arrest, failure to honour police invitation and intentionally giving false information to the public.
Ruling on the application by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Justice Halilu held that the essence of bail could not be overemphasized, saying that it was meant to make a defendant to stand for trial.
Student goes to jail for stealing N1.1m
According to him, in granting a defendant bail, the court has to consider the nature of the charge, the antecedent of the bail applicant, among others.
He held that the constitution presumes a defendant innocent until found guilty by the court.
The judge, therefore, upheld the earlier bail granted the Melaye on Jan. 18 and added that Melaye should not leave the shores of the country without a written application to the court.
He held that the police’s refusal to release the senator after being granted bail by the court called for serious concern.
Halilu further held that the bail was to ensure that whoever charged was not allowed to suffer while his trail was going on.
According to him, the police and the judiciary were partners in criminal administration in the country.
Halilu, however, directed Ozekhome to warn his client to ensure that he does not comment on the matter before the court in any media.
“This is the only country where people make very unguarded comment on matters that are sub jaundice,” he said.
He then adjourned the case until Feb. 25 for commencement of trial.
Breaking: Dino Melaye surrenders
While granting Melaye bail last Friday, the judge ordered that the senator provide three sureties, two of whom must show evidence of landed properties in Abuja, adding that the third must be the Clerk of the National Assembly.
According to him, the clerk had to write a letter to the court assuring that the senator would be produced in court whenever he was required.
The prosecuting counsel, Mr Shuaibu Labaran alleged that Melaye conspired with one Silas Omenka on Dec. ,28, 2018 to commit an offence of illegal obstruction of lawful arrest.
This he said was contrary to section 97 of the penal code.
He alleged further that he intentionally resisted lawful arrest, contrary to section 172 of the penal code.
Police also alleged that he tweeted that the Inspector General of Police planned to arrest him and inject him to death which was false, contrary to section 416 of the penal code.

World Politics / President’s Inauguration In Dr Congo May Be Postponed by Jamslek(m): 04:13 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Democratic Republic of Congo’s opposition politician Felix Tshisekedi attends a press conference in Geneva, following the designation of a joint candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.
Fabrice COFFRINI / AFP
The swearing-in of the newly-elected president of DR Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, may be postponed by two days until Thursday, a source in his coalition said Monday.
“According to the information I was given this morning, the (ceremony) has been put off until Thursday,” Lydie Omanga, spokesman for the opposition coalition which backed Tshisekedi in the race to succeed outgoing President Joseph Kabila, told AFP.
Kabila’s deputy head of cabinet, Jean-Pierre Kambila, said: “a meeting will take place at 5:00 pm (1600 GMT) today to settle the matter.”
“If the ceremony does not take place tomorrow, it will be on January 24, without doubt,” he added.
Sources close to the president-elect said Monday that aspects of the ceremony remained to be decided. Invitations notably have to be sent to foreign heads of state and government, they said.
The timetable of the national electoral commission, which oversaw the long-delayed elections across the vast country, provided for the new head of state to be sworn in on Tuesday, January 22.
Tshisekedi’s announced victory was legally challenged by runner-up Martin Fayulu, who called the outcome “an electoral coup” — an alleged stitch up between Kabila and Tshisekedi.
Leaked figures from the provisional vote count appear to point heavily in his favour.
But the Constitutional Court on Sunday dismissed his appeal.
Kabila came to power in 2001 while war raged in the vast and mineral-rich country.
He extended his term by two years from 2016, unleashing protests that the security forces bloodily repressed.
Tshisekedi, 55, is the son of the late veteran opposition leader Etienne Tshisekedi, who died in February 2017, aged 84.
African countries that had expressed reservations about the provisional results of the election have begun to acknowledge Tshisekedi as the next president.
And the African Union, which previously said it had “serious doubts” about the figures, said Sunday it had “taken note” of the court’s ruling.
It also said it was postponing sending a high-level delegation to Kinshasa on Monday to try to ease the dispute.
But the influential Roman Catholic Church, which says it deployed 40,000 observers to monitor the poll, has dismissed the official outcome.
The election would mark the first peaceful transfer of power from one president to another in the Democratic Republic of Congo since independence from Belgium in 1960.
The vast country suffered two regional wars in 1996-97 and 1998-2003, and the last two presidential elections, in 2006 and 2011, were marred by bloody clashes.

Sports / Just In!! Check Out The Latest Update On Higuain’s Big Move To Chelsea. by Jamslek(m): 04:11 pm On 1 Jan 2019
AC Milan’s on-loan striker Gonzalo Higuain remains in Italy as the club attempts to secure a replacement for the Argentine before sanctioning his move to Chelsea.
The 31-year-old, on loan from Juventus, has not travelled with his team-mates to Monday’s Serie A game at Genoa.
Talks are continuing over a deal that would take him to Stamford Bridge.
Milan are hopeful of signing Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, enabling Higuain’s move to Chelsea.
Genoa’s general director Giorgio Perinetti has told Italian radio a meeting over Poland international Piatek, 23, will take place after today’s game and a conclusion is expected one way or another within 48 hours.
If agreement is reached on the proposed moves, financial negotiations and medicals are likely to be completed swiftly, allowing both signings to go through.
Higuain’s spell at Milan began well, with the Argentina international scoring six goals in five games for the 18-time Italian league champions.
However, he has only found the net once in his past 12 appearances.

World Politics / 2019: Inec Speaks On Possibility Of Postponing Elections by Jamslek(m): 04:08 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, says there is no possibility that the 2019 general elections will be postponed.
Yakubu said this over the weekend in an interview on The Osasu Show which was aired on AIT.
He said, “I cannot see any possibility of a postponement. We started this a long time ago; we have gone ahead with preparations. INEC is not even contemplating the possibility of a postponement.”
He also said the commission had contacted the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to release corps members for the elections.
Yakubu added, “We are liaising with the NYSC for ad hoc workers to be used for the elections, and where there are shortfalls, the commission has a very clear policy: we will make up the difference by using students of federal tertiary institutions.
“Unless the number is exhausted and there is still a shortfall, we will then go to the state tertiary institutions.”

World Politics / Buhari Has Ordered The Prosecution Of Babachir Lawal Over Grass-cutting Scandal – Osinbajo Reveals by Jamslek(m): 03:57 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo said on Sunday that Babachir Lawal would be prosecuted for allegedly stealing money earmarked for the displaced victims of Boko Haram insurgency, Premium Times reports.
The vice-president said President Muhammadu Buhari had prevailed on anti-corruption agencies to prepare criminal charges against Mr Lawal, who served as cabinet secretary from 2015 until he was disgraced out of office on October 31, 2017, after being indicted of stealing millions of emergency funds.
Mr Osinbajo said Ayodele Oke, the former director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) was also recommended for prosecution.
Mr Oke was the NIA head when a large vault of money was found in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos in April 2017.
“The president has directed that the SGF and former DG of NIA should be prosecuted,” Mr Osinbajo was quoted as saying by the News Agency of Nigeria at a Lagos dialogue organised by Christian youth affiliated to the GRILL, Ikeja Branch.
The government has faced criticism for its snail progress in bringing charges against Mr Lawal, who was first found to have stolen millions of IDP funds using firms linked to him in a December 2016 Senate investigation.
The president initially argued that there was no substance in the Senate investigation, but ultimately succumbed to public pressure to remove him and ward off any political garbage that the administration could suffer from the scandal.
Even though he was removed from office, Mr Lawal continued to associate with Mr Buhari, and there is no indication the president was ever uncomfortable with this.
The disgraced former government secretary had also been the president’s point man in Adamawa State, as well as a major player in the reelection campaign team.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited Mr Lawal for questioning at least twice, although it was unclear whether any charges were filed.
Still, Mr Osinbajo said, “we are expecting that prosecution will take place.”
“The next of course is that criminal allegations will be filed against them and the prosecution process will be completed,” he added.

