Religion / Prayer by Peazalo: 11:13 pm On 1 Jan 2019
It’s tragic how easily we can miss the
main ingredient in effective prayer.
In our sin, we’ve been rewired to
focus on us — on the steps we should
take for our prayers to be heard. We
have this bent toward believing that
every result is born from method. If
something works for somebody, we
want to know what that somebody is
doing.
We’ve developed the assumption that
if we can just strip it all down to a
reproducible process to put into
action, then the results will multiply.
While this applies to certain things, it
doesn’t apply to prayer — or at least
that’s not the vision the apostle James
gives us. The main ingredient in
effective prayer is emphatically not us.
Many of us find James 5:16 to be a
familiar verse: “The prayer of a
righteous person has great power as it
is working” — which is also translated,
as an ESV footnote spells out, “The
effective prayer of a righteous person
has great power.”
This is one of those coffee-mug verses.
It’s commonly understood like this: Be
righteous, and your prayers will work.
It’s what I used to think. But that’s the
skim-milk meaning. It’s what happens
when we fly by the text without
questions. Our broken bent is to make
the burden of this passage something
to do with us. We simply settle to think
that, if we want our prayers to be
effective, then we need to be
righteous.
But this reading doesn’t hold up.
First, look at the context surrounding
James 5:16 . James’s whole point is that
prayer is effective. He asks in
James 5:13 , “Is anyone among you
suffering?” Then he replies, “Let him
pray.” What about cheerfulness? Or
sickness? Or sin? In each case, James
encourages his readers to pray. Why?
Because prayer is effective, which
means, God hears his people and acts
on their behalf.
Then, in the beginning of verse 16,
because prayer is effective
(James 5:13–15 ), he says, “Therefore,
confess your sins to one another and
pray for one another, that you may be
healed” (James 5:16 ). To make it even
clearer, he follows this with, “The
effective prayer of a righteous person
has great power.” That line is the
second portion in a double dose of
support for our praying. James’s point
is to repeat his theme to pray because
prayer is effective. His concern is not
how prayer is made effective, but that
prayer is effective. And then verse 17
comes to ground that point.
James 5:17 then brings in Elijah.
“Elijah was a man with a nature like
ours, and he prayed fervently.”
What does Elijah have to do with our
praying? Does it mean that Elijah was
righteous and his prayers worked, so
we should be like Elijah for our
prayers to work too? Is that what he is
saying?
No way.
Look at the book. James says that
Elijah was a man with a nature like
ours. He was just a man. He was like
us. He had a nature like ours. And
being just a man, being like us, having
a nature like ours, he prayed fervently
and God heard. The point is not that
we should be righteous at the
extraordinary level of an Elijah, but
that he was normal like you and me.
James doesn’t say for us to be like
Elijah for our prayers to be answered,
but that Elijah was like us and his
prayers were answered — therefore,
pray.
This means that the locus of effective
prayer is not us, but God. Prayer has
less to do with the specifics of how we
say what we say, and more to do with
the one to whom we are saying it.
We pray as ordinary people who have
an extraordinary God. We’re just
normal, you and I. We’re just normal
like Elijah. Prayer is effective, not
because of great men who pray, but
because of a great God who in Christ
graciously hears his people.
He’s the main ingredient. So, pray.

MEET WILLIAM TYNDALE ~ the man who translated the Bible into English & was burnt alive

Nearly 500 years ago, this week, William Tyndale, fondly called 'Father of the English Bible' was strangled and burned at the stake after being tried and convicted of heresy and treason for translating the Bible into English.

WHAT WAS TYNDALE'S OFFENSE?

He translated the Greek Bible into English. Simple.

That you have a Bible in a language you can read is largely due to his labors, and many of the very phrases you read in it retain the flavor of his understanding of the Greek and Hebrew.

A graduate of Oxford and Cambridge, Tyndale had a burning desire to make the Bible available to even the
common people in England, in order to correct the 'Biblical ignorance of the priests'. At one point Tyndale told a priest, "If God spares my life, ere many years pass, I will cause a boy that driveth the plow shall know more of the Scriptures than thou dost."

Today, 90% of the King James Version of the Holy Bible and 75% of the Revised Standard Version are from the translation made by Tyndale, a man to whom you owe more than you'll ever know.

