Entertainment / Gucci Mane's Baby Mama Calls Him Out After Spending N365 Millon On Wedding by Truevine: 01:40 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Gucci Mane and his baby mama, Sheena Evans
are in a serious battle after she sued him with
demands for an increase in child support.
While Gucci has been trying to get the case
thrown out of court, Evans is insistent that he
increases the child support case to $2,000
(N726,000).
She alleges that she is living in welfare with her
son, Keitheon meanwhile Mane is getting millions
of dollars.
It should be recalled that in her original
submission to the court, she alleged that his
income had increased since his release from
prison. To back her claim, she noted that he has
been putting up luxurious photos and spent a
large sum on his wedding which she said cost
him $1M (N365 million).
She also stated that if he can spend such, he can
afford $2000.
However, the rapper insists that his income has
not improved and he is paying for his child’s
health insurance.

World Politics / Al-makura Reacts To Buhari’s Selection Of New Ig Of Police From Nasarawa by Truevine: 01:36 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Gov. Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State has
expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu
Buhari for appointing Mr Mohammed Adamu, an
indigene of the state, as the acting Inspector-
General of Police (I-G).
Al-Makura, who spoke with State House
correspondents on Friday at the Presidential Villa,
said that Adamu’s appointment was based on his
professional track record.
“On behalf of myself, government and people of
Nasarawa State, I will like to sincerely thank Mr
President for considering a citizen of Nasarawa
State worthy of occupying this important position
of the I-G of the Nigeria Police.
“I congratulate him and I believe that the
appointment is based on his capacity and
professional pedigree.
“Adamu is someone I have known right from
childhood in Lafia and all his life in the police
force; he has exhibited tremendous amount of
professionalism and commitment to his
responsibilities.
“I believe that he will bring excellence that he has
gathered over time to ensure that he puts the
police in the right state and also give this nation
a proper and most professional leadership of the
police for everyone to be happy with the police,’’
he said.
He said that the new I-G had a substantial
burden on his shoulders as within the next one
month, he would embark on a difficult exercise.
The governor said, however, that his consolation
lied in the fact that Adamu was someone whose
commitment and loyalty to service was not in
question.
He said he believed Adamu would bring to bear
this pedigree to ensure that he put the
professional focus of his job to satisfy all and
sundry, both the government, opposition, and all
ordinary men.
According to him, the acting I-G should make
sure that whatever decision he took would be in
the best interest everybody and everybody would
be convinced.

Sports / ‘just Getting Started’, Serena Says As She Marches Into Last 16 Of Australian Open by Truevine: 01:28 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Serena Williams has said there is more to offer
as she marched into the Australian Open last 16
Saturday.
Williams said she was still improving after
swatting aside Ukrainian teenager Dayana
Yastremska 6-2, 6-1 in a Melbourne Park
mauling.
The 37-year-old, who is in the hunt for her first
Grand Slam since having a baby, comforted the
youngster at the net, telling her: “You did
amazing, you’re gonna make it, don’t cry”.
But Williams, who is in ominous form and has
dropped only nine games in her opening three
matches, also had a message for her rivals,
saying she was not yet at the top of her game.
“I think I’m getting there. I don’t feel like I’m
there yet,” she said. “I feel like I’m still getting
there.”
Williams will face either sister Venus, who is
unseeded this year, or world number one Simona
Halep in the next round.
The 37-year-old won her 23rd Grand Slam Down
Under two years ago while two months pregnant
and is the bookies’ favourite to claim an eighth
Australian title, despite being seeded 16th.
Another major would match Margaret Court’s
tally and Williams is focused as she chases down
the Australian great’s record.
“I’m here, I’m playing as hard as I can and doing
the best I can, which is really all I can do,” she
said.
‘Broke my heart’
Yastremska was not even born when the
American won her first major at Flushing
Meadows in 1999.
Williams said she did not like to see an opponent
so distressed but she appreciated that
Yastremska cared so much about trying to win
their match and “came out swinging”.
“I kind of liked that. It shows she wasn’t just
there to play a good match, she was there to
win,” the American said. “She wanted to win.
That really broke my heart.”
Her compassion contrasted with Maria
Sharapova’s attitude when she left Harriet Dart in
tears after serving the Briton a 6-0, 6-0 “double
bagel” in the first round.
“There’s no time for that, I’m sorry to say,” the
Russian responded when asked if she had any
sympathy for her opponent.
Yastremska’s only previous appearance at a
Grand Slam was a first round exit at last year’s
US Open and she looked like roadkill as soon as
Williams raced to a 4-0 lead in the first set.
The Ukrainian managed to hold serve twice in the
first set, prompting wild applause from the crowd
but was powerless to stop Williams taking the
first set 6-2 after 27 minutes.
Williams was equally relentless in the second,
breaking Yastremska and allowing the teen to
score only four points off her serve as she went
up 4-1.
Yastremska had treatment on her right foot but it
was only delaying the inevitable and Williams
took just a few minutes to bring up match point
after play resumed.
She hit her first chance into the net but
completed the win after Yastremska sent a return
wide.