Weird News / Labour Protest Leader Arrested by Jamslek(m): 03:48 pm On 1 Jan 2019
An Iranian labour protest leader has been arrested for the second time, state media reported Monday, after the judiciary denied his claim that he was tortured in custody late last year.
Police
ONNOGHEN: Obi decries alleged intimidation of judiciary
Esmail Bakhshi “was arrested last night in cooperation with security and law enforcement forces,” Mansour Mohammadi, the prosecutor general of Dezful, in Khuzestan province, told the judiciary’s news website Mizan Online.
Bakhshi was one of the organisers of weeks of protests at the Haft Tapeh sugar factory in the city of Shush in November and December, over unpaid wages and alleged criminal activity by new private owners.
State TV on Saturday broadcast a programme claiming that Bakhshi and Sepideh Gholian, another activist who supported the Haft Tapeh strikers, had connections with Europe-based activists who “aim to topple the state”.
The programme featured footage of Bakhshi and Gholian sitting behind desks in front of red and blue curtains, detailing their connections and activities with the activists, allegedly based in several European countries.
The footage was undated and taken in an unknown location.
Both Bakhshi and Gholian were detained last year during the protests.
Gholian was also arrested Sunday, according to Mizan Online.
The semi-official Fars news agency, close to conservatives, said Bakshi had attempted to flee the country to continue the “torture allegation project” abroad.
After his release from his first detention, Bakhshi claimed on his Instagram account, that he had been tortured during his 25-day detention by agents of the intelligence ministry.
In the post in early January, he also said the ministry had been eavesdropping on him and his family.
His Instagram account was later deleted.
The torture claim sparked a controversy in Iran, where officials from members of parliament to high-ranking judicial figures promising a full investigation.
Enquiries by parliament, the judiciary and the intelligence ministry found that Bakhshi had not been tortured.
Iran saw multiple strikes and protests last year over working conditions in key sectors including steel, education, mining and transport.
The Haft Tapeh protests ended in late December, with the workers being paid and the factory re-opening.
In November, the head of Iran’s judiciary warned restive workers against creating “disorder”.
Mizan Online quoted Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani as saying: “workers should not allow their demands to become an excuse and an instrument for the enemy.”

Weird News / Miracle Child! Meet The Baby Who Suffered 25 Heart Attacks In Just 1 Day And Still Survived by Jamslek(m): 03:45 pm On 1 Jan 2019
A nine-month-old baby boy suffered 25 heart attacks in a single day but miraculously managed to survive.
Little Theo Fry, who is now 19 at months, is believed to have the most heart attacks in 24 hours ever seen by British doctors.
But his cardiac problems begun when he was just eight days old in May 2017.
He started turning blue and then grey after appearing very sleepy to his mum, Fauve Syers, who rang 111 as a precaution.
The NHS helpline said Theo should be immediately taken to Salford Royal Hospital where a team of 40 medics were waiting for him.
They said he had heart failure and would die without urgent surgery.
Doctors managed to stabilise him, but he needed open heart surgery four days later at the children's hospital Alder Hey in Liverpool.
Theo has since made a great recovery and is now 19 months old
Theo was diagnosed with an interrupted aortic arch which means his heart — which also has two holes in it — couldn't pump blood around his body.
Dad Steven Fry, 35, told The Mirror: "We were told if we hadn't called 111 that night, Theo wouldn't have woken up next morning."
He even made it through a heart attack during the operation in which surgeons battled to keep him alive.
Medics kept him in Alder Hey for three months, during which he contracted sepsis and had another cardiac arrest.
But after he was discharged, Theo had arrhythmia for weeks — when the the pulse jumps to dangerous speeds — and he was taken back to hospital.
He was supposed to be in for 24 hours' monitoring, but he didn't go home again for another six months.
After being in intensive care over Christmas and suffering three separate heart attacks, things became even more deadly on the night of January 31 2018.
Theo with dad Steven, eight-year-old sister Leila, and mum Fauve
He suffered 25 cardiac arrests in just one day.
Mum Fauve said: "It was horrific. He was having attack after attack. I knew he couldn't take much more. Every time it happened, nurses would buzz for the arrest team.
"I watched the resus team working on him with every chest compression, thinking, 'Oh my god, please don't let this be his last breath'."
Theo was sent into theatre for ten hours where surgeons found his left ventricle covered in scar tissue, which stopped it from working properly.
But once once doctors successfully completed the operation, Theo made an instant recovery and was back home within days.
In the last year, Fauve and Steven have been fundraising for Healing Little Hearts — a UK charity that sends NHS surgical teams to poor countries to operate on children who would otherwise die.

An Indian man was mauled to death by a lion after he scaled the wall of a zoo in northern Punjab state, officials said Monday.
The man climbed the 20-foot (six-metre) wall of Chhatbir Zoo, home to four lions, on Sunday and entered the restricted area where he was attacked.
Hearing his screams, the staff rushed to try and rescue the man.
“He was an intruder in the zoo. We took him to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries,” said Roshan Sunkaria from the state forest department.
The animal that attacked the man was an Asiatic lion — a critically endangered species and a major tourist draw.
Only around 500 exist in the wild, all in the Gir sanctuary in the western Indian state of Gujarat.
The authorities have not yet been able to contact the victim’s family.
The zoo has stepped up warnings inside the premises and advised visitors to travel with an escort and keep vehicles locked.

