The massive influx of about 30,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) into Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, amid latest Boko Haram attacks have brought about an increase in the population density of four IDPs camps.
The development has sparked food and shelter crises.
In the wake of the resurgence in terrorists’ activities by ISWAP members, which have claimed several lives, more displaced persons are expected at the camps in the coming day and weeks.
According to PRNigeria, Gubio camp with 23,687 IDPs, recently admitted 4,291 persons; the Teacher Village camp with 28,644 IDPs is increasing on a daily basis; the Stadium camp too is getting overcrowded, while the Madinatu camp got 1,922 new persons in the last few days.
Meanwhile, as part of helping to cushion the hardship faced by the IDPs, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is set to give basic provision items and cash support of N20,000 to each family head, drawn from about 13,000 households.
Also, more than 3,000 households will receive food items that will cover them for 90 days, until more humanitarian and donor agencies take over the job of providing them aids.
The Red Cross is equally planning to provide emergency shelters to about 10,000 households in one of the camps, just as it will build over 200 latrines at the Stadium IDPs camp.
Already, ICRC, in collaboration with the Borno State government, has built a gigantic water plant to supply water to about 200,000 people in Maiduguri.
PRNigeria gathered that ICRC spent more than $3.5 million on the water plant one of the biggest in the world.
The facility, which is called Alhamduri water project, will supply water to IDPs at the Stadium camp after it has been connected with pipes.

Reality TV show, Big Brother Nigeria, is set to organise the 2019 edition of the popular programme.
Nigerians all over the world were glued to their TV screens in the past just to catch a glimpse of their favourite housemates and even spent huge amounts to vote for the contestant they wanted to emerge as winner.
Despite the fact that there can only be one winner, the show helped create a good platform for former contestants and some of them have made good use of the opportunity.
In the past, the programme gained criticism for taking place in South Africa despite it being tagged a Nigerian show. But things would be a bit different in the 2019 edition.
It has been gathered that the reality show is going to take place in Nigeria and auditions are to hold on the first and second of February.
This would enable new stars grace TV screens as they jostle for the top spot.
The auditions as announced by DSTV will hold on Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 in eight locations across Nigeria, an increase from previous editions.
Candidates are expected to be 21 years and above, and report to audition centres with valid international passports.

More problems for R&B legend, R Kelly.

Sony and R. Kelly have agreed to part ways, sources tell Billboard. The news comes on the heels of the Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly, which detailed allegations of s*xual misconduct against the singer.
Reps for Sony and R. Kelly could not be immediately reached. Kelly has also now been removed from the RCA website.
Kelly had been signed to Jive since the beginning of his career in the early 1990s, and when Jive became part of Sony BMG, he became part of the Sony umbrella. He has been under contract at RCA, a Sony subsidiary, since 2012.