Business/Investments / Naptip To Rescue 20,000 Nigerian Girls Trafficked To Mali-dg by Truevine: 01:24 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The National Agency for the Prohibition of
Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) says it is making
efforts to rescue about 20,000 Nigerian girls
trapped in different parts of Mali.
Mrs Julie Okah-Donli, the Director- General of
NAPTIP, who made this known in an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on
Saturday in Abuja, said the victims were trapped
in different parts of Mali, for prostitution.
Okah-Donli said that the trafficked victims were
discovered after NAPTIP sent a fact-finding
mission to Mali last December, following some
security reports.
She said:”We sent a fact-finding mission to Mali
last month and the mission came with a report
that, about 20,000 Nigerian girls had been
trafficked to different parts of Mali.
How WOTCLEF supported 10,600 trafficked
victims
“Many of the girls said that they were deceived
that, they were being taken to ” “Malisia”, making
it sound like Malaysia, to work in hotels,
restaurants, hairdressing salons and some other
jobs.
“Some of the girls arrived there in their school
uniforms, meaning that they were kidnapped on
their way to or from school,” she said.
The NAPTIP boss decried the living condition of
trafficked Nigerians in the West African country,
adding that some of the girls were sold for N600,
000 and were made to service, mainly miners.
“There are over one million Nigerians residents in
Mali, out of which about 20,000 are trapped into
forced prostitution.
“The conditions are horrible; they are kept in
shanties in the thick of the forest where they
cannot escape and with the “madames” watching
over them.
“Their job, mainly, is to service miners from other
parts of Africa who are predominant in Northern
Mali.
“They are bought for N600, 000 and they are
made to pay back N1.8million or N2million within
six months before regaining freedom and also
becoming madams.”
She assured that the Nigerian authorities were
collaborating with their Malian counter parts as
well as the International Organisation for
Migration (IOM), to rescue and rehabilitate the
victims, most of whom were eager to return.
“Most of the girls are desirous of returning home
and we are working with the IOM, the Malian
government and the Nigerian Embassy in Mali to
see how we can repatriate them.
“Our plan is to rehabilitate them immediately they
return home, we will have rehabilitation
programme on ground before they are
repatriated.”
Donli-Okah further decried the fact that human
trafficking increased by 500 girls daily, while
urging Nigerians to be more vigilant.
“Trafficking increases by at least, 500 girls daily,
they bring them in their hundreds and now, they
waybill them through well known motor parks in
Cotonou.
“It also cuts across all 36 states of Nigeria and
happens all over the world. It is no longer about
the Edo girls being trafficked to Italy.
“I urge Nigerians to be alert and sensitive about
their surroundings; they should report suspicious
movements to the authorities, especially at our
border posts.” (NAN)