“I will mobilise like minds to add value to the ongoing electioneering campaigns to ensure that President Buhari is re-elected.”
The LP chieftain, who is the Mayegun, Aare Ona Kankanfo of Yorubaland, said President Buhari, in his estimation and within the context of his main challenger, has no doubt established a strong base upon which the nation can consolidate for the future.
“After a careful analysis of the two leading presidential candidates in this election, that is, President Buhari of the All Progressives Party (APC) and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I have come to realise that Buhari, despite the rough and tough terrain remains focused and determined not to be distracted by enemies of the country.
“One can point to Buhari’s massive achievements despite all distractions in the areas of the fight against corruption, infrastructural transformation and development.
“He did not abandon ongoing projects that need completion for national development and his administration recognised and honoured late Chief Gani Fawehinmi and the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, among others.
“Also, we cannot easily forget where we were before 2015; when impunity and impudence held sway and how far we’ve come as a nation under Buhari.
“It shall be my humble responsibility to join hands with other eminent and patriotic Nigerians to reach out, rigorously canvass and make our people see why the ongoing national journey of rebirth of our great country, Nigeria must continue.
“We can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs; our sacrifice, therefore, is imperative in voting President Buhari for the second term,” he said.
Ajulo noted that at this moment of the country’s political journey, formidable ideologies could but say their takes on the future of the country, as silence or sitting on the fence was of no use to the nation.
“Nigeria, our collective patrimony, is at a crossroads where some of us have to take a position, so one can be recorded to have taken a side on political development of the country.
‘ Hence, the decision to release this statement to notify my co-patriots of my political decision and where I stand.
“But the truth remains that the options available to us, in accordance with the objective realities of the prerequisite for winning a presidential election under our prevailing system today, are limited.
“The evident truth is that most of the other presidential candidates do not even have the capacity to have their political party agents in a quarter of the 36 States of the Federation.
“ My constructive criticism of this administration was to ensure that the President lays the required foundation the country needs to move forward, and he has in the last three and half years, dedicated himself to rebuilding our country, laying a solid foundation which we needed since 1999,” he said.
Ajulo noted that the caution at which pubic officers in Nigeria handled public funds were a result of the premium President Buhari placed on his anti-corruption policy.
“As for His Excellency, Atiku , I cannot pitch my tent with him, for not only obvious reasons of integrity challenge but also integrity deficiencies of those who surround him.
“ Atiku’s determination and boast to sell NNPC once elected as President is a reminding nightmare for me on the infamous way and manner our national assets were sold to family and friends under his watch as the then Vice-President of Nigeria.
“Although Atiku promised to restructure Nigeria in response to agitations of Southern Nigeria Patriots, the sincerity of this promise is shown as he never canvassed such position among his people in the North and he has never at any time revealed the blue print of such equitable process,” Ajulo added.

World Politics / Buhari Finally Reacts To Obasanjo’s Attack [full Text] by Jamslek(m): 10:11 am On 1 Jan 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari, Sunday night lambasted former President Olusegun Obasanjo for attacking and his government.
Obasanjo has compared the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to that of the Abacha era.
Reacting, presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, in a statement said: “The sixteen-page letter the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari and released this afternoon is the last push by desperate politicians who can’t handle the President politically and have resorted to subterfuge.
Our first message to the former President is that he needs a good doctor for good treatment and to say to him, “Get well soon.”
As repeatedly said of him, since Chief Obasanjo left office in 1979, he never let every succeeding leader of the country function freely, and this included the one he personally handpicked against all known rules drawn up by the party that put him in the office of the President. But Chief Obasanjo is jealous because President Buhari has more esteem than him and the sooner he learns to respect him the better.
It is a notorious fact that in dealing with any leader that he failed to control, he resorted to these puerile attacks. As the grand patron, more correctly the grandfather of corruption as described by the National Assembly, Chief Obasanjo released today’s letter purely for the reason of rescuing his thriving corruption establishment.
The elections starting in February will be free and fair as promised the nation and the international community by President Buhari.
What Chief Obasanjo and his co-travelers in the PDP should expect is that from the outcome, we will teach them a political lesson that they will never forget. This margin will be much bigger than we had in 2015.
Claims that President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have embarked on the president’s “self- succession project, by recruiting collation officers who are already awarding results based on their projects to actualise the perpetuation agenda, in which the people will not matter and the votes will not count” is not only utterly false, but a copious note from the book on the failed third term agenda of President Obasanjo.
The man, President Buhari who has taken Nigeria’s reputation to a higher level internationally and is working hard to improve on the records of elections he found in place cannot descend to the level that Obasanjo has himself sunk.
As for his attacks of the administration’s records in fighting corruption, what the former President said is no more than evidence that President Buhari’s war against corruption is succeeding. They thought it is all a joke.
A leader who took USD 16 billion “upfront” to supply electric power yet failed to add a single megawatt to the national grid and to date, there is no trace of the money is jittery that he will be called to account. He is a coward.
Chief Obasanjo, manifesting a confused state of mind blames President Buhari for the fall of Libya into a failed state and the unholy alliance between the Boko Haram terrorists and the ISIS, while at the same time calling it an African problem, saying “the struggle must be for all West African, Central African, North African and most East African States,” which really does not amount to saying anything new.
Nigerians looked up to him as a role model and a ray of hope to ethical and clean leadership until President Yar’Adua called him out to explain what happened to the sixteen billion dollars of taxpayer’s money. It is clear that with him sitting on top of the heap of corruption, he is no different from the crowd he leads.
This language of his 16-page letter, likening President Buhari to General Sani Abacha, a man he dreaded and the one who jailed him under military laws is most unfitting from a former President of Nigeria.
The claim that President Buhari has put in place rigging machinery is both outlandish and outrageous. We are unable to get the words to describe a 90-year old liar, except to say that by the publication of this tissue of lies against the President, he Obasanjo, not the President will fall from everyone’s esteem.”

Pets Lovers / Do You Have An Ex Lover Who Won’t Go Away? Check Out 5 Ways To Deal With Them by Jamslek(m): 10:05 am On 1 Jan 2019
If you have an ex lover who has refused to just go away, we have some tips to help you effectively deal with them.
Breaking up is never an easy experience for both parties (both the initiator and the dumped).
While popularly, the dumped party always tends to respect the wishes of their ex, some others find it difficult letting go.
These ‘die-hard’ exes will often go to lengths like persuading the other party to continue the relationship, stalking, or even becoming aggressive towards them by making threats, carrying out emotional or physical abuse.
The root course of this ‘over-attachment’ is often their denial of reality or fear of the unknown: having to be lonely and the uncertainty of meeting someone new with whom they can form a bond with.
While one cannot choose the kind of ex they’ll get, these five steps will help in handling an ex who doesn’t want to let go:
1. Be Firm With Your Decision
Make sure to clearly define why you’re breaking up with this person because it is the clarity of the situation that can determine how to relay this information to them and stick to your words.
2. Break Communication
It might seem that the more mature thing to do is stay in communication with an ex but that isn’t true. Keeping in touch with an ex defeats the purpose of a break up.
Momentarily breaking off communication with an ex is recommended in order to really face being alone and focusing on healing for both parties involved.
There are no rules saying exes cannot get back together but then again, that is the role of taking a break in relationships.
3. Never Feel Guilty
The biggest mistake individuals going through a break up make is guilt-tripping themselves.
Remember that before anything else, you’re human and it is in your nature to make mistakes.
Whether or not breaking up with your ex was a mistake or the right thing to do, choking yourself with guilt will do neither of you any good.
Move on with life no matter how hard it hurts.
4. Never Bear Grudges
In addition to freeing yourself from guilt, it is important not to bear grudges towards an ex.
It doesn’t matter whose fault it was the relationship s**ked, both of you are humans. And as we’ve established earlier, people make mistakes.
Forgive, try and learn from the experiences you shared with this person as you go on with living.
5. Report Threats, Abuse Or Any Form Of Violence
When dealing with a stalking, aggressive or abusive ex, make sure to report any threats, acts of violence or abuse they might try or actually inflict on you.
Make reports to the right authorities as well as letting your family members, close friends or even neighbors know about the situation.

The End!!!

Weird News / Buhari Will Return Home If The Election Is Free, Fair And Peaceful - Obasanjo by jamslek(m): 03:59 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Nigeria's former president Olusegun Obasanjo has said President Muhammadu Buhari will return to his Daura home town in Katsina state if the 2019 presidential election is free and fair
- The former president made the declaration at the Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun state, on Sunday, January 20
- Obasanjo says Nigeria now needs a man with better physical and mental soundness, with an active mind and intellect
Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that President Muhammadu Buhari will return to Daura, his home town in Katsina state, if the 2019 presidential election is free, fair, peaceful and credible.
Obasanjo made this declaration when he addressed journalists at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun state, on Sunday, January 20, Legit.ng
reports.
The former ECOWAS chairman whose address did not last more than eight minutes, simply gave out a booklet titled ‘Points for concern and action’ and asked the journalists present to go through it.