TYNDALE'S WORK WAS 'ILLEGAL'!

It was a nice dream, but how was Tyndale to accomplish his task when translating the Bible into English was 'illegal'?

He went to London to ask Bishop Tunstall if he could be authorized to make an English translation of the Bible, but the Bishop would not grant his approval.

However, Tyndale would not let the disapproval of men stop him from carrying out what seemed so obviously God's will. With encouragement and support of some British merchants, he decided to go to Europe to complete his translation, then have it printed and
smuggled back into England.

In 1524 Tyndale sailed for Germany. In Hamburg, he worked on the New Testament, and in Cologne, he found a printer who would print the work. However, news of Tyndale's activity came to an opponent of the Reformation who had the press raided.

Tyndale himself managed to escape with the pages already printed and made his way to the German city Worms where the New Testament was soon published.

Six thousand copies were printed and smuggled into England.

The Bishops did everything they could to eradicate the Bibles. Bishop Tunstall had copies ceremoniously burned at St. Paul's; the Archbishop of Canterbury bought up copies to destroy them. Tyndale used the money to print improved editions!

Tyndale continued hiding among the merchants in Antwerp and began translating the Old Testament while the King's agents searched all over England and Europe for him.

WHO CONDEMNED TYNDALE TO DEATH!

A copy of Tyndale's The Obedience of a Christian Man fell into the hands of Henry VIII, providing the king with the rationale to break the Church in England from the Roman Catholic Church in 1534. In 1535, Tyndale was arrested and jailed in the castle of Vilvoorde (Filford) outside Brussels for over a year.

Tyndale’s work was denounced by authorities of the Roman Catholic Church and Tyndale himself was accused of heresy.

HOW DID TYNDALE DIE?

Tyndale, 42 was finally found by an Englishman who pretended to be his friend but then turned him over to the authorities. After a year and a half in prison, he was brought to trial for heresy -- FOR BELIEVING, among other things, IN THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS and that THE MERCY OFFERED IN THE GOSPEL WAS ENOUGH FOR SALVATION. In August 1536, he was condemned and was executed [burned alive at the stake] publicly on October 6, 1536, in a small town in Belgium.

TYNDALE'S LAST WORDS!

As he burnt to death, Tyndale reportedly said "Lord, open the king of England's eyes."

WAS HIS PRAYER ANSWERED?

YES! The prayer was answered first in part when three years later, in 1539, Henry VIII required every parish church in England to make a copy of the English Bible available to its parishioners. Today, Tyndale's prayer is fully answered, not only are the King's eyes opened, but the Bible a universal instrument.

RECOGNITIONS & AWARDS!

* In 1611, the 54 scholars who produced the King James Bible drew significantly from Tyndale, as well as from translations that descended from his.

* One estimate suggests that the New Testament in the King James Version is 83% Tyndale's and the Old Testament 76%.

* His translation of the Bible was the first to be printed in English, and became a model for subsequent English translations.

* In 2002, Tyndale was placed at number 26 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons.

Copied
A very important and interesting piece of history worth knowing.

Religion / Self Control by Peazalo: 05:54 pm On 1 Jan 2019
I was in the market with Mom buying a lace material for my wedding.
She was busy getting what I didn't like (her choice). She was also telling me that I am going to be tying wrapper 😂😂(says who??).
While we were chatting and laughing, she stepped on a slay queen. A foolish girl without home training (27-28yrs single I guessed).
The lady pushed my mother and she fell. I quickly ran to help her up. And I asked her if she was fine. She smiled replying, 'Yes dear'.
The anger in me gave me strength and I wanted to go and fight for my mother. I wanted to teach the girl a lesson. But suddenly my mom held my hands and she looked straight into my eyes and said to me, 'Don't fight, don't even quarrel or exchange words'. She may be sick and she may be looking for who will bury her.
I didn't want to to disobey my mom in public so I calm down but was restless.
She walked up to the slay queen and said to her, 'My daughter, I'm sorry it wasn't intentional'.

The slay queen couldn't hold her tears she answered, 'Mama, I'm sorry. I'm just battling with my temperament'.
My mum smiled and said, 'I forgave you even before now'.