Entertainment / He Does Not Go To Church And I'm Bothered - Rapper, Falz's Mother Reveals by Truevine: 12:30 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Popular Nigerian singer, Falz, recently released
his much-anticipated album, ‘Moral Instruction,’
which is a body of work that sheds light on the
social ills in the country. Amongst the guests
present during his album listening party were his
parents, Femi and Funmi Falana.
Saturday Punch reveals that during the event, his
mother used the opportunity to express her
concern about the fact that her son hardly goes
to church. While holding the microphone to speak
about his new album, she said, “Folarin, you
don’t go to church and I am bothered. I hope you
would start going to church this year.”
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the singer said his
mother was right because he hardly went to
church; however, he gave his reasons.
“I have nothing against the church or going to
church; everyone has the right to practise the
religion they desire but personally, as a Christian,
it has been a while that I have been to church. It
does not make me less of a Christian.
“The most important thing is spirituality and your
personal connection with God. The reason I
haven’t attended a church service in a long while
is because I went to a few churches and during
sermons, I was put under undue pressure. There
was a time that a pastor called me to the altar
just to acknowledge my presence for being in
church.
“In my mind, I felt that the service was not about
me. I felt that everybody was there to worship
God, yet they were putting undue pressure on me.
The pastor gave me the microphone to address
the congregation and I was puzzled; what did he
expect me to say to the congregation? These are
some of the issues. I just want to go to church
and worship God like a regular member of the
congregation. I do not want that kind of
attention. I was hoping that I would go to church
on a Sunday and it would not be like any other
day I’m at a public place or doing a show,” the
singer said.
The rap artiste, whose signature was his full
beard, shocked his fans when he shaved it off.
Speaking on why he shaved off his trademark, the
rap artiste turned actor said, “I did not shave my
beard because of the album; it was just a
coincidence. I was filming a project in relation to
the album and I had to look a lot younger and
that is why I shaved off my beard.
“I have been getting mixed reactions since I
shaved my beard; some people tell me, ‘please,
go and find our beard back’. I did not know that
we owned the beard together. Other people told
me that they love the new look and I am still a
‘sweet boy’ with or without the beard.”
He further commented on his new project, Moral
Instruction, while saying he did not mock the
Muslim Rights Concern in his new album.
“I did not mock MURIC in the song – Talk am – I
just said that ‘Broda Muri shout finish, we no see
am for court’. Whoever the shoe fits should wear
it. What I said was, ‘Broda Muri’, I did not
mention anybody’s name; I could have been
talking about anybody.
“It took me a while to make this socially
conscious album. I have been working on this
project since 2017. We had the idea to produce
the album, which was to talk about the social
vices in the country, but we were waiting for the
right mood and time to release it. This year,
everything just worked perfectly for us and I think
it is very necessary we do this now,” Falz said.

Religion / Let's Totally Obey His Word. by Truevine: 12:10 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the Law of the LORD.
Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways. You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your command.
Vs 11- I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Religion / Prove Of Points by Truevine: 11:45 am On 1 Jan 2019
Title-PROVE OF POINTS
Joshua 1 vs 8- DO NOT LET THIS BOOK OF THE LAW DEPART FROM YOUR MOUTH, MEDITATE ON IT DAY AND NIGHT, SO THAT YOU MAY BE CAREFUL TO DO EVERYTHING WRITTEN IN IT. THEN YOU WILL BE PROSPEROUS AND SUCCESSFUL.
Psalm 119 vs 11-I have hidden your word in my heart that i might not sin against you.
I was in a gathering where people were asked questions and everyone was to say his or her view has the Spirit leads.(If anyone didn't know what to say he or she becomes disqualified. (I pray none of us get disqualified at the end of the race Amen-1Corinthians 9 vs 24-27)
Everyone started talking on what they know has the Spirit leads, when it got to a lady's turn i loved the Bible passage she quoted, she quoted it directly has it is in the Bible. Many many people said they have not heard the Bible verse before, she needs to tell them where it was in the Bible, but unfortunately she did not know where what she quoted was in the Bible. She was disqualified for this. This lady had a very good points but her points was of no use when she couldn't prove to others where it was in the Bible. We might not find ourselves in such gathering but we might be asked questions anywhere we find ourselves sometimes we might not be able to quote it directly but we know where it is and the Bible passage given for such to read at home will be of help and go a long way.
Learn from the life of the Bereans- Acts 17 vs 11,when the word is being taught to us, lets learn to confirm if its from the word or not. I have seen many who quote wrongly and many have digested it,i have seen many people believe in words which they think is Biblical but its not, they stick the word into their life because they hear it from respected people,if you don't read, digest, meditate and keep the word to heart you will only find yourself living by the rules of men. When last have you opened the scripture to know what God has for you daily. Psalm 119 vs 11.
Lets put the words in our heart for our own benefits and that of others-1Corinthians 10 vs 24
May God help us all Amen.