On page 14 of the booklet, Obasanjo wrote: “While Nigerians must appreciate Buhari for the little he has done and allow him to depart for home in peace if he allows free, fair, peaceful and credible elections, we must also tell ourselves that Nigeria deserves better at this point in time than what Buhari is capable of offering.
“History will note that he has been there. Nigeria now needs a man with better physical and mental soundness, with an active mind and intellect.”
In the next paragraph, he stated emphatically that the impunity will not last because “Nigeria is created by God and it will outlive all evil machinations and designs against the overall interest of Nigeria”.
Legit.ng previously reported that former president Olusegun Obasanjo warned Ndigbo to be wary of promises from the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The ex-president gave the advice on Saturday, December 29, 2018, during a stakeholders' meeting at Ukpor in the Nnewi South local government area of Anambra state.
Obasanjo said the APC had no plans to hand over the presidency of the country to the Igbo.
According to the former president, Igbo should take their destiny in their hands by getting united in the 2019 general elections and make a mark.

He said: “I urge you the Igbo not to allow anybody to relegate you to the background because you occupy a place of preeminence in this country.
“The Igbo must bury their differences and work together for the actualisation of the Atiku/Obi project in their best interest. It’s dangerous to take the APC government seriously.”

Education / Fg To Meet With Asuu On Monday, January 21 by jamslek(m): 03:43 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Academic Staff Union of Universities and the federal government will be meeting on Monday, January 21
- The duo will be meeting to resume talks on how to end the lingering strike that has left students idle since November 4, 2018
- Among other things, ASUU is demanding for improved funding of universities and implementation of previous agreements with the government
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government will be meeting on Monday, January 21, to resume talks on how to resolve the impasse over the two-month-old industrial action.
The disclosure was made on Friday, January 18, by the national president of the union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, Punch reports.
Legit.ng gathers Ogunyemi said there was no fresh development with regard to the resolution of the dispute between ASUU and federal government.
READ ALSO: NAIJ.com upgrades to Legit.ng: a letter from our Editor-in-Chief Bayo Olupohunda
He said: “I’ am afraid nothing new. I understand they will be meeting us on Monday. Let’s wait and see if they take a reasonable step; it will determine our next line of action. Until then, let’s wait and see.”
Recall that the ASUU president had earlier said the union was tired of government’s failed promises.
He said: “Last year, they promised to release the funds but they did not until November when the strike began. Our members are saying they do not want promises again; what they want is action, implementation or disbursement of funds.
“The government must act in a way to convince the union that the agreement has not been set aside. To show that the government has not set aside the agreement, they should release one tranche.”
"We are going to have a discussion on when to commence renegotiation because there are still grey areas. If the government can substantially address these issues, we will be more confident to face our members on the way forward. For now, the signals we are getting is that our members do not actually want to accept this government proposal from us.”
However, a source who craved anonymity at the ministry of labour and employment, blamed ASUU for the lingering strike.
According to the source, the federal government has shown commitment to the union's demands. The source said it was better to start from what the FG had offered than halting negotiation.
The source added: “The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, had told the leadership of ASUU that the FG would accept many of their demands but flexibility is needed to implement the rest.
"They left the meeting happy and said they would discuss the progress with their other organs. But they had delayed in moving forward. The blame is no longer on the FG. ASUU should come forward with what they think of the FG’s commitment so far.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday, January 17, asked the federal government to release N50 billion out of N220 billion it had agreed to make available for the revitalisation of public universities.
The union in a series of tweet on its official Twitter handle said the payment for the institutions would fall in line with previous agreements made between the FG and the union.
It also said that the N50 billion would be added to the N20 billion earlier released by the federal government for the year.

Crime / Fg Begins Probe Into Cjn Onnoghen’s 13-year Salary Account by jamslek(m): 03:39 pm On 1 Jan 2019
- A 13-year salary account of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, is currently under probe by the federal government
- The FG alleged that Onnoghen's salary account received about N100 million in 11-years
- According to the federal government, the probe will expose alleged questionable deposits made into Onnoghen's account
The Nigerian government has launched a probe into the 13-salary account of the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.
Punch reports that the probe into the salary account of the CJN will date back to September 2005 is expected to expose alleged questionable deposits made into Onnoghen's account.
It was also gathered that a fact sheet from the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) which was sent to the Attorney General of the Federation showed that about N100 million was received through the CJN's salary account with Union Bank Plc between September 2005 and October 2016.
READ ALSO: Buhari to inaugurate Zik Mausoleum in Onitsha Thursday, January 24
According to the sheet, Onnoghen's account was at N240,202 in 2005 but rose to N751,082.37 in February 2008, surpassing his salary.
"His salary in 2005 was N240, 202. 20 and it rose to N751, 082.37 in February 2008. The salary remains within range till date.
“However, the turnover in the account from September 2005 to October 2016 was N91, 962, 362.49.
“He did not spend from the salary account from March 2015 to October 2016. The salary and allowances accumulated to N22, 520, 636.27 in October 2016 from N6, 132, 885.24 in March of the same year," the fact sheet said.
Also, investigations by the NFIU has shown that the funds deposited into the CJN's account are allegedly questionable.
“From the investigations conducted so far, it is plausible that the payments into the various accounts are bribes.
This is because the sources of inflows into his accounts other than the salary account in Union Bank are unknown and probably fraudulent and the nature of the transactions (including structured payments) are not typical of the transactions of a public servant,” the sheet said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the federal government had reportedly filed a motion at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) seeking the removal of Walter Onnoghen as the chief justice of Nigeria (CJN).
It was gathered that the motion was filed by Musa Ibrahim and Fatima Danjuma Ali on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation on Thursday, January 17.
According to the government, the move is aimed at ensuring that Onnoghen is not a judge in his case and that the next in line of seniority, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, becomes the acting CJN pending the determination of the substantive suit.