Members of the public rained abuses on her. It was my mom that stopped them and she left.

My mom then looked at me and said, 'Sommy, it's not all the time you fight and it's not all things you react to. Two wrongs cannot make a right'.

Recently, I saw the same lady's obituary. I told my mom what I saw. She smiled and said; ' Go and thank your God that you didn't hit or threaten her, you would have been paying for what you didn't know'. She continued, 'Even in your relationship, it's not everything you react to. Never fight with your partner, or else you might loose'.

Listen everyone!
It's not every comment you follow up or reply. It's not everything your partner does that you pick offence with and/or revenge. It's not everything people say you give answers to.
In fact explaining yourself to people is not necessary.
Some people are just walking corpse looking for who to bury them. Be careful.
Some people have very bad temperament, help them out by avoiding them.

It takes grace to over look.
When you fight, it does not mean you are strong; it only shows you are weak.

Thanks to my mother, my super mentor.
Let us mentor your children wisely

Religion / A True Christian by Peazalo: 02:09 pm On 1 Jan 2019
A true christian is tested by the way HE/she faces HIS/her situation, trials, and temptation around HIM/her. our faith lives need to be tested and temptation, affliction, sickness etc are the examination we must take that will separate impurity in us,strengthen us and inculcate GOD'S character in us;hence, they are not there to kill or devour us but promoting us to the next level spiritually and physically which may be financial breakthrough, miracle, good health etc. Sin easily hides when there is no trial or temptation i.e one might be prayer, have love, trust and faith in GOD as a mere Christian, but a true christian is proven when one overcomes such temptation and trial when they come. For example,in times of prosperity and success a stingy man seems to be generous and a wicked man seems to be kind and good. And also in times of prosperity, success and love in the family a cheating wife or husband seems to be faithful, loving and submissive but when there is temptation and trial, when HE or she is not longer lovable ,pretty anymore, crushed financially etc HE or she flirts and become unlovable. Sometimes, what we see as an disadvantage can turn out to be an advantage take Soul as an example that was converted to Paul and his conversion brought many souls to GOD. Honesty eradicates sin ,gives room for repentance and for grace to be activated and used while lies hide sin ,yield more sin and doesn't give room for repentance and grace. Honesty is one of the ingredients of trust while lies kill and eradicate it. Have a blessed day, and remember spiritual and physical growth is the function of obedience.

*Asset vs Liability*

Son: Dad, may I speak with you?
Dad: Go ahead.
Son: Among all my classmates, I am the only one without a car. It is embarrassing.
Dad: What do you want me to do?
Son: I need a car. I don't want to feel odd.
Dad: Do you have a particular car in mind?
Son: Yes dad (smiling)
Dad: How much?
Son:Rs 500000
Dad: I will give you the money on one condition.
Son: What is the condition?
Dad: You will not use the money to buy a car but invest it. If you make enough profit from the investment, you can go ahead and buy the car.
Son: Deal.

Then, the father gave him a cheque of Rs500000. The son cashed the cheque and invested it in obedience to the verbal agreement that he had with his father.

Some months later, the father asked the son how he was faring. The son responded that his business was improving. The father left him.

After some months again, the father asked him about his business
again and the son told him that he is making a lot of profit from the business.

When it was exactly a year after he gave him the money, the father asked him to show him how far the business has gone. The son readily agreed and the following discussion took place:

Dad: From this I can see that you have made a lot of money.
Son: _Yes dad. _
Dad: Do you still remember our agreement?
Son: Yes
Dad: What is it?
Son: We agreed that I should invest the money and buy the car from the profit.
Dad: Why have you not bought the car?
Son: I don't need the car again. I want to invest more.
Dad: Good. You have learnt the lessons that I wanted to teach you.
- You didn't really need the car, you just wanted to feel among. That would have placed extra financial obligations on you. It wasn't an asset then; but a liability.
- Two, it is very important for you to invest in your future before living like a king.
Son: Thanks dad.

Then the father gave him the keys of the latest model of that car.

*MORALS:*
1. Always invest first before you start living the way you want.

2. What you see as a need now may become a want if you can take a little time to get over your feelings.

3. Try to be able to distinguish between an asset and a liability so that what you see as an asset today will not become a liability to you tomorrow.