that he was banned from the United States was
‘disinformation’.
Atiku
He spoke on Thursday, after his arrival to the US
capital, where he lodged at Trump International
Hotel.
Here is the transcript of the interview conducted
by VOA’s Aliyu Mustapha Sokoto
VOA: What has been in the news for many years
has come to past right now I’m together with the
former Vice President of Nigeria and the
Presidential flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) after he had just returned from some
interactive session with some high ranking
Congress Men and Women. Your excellency, now
that you have visited Washington D.C, does it
have to do with those who said you cannot come
to the United State of America or the visit is for
what purpose?
How long more can Nigerians wait?
Atiku: Aliyu I told you before that my coming to
the United State is in the hands of Americans if
they decided to issue a Visa to me I will definitely
come and if they refused to give me I cannot
come. And now they have issued it to me and I
am here. I’m having some positive discussions
with some of the officials. I was in the Congress
and I had discussions with some high ranking
Congress men and Women about Nigeria and how
Nigeria intends to improve her relationship with
the United States of America.
VOA: After visiting the Congress, do you intend to
meet with some other people?
Atiku: Yes, by tomorrow (Friday) I will go to the
State Department in order to have vital
discussions with some of their officials.
VOA: Will you also meet with the members of the
United States Chamber of Commerce?
Atiku: Yes, I will meet them tomorrow (Friday) by
the Grace of God.
VOA: Who invited you to the United State?
Atiku: I was invited by many organizations in
United States.
VOA: Before some people are saying that you
cannot come to the United States of America but
now you are here people will stop doubting.
Atiku: The whole thing is about misinformation
Democrat’s impeachment vow ‘disgraceful’ –
Trump
VOA: What do you mean by misinformation?
Atiku: Because for a very long time they have
been lying to them (Nigerians) and they agreed; I
tried to explain to them but they refused to listen.
And I hope now people are going to understand.
VOA: Your coming to America has shown that you
are going to have some interactions with some
top officials of the United State are they in
support of your candidacy?
Atiku: Yes.
VOA: Are you convinced that the United States
Government are in support of your candidacy?
Atiku: There is no doubt because the United State
is ready to support any country that is practicing
democracy.
Bank PHB Collapse: FG slams corruption
allegation against Atiku
VOA: People know you as a businessman; do you
think that your business background and
experience will influence the United States
Government to support you?
Atiku: One good thing is that Nigeria is a country
that is practicing democracy and everyone knows
that we have played a significant role and have
done a lot to sustain democratic governance in
Nigeria and it is very important.

World Politics / Fayose Mocks Buhari As Atiku Visits The U.s by Truevine: 10:16 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State Governor, has
urged President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling
All Progressive Congress (APC) to ensure he
attends the presidential debate slated for
tomorrow.
Presidential debate for candidates of political
parties is billed to hold on January 19.
Mr Fayose, factional head of the South West
campaign organisation of Atiku Abubakar, the
candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
made the call on Friday.
Messrs Buhari and Abubakar are major
contestants in the presidential election scheduled
for February 16. They are expected to participate
in the debate.
There are insinuations in some quarters that the
president who seeks a second term in office will
dodge the debate. As at press time, POLITICS
TIMES could not verify if the APC flag-bearer
would be present at the parley.
“They challenged @atiku to travel to US, he is
there now. We are challenging President Buhari to
come and debate tomorrow, no excuse!” Fayose
tweeted.
Mr Abubakar, a former vice president popularly
known as Atiku on Thursday travelled to the
United States, the first since he left office in 2007.
Since he left office he has been unable to visit the
country, this the All Progressives Congress (APC)
maintained was because of corruption allegations
involving him at the U.S.
Atiku’s visit has rattled the APC-led
adminstration, forcing it to dug out a fresh
corruption allegation against the former number
two citizen.
The government said the former vice president
has issues to clarify on his role on the collapse of
Bank PHB.