World Politics / 41 Lawmakers Who Are Not Returning To Senate After 2019 Elections (full List) by jamslek(m): 03:30 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Not fewer than 41 serving senators from various political parties have lost the opportunity to seek re-election and return to the upper legislative chamber.
This, according to Daily Trust, is based on the list of Senatorial candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, January 17.
Legit.ng gathers that the list indicates only 68 out of the 109 senators at the eighth National Assembly have secured their parties’ return ticket, thus having chances of being a member of the ninth National Assembly if they win their elections.
READ ALSO: Our future is not in the hands of retired generals - Oshiomole
While most of the 41 senators who will not be returning to the Red Chamber lost the tickets to other members of their parties, six of them did not contest for return tickets at all, having secured the governorship tickets in their respective states. Also, a few others did not seek re-election, hence did not take part in the primaries.
The 8th Senate is headed by Senator Bukola Saraki from Kwara state.
Those who went for the governorship tickets
Senators Jeremiah Useni (PDP, Plateau)
Sunny Ogbouji (APC, Ebonyi)
John Owan-Enoh (APC, C/River)
Usman Bayero Nafada (PDP, Gombe)
Hope Uzodinma (APC, Imo)
Abdulaziz Nyako (ADC, Adamawa)
Based on the INEC list, a total of seven serving governors got tickets to contest for the Senate. They are;
Kashim Shettima (Borno)
Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe)
Rochas Okorocha (Imo)
Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara)
Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun)
Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo)
Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe)
Note : Latest reports indicate Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has dropped his senatorial ambition
Also, among the serving senators who are not returning are five former governors. They are;
Ahmed Sani Yarima (Zamfara)
Bukar Abba Ibrahim (Yobe)
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano)
Joshua Dariye (Plateau)
Jonah David Jang (Plateau)
The list also showed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no candidate in Rivers and Zamfara states. All serving senators from the two states are of the APC.
While an Appeal Court ruled that the APC could not field candidates in Rivers state due to certain irregularities in the party’s primaries, INEC rejected the party’s candidates in Zamfara state, citing lack of adherence to the deadline for conducting primaries. The matter is, however, still in court.
Thus, if the matters pending in court (Rivers and Zamfara) are eventually resolved in favour of the APC, the number of senators who lost return opportunity may be reduced to either 38 or 35.
Daily Trust notes that all senators from 11 states below and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) got their return tickets. The states are: Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bauchi, Delta, Edo, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Ondo, Sokoto.
BAYELSA
The senatorial candidates’ list showed that none of the three senators from Bayelsa state will be returning. Emmanuel Paulker and Ogola Foster lost their return tickets to Diri Douye and Ewhrudjakpo Lawrence respectively while Senator Ben Murray-Bruce pulled out of the race after purchasing nomination form.
OGUN
In Ogun state, the three serving senators, Olanrewaju Adeyemi Tejuoso, Buruji Kashamu and Joseph Gbolahan Dada have lost their tickets to other contenders.
The new holders of the senatorial tickets are Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Adeola Ayoola Sosanwo and Akinremi Tolulope Odebiyi, respectively.
OSUN
The situation is similar on Osun state. The three senators from the state, namely Olusola Adeyeye, Babajide Christopher Omoworare and Ademola Adeleke will not be returning. They may be replaced by Basiru Ajibola Surajudeen, Famurewa Israel Ajibola and Kamoruddeen Olalere Oyewumi respectively, who now hold the tickets.
Senator Adeyeye reportedly did not seek re-election.
PLATEAU
Also in Plateau state, all the three senators: Jeremiah Useni, Jonah Jang and Joshua Dariye will not be returning. Kefas Peter Dandam, Gyang Istifanus Dung and Hezekiah Ayuba Dimka got the Senate tickets in their place.
Senator Husseini has since picked the PDP governorship ticket in the state.
ADAMAWA
Senator Nyako of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will not be returning as he has picked the ADC governorship ticket in the state. Umar Mustapha Madawaki has also Senate picked the ticket to replace him.
BENUE
One of the longest-serving senators in the history of Nigeria, Senator David Mark, has decided not to return to the Red Chamber again. Thus, Abba Moro has picked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket to replace him.
BORNO
Governor Shettima of Borno state has got the ticket to contest for Borno Central seat to replace the current occupant, Senator Baba Kaka Garbai.
CROSS RIVER
The current serving APC senator in Cross River state, John Owan-Enoh, has secured the party’s governorship ticket, giving the space to Onor Sandy Ojang.
EBONYI
Also, Onu Nwaeze Prince secured the APC ticket for Ebonyi South to replace Sunny Ogbuoji who is now the APC governorship candidate in Ebonyi.
EKITI
Senator Fatimat Olufunke Raji-Rasaki of the APC lost her ticket to a former member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele.

IMO
Governor Okorocha and Onyewuchi Francis have secured tickets to replace Senators Hope Uzodinma and Sam Anyanwu.
The two serving senators from the state contested for governorship tickets in APC and PDP. While Uzodinma got his party’s ticket in a controversial primary, Anyanwu was not successful.
JIGAWA
Danladi Abdullahi Sankara now has the APC ticket to battle for the seat currently occupied by Senator Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel.
KANO
Aliyu Sani Madaki, a House of Reps member, has also picked the ticket to replace Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s seat.
KATSINA
Senator Abu Ibrahim of Katsina South, who did not seek re-election, may be replaced by Bello Mandiya, who got the ticket while Kabir Abdullahi Barkiya got the ticket for Katsina Central to replace Senator Umaru Ibrahim Kurfi.
KWARA
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, who has reportedly ceded his ticket to Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, has his name as the PDP candidate for Kwara South, while Zakari Mohammed, another House of Reps member, picked the ticket for Kwara North to contest the seat of Senator Shaba Lafiagi.
LAGOS
Senator Gbenga Ashafa from Lagos state will not be returning as Osinowo Sikiru Adebayo picked the APC ticket for his seat.
NASARAWA
John Michael Abdul picked the PDP ticket for Nasarawa North to replace Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka, who had contested for the governorship ticket.
NIGER
Out of the three senators from Niger state, Senator Mohammed Garba lost his return ticket to Muhammad Enagi Bima.
OYO
Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi will not be returning as Governor Abiola Ajimobi has picked his ticket.
TARABA
Senator Isa Lau from Taraba state will also not be returning as Bako Dahiru Gassol has picked the ticket.

Big things have small beginnings but they also have early starts. The earlier you invest, the better you are in relation to others around you and the edge you have in pursuing your life goals. You will be able to afford your needs when they arise and have little or no financial worries in future compared to people who don’t invest at all or invest later on in life
You can take risks
Volatile ventures have been known to yield the highest returns but a major reason you will be willing to invest in these is if you have time on your hands. This is why later investors are usually more careful with their financial investments and so cannot take the needed risks. At the end of the day, they are limited to regular returns because they can only invest in low risk ventures that yield low returns.

World Politics / Buhari Explains Why He Shunned Presidential Debate, Blasts Atiku. by jamslek(m): 12:07 pm On 1 Jan 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has provided reasons for his absence at the presidential debate on Saturday.
President Buhari spoke through the Director of Strategic Communication of his campaign organization, Festus Keyamo, SAN.
DAILY POST had earlier reported that President Buhari and the president candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, shunned the debate.
Giving his reasons in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST on Saturday evening, Buhari said, “The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who is also the APC Presidential Candidate in the forthcoming Presidential Election, President Muhammadu Buhari, could not attend the Presidential Debate organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria which held today, Saturday, January 19, 2019 for the following reasons:
“Firstly, out of several opportunities afforded our candidate to interact with the Nigerian people directly by different organisations, our presidential candidate has taken full advantage of another town-hall meeting organized by another group which held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
“He was also joined at that town-hall meeting by our Vice-Presidential candidate who is also the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.
“Nigerians from all walks of life who were physically present and through on-line platforms asked uncensored questions which were adequately answered. It was also transmitted live by various broadcast networks in Nigeria.
“In addition, the busy and hectic official and campaign schedules of Mr. President clashed with this programme. Today, Mr. President commissioned the Baro Inland Water Port in Niger State and campaigned in Niger and Plateau States where his time was over-stretched by the tumultuous and mammoth crowds in both States, (as seen by Nigerians on live television) and only returned to Abuja late this evening.
“Whilst we thank the organisers for the invitation, we want to assure Nigerians that we shall continue to hold these debate groups and Nigerians in high esteem which our candidate has demonstrated during past election debates when he honoured similar invitations. Nigerians will also recall that a few weeks ago, our Vice-Presidential candidate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, also attended the debate organized by the same organisations.
“Lastly, we note the statement of the candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who actually came for the event and left the venue when he did not see Mr. President, who is our candidate. According to him, he would not want to “attack” Mr. President in his absence.
“It should now be obvious to Nigerians that for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the PDP, this election is all about attacking the person and programmes of Mr. President and not about proffering their own solutions to the problems they created during their sixteen years of misrule, maladministration and looting of the nation’s resources. When they cannot see President Buhari to attack, the content of their campaign becomes hollow, empty and ‘full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.’
“Now that Atiku Abubakar had a unique opportunity to explain to Nigerians his own vision and mission without a President Buhari in the picture, he ran away. Afterall, he has his own eight years of crass and grand corruption as Vice President to defend before the Nigerian people.
“On February 16, 2019 we urge Nigerians to demonstrate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the PDP, through their votes, how empty indeed their campaign has always been and to vote massively for President Muhammadu Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN who have started the rebuilding process of our great nation.”

