Sports / David Luiz Set To Sign Chelsea Extension by ojoolamide18: 03:03 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Earlier rumors had the 31-year-old’s representatives demanding multiple years and/or appropriate financial compensation to account for the reduced length. It’s not revealed whether Chelsea relented on any of those demands (except the contract length one), but the important part is that the deal appears to be done and David Luiz is set to sign.
David Luiz, the more mature calm edition, has been a key player for Sarri since day one, and the Chelsea head coach has spoken many times about his hope that a new contract extension can be agreed for the curly haired one who’s become known (again) for his tremendous long-ball distribution from the back.

Sports / Lionel Messi;the Eager Alien by ojoolamide18: 07:16 pm On 1 Jan 2019
name that everyone should be heard of, even ones who don’t watch football.

By the age of 16, Messi made his first appearance for the FC Barcelona. He put himself in the record books on May 1, 2005, as the youngest player to ever score a goal for the franchise. That same year, he led Argentina to the title in the under-20 World Cup, scoring on a pair of penalty kicks to propel the team over Nigeria.

Messi steered Barcelona to a wealth of success, most notably in 2009, when the left-footer’s team captured the Champions League, La Liga, and Spanish Super Cup titles. That same year, after two consecutive runner-up finishes, he took home his first FIFA “World Player of the Year” honor/Ballon d’Or award.

Even the great Maradona gushed about his fellow countryman. “I see him as very similar to me,” the retired player told the BBC. “He’s a leader and is offering lessons in beautiful football. He has something different than any other player in the world.”

Amazingly, the soccer wizard continued to improve, discovering new ways to elude defenders while leading Barcelona to La Liga and Spanish Super Cup championships in 2010 and 2011, as well as the ’11 Champions League title.

Messi embarked on an all-out assault on the record books in 2012. He became the first player to score five goals in a Champions League match in early March, and a few weeks later he surpassed Cesar Rodriguez’s club-record 232 goals to become Barcelona’s all-time leading scorer. By the end of 2012, Messi had accumulated an astounding 91 goals in club and international play, eclipsing the 85 netted in a single calendar year by Gerd Muller in 1972. Fittingly, he broke another record when he was named the FIFA Ballon d’Or winner for the fourth time in January 2013.

The soccer great came back to earth somewhat that year due to the persistence of hamstring injuries, but he regained his record-breaking form by becoming the all-time leading scorer in La Liga and Champions League play in late 2014. After helping Barcelona achieve a historic second treble in 2015, he was honored with his fifth FIFA Ballon d’Or trophy.

Sports / Chelsea Could Complete Signing Of Their Own Mohamed Salah by ojoolamide18: 05:27 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Chelsea currently look the busiest team in the January transfer market. There is a lot of transfer gossip going on around the London club with recent links with Higuain, Paredes and Barella. On the other hand, it looks quite likely that their 18-year-old wonderkid Hudson Odoi will be on his way to Munich quite soon. This is a huge blow for Chelsea as their other two wingers are already beyond 30 years of age and look inconsistent at this moment in time.

Sports / Massimiliano Allegri Reveals Reason Behind Cristiano Ronaldo Signing Following Supercoppa Win by ojoolamide18: 06:23 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has claimed that the Bianconeri signed Cristiano Ronaldo to give the side a more clinical dimension, following La Vecchia Signora's Supercoppa Italiana victory against Milan in Jeddah.
The Portuguese forward headed home in the 61st minute what proved to be the winner between the two sides, as the Rossoneri were reduced to ten men with Franck Kessié seeing red for a high challenge on substitute Emre Can.
The goal was the former Real Madrid talisman's 16th of the campaign in all competitions and his eighth in his last seven finals, and Allegri indicated the £105m acquisition was as a result of the 33-year-old's tendency to perform in momentous occasions.
As quoted by Football Italia , Allegri told Rai Sport: "We signed Cristiano Ronaldo because he is decisive and scores big goals, but the whole team put in a good performance."
Juve weren't at their best in the opening ten minutes of the game, which was evenly contested in nature, but had gone close through Douglas Costa , João Cancelo and Ronaldo.
They were fortunate, however, not to have gone behind in the early stages of the second half, as Patrick Cutrone struck the bar with a fierce effort on the turn. However, Ronaldo's header from Miralem Pjanić's pin-point cross ultimately gave the Turin outfit the deserved win , and clinched a record eighth Supercoppa title for the side.

The Portugal forward nodded in Miralem Pjanic's lofted pass in the second half to settle a meeting between Italian football's two most successful clubs.
It was Ronaldo's 16th goal of the season for the Serie A leaders.
Patrick Cutrone hit the crossbar for Milan, who had Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie sent off.
Gonzalo Higuain, reportedly the subject of interest from Chelsea, was introduced as a substitute by Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso in Italy's version of the Community Shield.
But the 31-year-old Argentina forward, who is currently on loan from Juventus, was unable to deliver an equalising goal for the Rossoneri, who were beaten 4-0 by Juve in the Coppa Italia final in May.

The Blues are hoping to bring in some new players this month. Higuain, Hudson-Odoi, Hazard – How Sarri’s Chelsea side could line up after the transfer window.  It promises to be a busy few weeks at Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer deadline.

The Blues have already splashed the cash to land Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic in a £57.6million deal, although they have agreed that he can spend the remainder of the season with the Bundesliga leaders.

A new midfielder looks to be on the cards with Cesc Fabregas set to complete his move to Monaco in the coming days, while a new striker is also on the agenda given Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud’s struggles in front of goal. Gonzalo Higuain has been heavily linked with a move to west London to reunite with Sarri following their time together at Napoli, with Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson also another option for the FA Cup holders.

So how will the team line up against Huddesrfield Town in the first game after the transfer window slams shut?

Man City absolutely steamrollered past Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg - bagging nine goals at the Etihad ahead of the return leg at the Pirelli Stadium.
And whether the Blues were right to keep pushing and pushing is the topic of discussion in the latest Talking City podcast. Host Arash Bahrami is joined by MEN football writers Simon Bajkowski and Tyrone Marshall to debate whether or not it was disrespectful for City to not take the foot of the gas in the game.
Reaction on social media after the game was debated arguably as much as the action on the field, and the panel go over that, whilst reflecting on what was possibly one of the biggest mismatches ever in cup semi-final history.
Arash, Simon and Tyrone also analyse the season Gabriel Jesus has had so far and take a look at how Kevin De Bruyne is faring up, as well as all the build-up for the next few games - and how Pep Guardiola's men will take on the rest of the season.