World Politics / 'why Atiku Travelled To Usa' – Obi by Truevine: 10:10 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The running mate to Alhaji Abubakar Atiku in
next month’s presidential election, Mr. Peter
Obi, said on Friday that the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer is not in
the USA to prove any point to anyone.
Obi told reporters at the Murtala Muhammed
Airport, Ikeja, that Atiku travelled to
Washington DC because it was necessary for
him to do so.
The former governor of Anambra State
expressed surprise at the dust generated by
Atiku’s trip.
His words: “Though he does over 90% of his
consultations at home and among Nigerians,
now and then, he has to travel to meet
different groups, especially those that will be
of assistance in the new Nigerian project.”
Obi said that Atiku was pre-occupied on
how to create jobs, reduce unemployment in
Nigeria, abolish poverty and re-create the
Nigerian economy in order to make Nigeria
start working again.
He said: “his trip is about engaging partners
because he wants to hit the ground running
without wasting unnecessary time.”

World Politics / Us Lawmaker Tells Nigerian Government What To Do Ahead Of Election. by Truevine: 10:09 pm On 1 Jan 2019
A member of the United States house of
representatives, Chris Smith says the reports of
the harassment of opposition leaders are
extremely concerning, In a resolution to encourage
peaceful elections, Smith appealed to
stakeholders to be committed to peace.
He said the elections are critical to the future of
the country and should therefor be free and fair.
“Reports of President Muhamadu Buhari’s
apparent crackdown on non-violent protests and
harassment of opposition leaders are extremely
concerning, as well as the ongoing violence that
has been perpetrated by extremists, particularly in
the Middle Belt region,” he said.
“The violence must be stopped, along with any
subversion of the electoral process. The Nigerian
government must see to free and fair elections,
which this resolution calls for.”
Karen Bassm, Steve Chabot who co-chairs the
Nigeria caucus, Elliot Engel, chairman of the
house committee on foreign affairs, are among
those serving on the subcommittee on Africa.
“It is in the best interest of the United States to
maintain a strong bilateral relationship with a
politically stable, democratic, and economically
sound Nigeria that can play a leadership role in
the region and the continent more broadly,” Bass
said in a statement.
“A credible, transparent and peaceful election this
coming February would further consolidate
democratic gains achieved over the last two
decades. Nigerians are deeply committed to
democracy and ensuring transparency in electoral
preparations, which would build public confidence
in the electoral process.
“This resolution sends the message that the
people of the United States will continue to stand
with the people of Nigeria in support of peace and
democracy.”
For Engel, this legislation reaffirms US’ long-
standing commitment to strengthening democracy
in Nigeria.
“In 2015, Nigeria became another democratic role
model for countries on the continent, showing
that a credible electoral process could result in
the peaceful transition of power from an
incumbent to the opposition,” he said.
“Regardless of the outcome, my hope for the
upcoming presidential, gubernatorial, and National
Assembly elections is that Nigerian politicians,
citizens, and the electoral commission will build

democracy in Nigeria.”
On his part, Chabot said there is still work to be
done to ensure the elections are transparent,
peaceful, and credible.
He said the resolution lays out the necessary
steps to achieve these goals, and urged Nigeria to
conduct elections free of violence.
On Thursday, the US had raised concern over the
handling of security in the elections.