World Politics / Imo Stakeholders Endorse Uzodinma. by jamslek(m): 12:01 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The attention was not so much on what he said, though what he said was weighty; in fact too serious and thought provoking to be ignored.
Uzodinma
But the focus was on why he did what he did. Its sheer novelty and originality, the brilliance and sincerity, the innermost conviction in the delivery of the words held them captive and almost brought tears to their eyes.
Imo 2019: The monkey and dog metaphor
It was Chief Bob Njemanze, a well-known social critic and political leader who summed it up, saying that he attended the event just to confirm that it was really happening.
Yes, it actually happened. And yet again, Senator Hope Uzodinma scored another first as he marches steadily with sure – footed feet to Douglas House, the seat of power in Imo State. The APC Governorship candidate had invited all major stakeholders in the state to present his vision and mission document for Imo as he seeks their votes ahead of the election in March.
It was to be an interactive session with him presenting his manifesto and for the guests to critique and offer suggestions on how best to make Imo great again.
But the stakeholders comprising religious and political leaders, traditional rulers, Nigerian Labour Congress, Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Medical Association ,Academic Staff Union of Universities, Nigeria Union of Journalists, National Union of Road Transport Workers, National Association of Nigerian Students and several pressure groups among others were actually stunned that the governorship candidate would be that bold to articulate and present a contract document with which Imo people may judge him with as he performs the duties of a governor.
They were used to the usually campaign jiggery pockery of building road and providing electricity. But this was different. It was a road map towards the economic and social rejuvenation of a state that has suffered leadership deficit in the last eight years.
Even Senator Uzodinma himself acknowledged that it was the first of its kind since the creation of the state. He gave reasons for the proposed partnership between him and the stakeholders, stressing the fact that he wants to return Imo State to participatory democracy and inclusive governance.
“The high point of this platform is a firm commitment to a new era of democratic governance characterized by adherence to rule of law. Our vision of a new Imo is predicated on freedom, security and shared prosperity welded into good governance”, he assured.
Uzodimma commended for role in creating LGA’s for Imo in 1996
The APC governorship candidate whose address was entitled “A NEW IMO OF PROSPERITY AND EQUITY” told the core stakeholders that his manifesto was anchored on reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery covering a five point agenda that will see to the reinvigoration of the civil service with salaries and pensions paid on 24th of every month and a vibrant health sector with well-equipped and functional health centers in the 305 wards in the state.
He also pledged to ensure that development trickled down to the rural areas by restoring the full autonomy of local governments as enshrined in the constitution. In that regard, he said local government elections will hold in the state within 12 months of his assumption of office.
It is gratifying that Uzodinma has not only identified the problems of the state but gave a detailed analysis on how to solve them. For instance, under Civil Service and Bureaucracy, the first on his agenda, Uzodinma acknowledged that the Imo civil service is now a shadow of itself leading to low morale and disorientation on the part of the staff. What does he intend to do?
Strengthen the mechanism and processes and restore seniority in the service. In other words, he would return power to the senior civil servants as the engine room of government. above all, he will ensure regular payment of salaries and pensions as well as release of promotions when they are due.
The APC governorship candidate is also aware that education has collapsed in Imo despite the mantra of free education. For three consecutive years, Abia State has been leading in WAEC exams with Imo trailing in fourth place. To reverse it, the new APC government will focus on capacity building among teachers, equip schools and overhaul the curricula to ensure that Imo students receive functional education.
That is the same plan he has for health. Unlike the white elephant houses in the 27 local government areas that go by the name of general hospitals, Hope Uzodinma plans to have a mobile health facility that will have as its fulcrum the 305 health centres in all the wards of Imo State. Aside strengthening the primary health care, he intends to work with all tiers of government in ensuring that both secondary and tertiary health facilities reach Imo people at a minimal cost.
But his major area of focus is the economy. Because hunger is written on faces of majority of Imo people currently, the Distinguished Senator wants to reverse the trend. He wants to tackle graduate unemployment by instituting graduate entrepreneurial skills.
Breaking: Imo APC commences contempt proceedings against Oshiomole
He wants to create jobs by stimulating the economy and most importantly he plans to create the State Economic Development and Rehabilitation Council (SEDRAC) for the sole purpose of tackling the fiscal deficits in the state as well as drive the key economic programmes of the administration. The council will also ensure the recovery of all stolen wealth of Imo people and restore to them that which was taken away, including lands.
However, Hope Uzodinma knows that implementing those programmes without winning back the trust of the people who had been disillusioned by many broken promises of the past will not work. That is why Good Governance, Democracy and Rule of Law, the fifth in the agenda, is very crucial for the state. The summary here is to return power to the people, ensure respect for traditional and religious institutions and protect the interest of the masses at all times.
With rapt attention, the stakeholder listened to what Uzodinma has in stock for Imo people. Like earlier pointed out, they were overwhelmed by the sincerity that marked out his speech; the commitment he openly professed and his humility in acknowledging that he cannot govern alone without running an inclusive government. That was why Chief Bob Njemanze reminded Imo people of what happened eight years ago.
According to him, the incumbent, Rochas Okorocha had told them that he was an undergraduate of Phd but people never took notice until he ran the state aground. He said the presentation by Uzodinma was refreshing in that apart from rekindling hope in Imo people, his road map was attractive and feasible.
Njemanze’s theme rhymed with submission of Rev.Unegbu of the Anglican Communion who spoke on behalf of religious leaders. He said the real grassroot were interested in holistic development anchored on respect for the rule of law and accountable governance as promised by Senator Hope Uzodinma.
He noted that although religious leaders were supposed to be apolitical, they still have the responsibility of praying for God fearing leadership to avert disaster in the future. He was happy that the Distinguished Senator had acquitted himself in the area of philanthropy which was a sign that he will take the welfare of the masses seriously.
Eze Emmanuel Okeke, the traditional ruler of Amaifeke in Orlu local government area of Imo state was also interested in the welfare of the masses. As a man who lives among the poorest of the poor, he knows how bad governance can destroy the dignity of man, hence the need to have an Uzodinma in power as governor. He was particularly elated that the APC candidate pledged to accord respect to traditional rulers and improve significantly on education and health so as to boost the living standard of people. Eze Okeke who imparted his royal blessings on the APC governorship candidate urged him to be true to his words.
Cross River DA suspends gov candidate for endorsing APC flagbearer
That same demand was made by Hon. Amaechi Nwaohia , a former member of Imo State House of Assembly. The lawmaker who had lamented what he described as the emasculation of the legislative arm of government by the outgoing governor, urged Senator Uzodinma to change the narrative. According to him, one of the ways that the APC candidate will clear the rot of the past was to restore the credibility, dignity and sanctity of the legislature as an independent arm of government. Commending Uzodinma for his legislative fecundity in the Senate, Nwaoha asked him to leverage on that experience to restore the pride of the second estate of government.
Amaechi’s comments gave other speakers the inspiration to canvass their positions on specific areas of need as spelt out in the policy document released by the Senator and which they want him to pay attention to. For instance, Comrade Kingsley Okoro of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) commended the APC candidate for enunciating a feasible way of resuscitating education in the state. Describing the current education policy in the state as a sham, Okoro said he was excited with the education blueprint of the APC leader and urged him to ensure that it is fully implemented when he takes over the rein of government on May 29, 2019.
To Hon Onunkwo of Imo Patriotic Front, the revamping of the economy of the state as set out by Uzodinma was not only brilliant but practical. The former legislator said Imo people were looking forward to see Uzodinma revive the economy and put on trial those who sabotaged Imo economy in the first place. He specifically requested the prosecution of those who looted state funds in the last eight years in addition to recovering all lands seized by the outgoing government.
However, Comrade Lambert Ojukwu who spoke on the behalf of journalists said the people of the state were anticipating a government that will respect the rule of law and ensure accountability. He expressed concern over the rate of economic deprivation suffered by Imo people, noting that Senator Uzodinma has the capacity and zeal to turn the economy of the state around. Apparently referring to the innovative nature of the event, Comrade Ojukwu said it showed that the Senator was more than ready to work with the people for the sustained development of the Imo State.
Other stakeholders who spoke included representatives of ASUU, NLC, NMA, NURTW and NBA. They were all agreed that Senator Uzodinma’s vision for the state was on the right track. They also praised his courage for sharing that vision with the stakeholders which invariably meant the signing of a public contract. They however advised him to ensure that he fulfills all the promises he made on that manifesto when eventually he becomes governor. While acknowledging that the document was all encompassing as a path way to Imo’s recovery, in all sectors, the stakeholders challenged other governorship candidates to step forward and emulate the APC flag bearer.
As if Nigeria’s former ambassador to United States, Professor George Obiozor read the minds of the stakeholders correctly, he stood immediately as a guarantor to Hope Uzodinma. The Distinguished scholar and diplomat pledged that the APC will deliver on those promises as embedded in the manifesto. He noted that his presence at the event and the caliber of people who responded to the invitation were a clear confirmation that Imo was now on the march to a truly new beginning. Professor Obiozor urged the stakeholders to transmit the message to their members with a view to ensuring that Uzodinma is elected as next governor of the State.
How I achieved big ticket projects in Bayelsa — Gov. d**kson
Apart from the manifesto presentation, which held last Monday, Senator Uzodinma had earlier flagged off his campaign in Imo State where major roads in Owerri were closed by human traffic who thronged the venue to see the man who had the courage to challenge and defeat Gov. Okorocha for the APC governorship ticket. With the support of these core stakeholders and the masses, it is only but a matter of weeks for him to be confirmed as the next governor of the state.

Sports / Serena Rolls On, Halep Defeats Venus by jamslek(m): 11:52 am On 1 Jan 2019
Simona Halep defeated Venus Williams 6/2; 6/3; to advance to the quarter-finals and thereby prevented a clash of two sisters, after Serena had outclassed Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine 6/2; 6/1.
The world number one player from Romania broke Venus’s serve in the fifth game of the first set. The 38-year multiple Grand Slam winner battled to level in the sixth game but could not convert two break points. In the seventh game, Venus was behind 15-30 on her serve and faced a break point at 30-40 to concede another break. Halep served out the set 6/2.
Venus lost the first game of the second set but succeeded in breaking Halep right away. She had to stave off two break points before holding to lead 2-1. Games proceeded with serve until Venus lost her service game, for a 4-3 tally. Serving to save the match at 3-5, Venus faced two match points at 15-40 and her opponent held to win the match.
The powerful serve of Venus landed five aces to two for Halep who committed same number of double faults compared to four by Venus. Halep hit 21 outright winners to Venus’ 24 but the American made 33 unforced errors to her opponent’s 12. At the finish line Halep amassed 68 total points and Venus had 48.
It was the sixth career meeting by the two players. Venus won their first encounter at the 2012 Madrid Tournament and the next two until Halep achieved her revenge at the 2015 Rome International tournament. Thereafter, the Romanian has won all their encounters.
Sister Serena continued her ruthless march as she rolled over the 18-year old Ukrainian, Dayana who is ranked 59 and plays two-handed on both sides. The duel lasted only 67 minutes. Playing in her second Grand Slam event, the younger player started her campaign in Melbourne by defeating Australia’s Samantha Stosur, 7/5; 6/2 and her second round opponent, Spain’s Carla Suarez-Navarro 6/3; 3/6; 6/1. It was Dayana’s second appearance in a Grand Slam after her debut at the 2018 US Open when she lost in the first round.

Sports / Salah Fires Liverpool Seven Points Clear, United Extend Winning Run. by jamslek(m): 11:14 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Liverpool’s Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Salah (L) celebrates after scoring their first goal during the English Premier League football match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Anfield in Liverpool, north-west England on January 19, 2019. Paul ELLIS / AFP
Liverpool moved seven points clear at the top of the Premier League as Mohamed Salah’s double inspired a dramatic 4-3 victory over Crystal Palace, while Manchester United stretched their winning streak to seven games as they beat Brighton 2-1 on Saturday.
With second-placed Manchester City travelling to the bottom of the table Huddersfield on Sunday, Liverpool seized the chance to tighten their grip on the title race.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were pushed hard by Palace but Salah’s predatory instincts and a woeful mistake from Eagles keeper Julian Speroni ensured Liverpool improved their unbeaten home league run to 32 games.
Liverpool’s haul of 60 points from 23 games tops the Reds’ previous best tally of 59, set at the same stage of the 1893-94 and 1987-88 campaigns.
Palace, the last team to beat Liverpool in a Premier League game at Anfield, in April 2017, took a shock 34th-minute lead.
Wilfried Zaha picked out Andros Townsend, who drilled a crisp finish past Alisson Becker.
Salah had been accused of diving by Palace players after a failed attempt to win a first-half penalty.
But he exacted his revenge with an equaliser 60 seconds after the interval, Egypt forward slotting in his 18th goal of the season after Virgil van Dijk’s shot deflected into his path.
Liverpool went ahead in the 53rd minute when Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino, surrounded by defenders, still managed to unload a shot that deflected in off Palace’s Cheikhou Kouyate.
James Tomkins out-jumped Fabinho to head Palace level in the 65th minute, yet Liverpool were gifted the crucial third 10 minutes later thanks to a howler from Speroni — at 39 the Premier League’s oldest player and making his first appearance since December 2017
James Milner’s cross prompted a nervous flap from Speroni, who tipped the ball high over his own head and Salah was on hand to convert on the line.
Milner was sent off in the 89th minute for a second booking, but Liverpool made in four in stoppage-time through Sadio Mane before Max Meyer capped a frantic finale with Palace’s third.
Child’s play for Pogba
At Old Trafford, Manchester United extended their superb form since interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho.
After a minute’s applause to mark the 25th anniversary of the death of United’s legendary manager Matt Busby, Solskjaer’s side took the lead in the 27th minute.
Gaetan Bong conceded a penalty with a foul on Paul Pogba and the France midfielder stroked home the spospam blocked by adminick for his 10th goal of the season.
Pogba’s ‘rocking the baby’ celebration was to mark him becoming a father for the first time, with his girlfriend Maria Salaues believed to have given birth this week.
United winger Marcus Rashford marked his 150th game for the club with his side’s second goal in the 42nd minute.
Rashford sent a superb finish into the far corner from a tight angle for his fourth goal in his last five games.
Pascal Gross reduced the deficit in the 72nd minute, but United weren’t to be denied as they moved within three points of fourth-placed Chelsea, who face Arsenal later on Saturday.
Newcastle climbed out of the relegation zone with a 3-0 win over Cardiff at St James’ Park that saw their opponents drop into the bottom three.
Fabian Schar put Newcastle ahead with a fine solo effort in the 24th minute.
Schar netted again in the 63rd minute and Ayoze Perez struck in stoppage-time to give Newcastle their first win in six league games.
Southampton boosted their bid to avoid relegation with a 2-1 victory against Everton at St Mary’s.
James Ward-Prowse scored in the 50th minute for Saints, who went further ahead through a bizarre Lucas Digne own goal in the 64th minute, the defender blocking the ball into the net from 20 yards out.
Gylfi Sigurdsson got one back for Everton in stoppage-time.
Diogo Jota’s hat-trick piled pressure on Leicester manager Claude Puel as the Wolves midfielder’s last-gasp strike secured a thrilling 4-3 win.
Bournemouth beat West Ham 2-0 with goals from Callum Wilson and Josh King, while Watford drew 0-0 against Burnley.

World Politics / ‘we Have Been Ruled Not Led For The Past 50 Years’ – Durotoye. by jamslek(m): 11:04 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The presidential candidate of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), Mr Fela Durotoye, says the reason Nigeria has not been able to attain her full potential is because the nation has been ruled for the past 50 years rather than being led.
Durotoye stated this on Saturday during the NEDG/BON presidential debate at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
He said, “Why haven’t we fulfilled our nation’s potentials? Because we have been ruled and not led for the last 50 odd years” adding, “Rulers suppress the potentials of others whereas leaders support those people to release their potentials.”
Durotoye explained that he got into the race because of his zeal to serve the people of the country.
The ANN presidential candidate said he is a leadership expert that has helped others to discover their potentials.

When asked why he is running for the highest office in the land, he explained that the nation’s leaders over the years have failed the masses.

Entertainment / Ladies, Check Out The 6 Make-up Trends You Have To Ditch In 2019. by jamslek(m): 10:59 pm On 1 Jan 2019
2018 has come and gone. It was dominated by make-up trends from glitters to waving eyebrows and sharp bronzer and the likes. In 2019, there are make-up trends we should ditch and these include:
1. Waving eyebrows
They are hard to pull off for an everyday look, they do not compliment any shape of face.
2. Glitters and highlighters
If you are guilty of using eye shadows as highlighters or bronzers, then you are already busted, let it go. Over highlighting your face ruins that natural glow.
3. Uneven foundation
Buy a foundation that is exactly your shade. It is not nice if your face has a different colour to your body.
4. Over-the-top nails
We are definitely ditching these nail designs in 2019. This year, we are sticking to normal looking and beautiful nails.
5. Glitters Eyeshadows
Extremely shiny and heavy eyes should be chucked out in 2019,remember less is more.
6. Extreme contouring
If you are not a professional makeup artist, then you should probably take a back sit when it comes to contouring. Over pointed noses and extremely sharp jaws is in no-no.

World Politics / We Cannot Fix The Economy If We Don’t Fix Our Politics – Moghalu by jamslek(m): 10:56 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Professor Kingsley Moghalu, says the Nigeria’s political system must be fixed before its economy can experience any significant improvement.
He stated this at the NEDG/BON presidential debate currently holding at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
“Let’s first understand that we cannot fix the economy if we don’t fix our politics,” Moghalu said.
“Our economy can never grow for as long as we are led by the incompetent, visionless, and recycled and arrogant old politicians that have run this country’s economy into the ground and are seeking another four years of poverty for us.”
READ ALSO : ‘We Have Been Ruled Not Led For The Past 50 Years’ – Durotoye
The YPP candidate stressed the need for Nigerians to elect a president who understands how to manage the economy.
He further highlighted some of the strategies he plans to use in fixing the nation’s economy to improve the standard of living of the people.
According to Moghalu, the problem the nation must solve is that it does not have an economic policy.
He said the nation has to realise that it needs to decide whether it is a capitalist or socialist country and the type of capitalism it is practicing if that is the case.
“My approach to the Nigerian economy is first of all to focus on reforming the educational system, to ensure that our young people have the skills that can make them competitive in the 21st century and the skills that can give them jobs or help them to set up their own jobs,” the YPP candidate state.
He added that there are plans by his administration to ensure the youths have access to finance through “N1trillion venture capital fund” which would provide equity capital for them.

World Politics / Atiku Departs Us,head To Abuja For Presidential Debate by jamslek(m): 03:46 pm On 1 Jan 2019
- PDP's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has departed US after his two-day visit
- Report has it that he would land in Abuja ahead of the presidential debate holding in the nation's capital today, Saturday, January 19
- Atiku's aide, Kassim Afegbua, had earlier said that his principal would attend the debate if President Muhammadu Buhari is ready to participate
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has departed from the United States of America after a two-day visit.
The Cable reports that he is expected to land in Abuja, the nation’s capital, for the televised presidential debate scheduled for 7pm Nigerian time.
Legit.ng gathered that the debate is between the leading presidential candidates. It is not clear if President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), would be in attendance.

Atiku left the US after holding a town hall meeting with Nigerians in Washington DC.
The publisher of The Boss newspaper, Chief Dele Momodu, in a tweet on Saturday, January 19, confirmed that the former vice president has left U.S for Nigeria ahead of the presidential debate.
He said: "We are told that the PDP Flagbearer’s return is to enable him attend the much-hyped Presidential Debate holding today in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. As well as show that he is fit and mentally prepared for the job of running Africa’s most populous country."
The minister of information, Lai Mohammed, on Friday, January 18, said Atiku would be grilled upon his return to the country.
The federal government has accused him of playing a part in the collapse of former Bank PHB.
Mohammed said there is evidence that Atiku benefitted N156 million from slush funds that led to the collapse of the bank.
“Any time Abubakar returns home, he has questions to answer following the fresh evidence that we have that he benefitted from slush funds that led to the collapse of the former Bank PHB,”
he had said.
It would be recalled that when Atiku returned from his Dubai trip in November 2018, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) searched his jet.
A combined security team of DSS operatives, officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) had combed the jet for foreign currencies.