Sports / Epl: Klopp Gives Injury Update On Alexander- Arnold, Wijnaldum Ahead Of Crystal Palace Clash by Truevine: 10:06 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has said that
defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold might play
against Crystal Palace on Saturday despite
picking up an injury.
It was feared that the 20-year-old would be
sidelined for up to a month, having needed to
strap up his ankle and take painkillers prior to
playing against Brighton last time.
However, Klopp has revealed that both Alexander-
Arnold and fellow injury concern Georginio
Wijnaldum will face late fitness tests.
“Gini and Trent, we will decide day by day. It’s of
course not cool,” Metro UK quoted Klopp as
saying at his pre-match press conference.
“The exceptional part of that story is that they
both played 90 minutes [at Brighton]. The whole
world saw what happened to Trent, what a boy,
unbelievable.
“We played the game and afterwards, we got the
information that he had [an injury].
“Nothing happened during the game, it was all
stable and good.
“It was just what happened before the game;
adrenaline is obviously an interesting thing, it
gives you the opportunity to do a bit more than
you would expect. We will see.
“For both, it will be really, really close for
tomorrow. I don’t want to close any doors before
anybody tells me I have to.”

Sports / Epl: Sarri Gives Latest Update On Higuain’s Transfer Ahead Of Arsenal Clash by Truevine: 09:52 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri, has said the
club’s director, Marina Granovskaia, was “working
very hard” to conclude a deal to sign Gonzalo
Higuain on loan.
The Blues are close to signing Higuain from
Juventus on an initial six-month loan deal, with
an option to buy.
Confirmation of the deal has not come in time for
Higuain to be eligible to feature against Arsenal
on Saturday, but Sarri said he has faith in
Granovskaia’s ability to get it over the line after
suggesting he recommended that Chelsea sign
him at the beginning of January.
“I don’t know [how close it is].
“I want to be clear, because I cannot help you. I
spoke with Marina two weeks ago, so Marina
knows my opinion on how to improve the team.
Then I decided to focus on the pitch, on matches
and training.
“I am confident because I know Marina is working
very hard, but I don’t know the market at all. I
want to be focused on the matches. So I don’t
call her every evening, otherwise I spend all my
mental energy on the market. I think it’s better if
I spend all my mental energies on the pitch. So I
can’t help you. I don’t know,” Sarri said during
his Friday press conference.

Business/Investments / Lasema Ad Hoc Staff Complain Bitterly As They've Not Been Paid Salary Since November by Truevine: 09:46 pm On 1 Jan 2019
LASEMA ad hoc staff are reportedly experiencing
untold hardship having been owed their salaries
since November 2018. To make matters worse,
they are reportedly lacking the basics needed to
carry out their jobs effectively.
LASEMA has a consulting firm called Avantgarde
Management Services (AMS) - the same agency
that managed Vision Scape. AMS manages the
facilities and the staff who are not directly under
the payroll of Lagos State Civil Service. The staff
managed by AMS include; the ad hoc staff
employed by LASEMA and the staff directly
employed by AMS (some LASEMA drivers and call
centre agents).
These LASEMA /LRU operation staff who are on
the payroll of AMS have been owed salary for two
months, a source close to the situation told LIB.
The staff were not paid their October salary until
late December. The salaries for November and
December are still pending and staff are finding it
hard to meet their needs.
According to our source, due to the lack of
remuneration, the ad hoc staff, who make up
almost half of the entire Operation staff of
LASEMA, do not even have money for
transportation and sometimes they are loaned
money by the General Manager, LASEMA.
Our source said these staff are "undergoing untold
hardships", especially as it's a new year and the
beginning of school. So many cannot pay their
children's school fees and this is affecting their
morale. A lot of them have to borrow money to
be able to come to work and fulfil their
responsibilities. Our source added that one of
their staff became mentally ill due to the
pressure.
The source said:
Most of the Adhoc Staff have wives and
children.
Do you know one of the Adhoc Staff even
ran mad some weeks ago? But really, who
would not run mad when you can't pay your
children school fees before exams last term
and now this new term the kids are either at
home or the parent doesnt know how to pay
both last terms fee and the new term's.
Imagine going for emergency opertations
where you would stay for hours without food
in your stomach. These guys have to borrow
money from family and friends for
transportaion and feeding at work.
Asides not being paid, the staff are reportedly
lacking the basics in their bases; such as drinking
water and soaps to wash their hands in the
toilets. The meal tickets they used to receive was
also stopped last year.
While responding to the scene of an emergency,
LRU operation staff witness incidents that leave
them traumatized, yet there is no provision for
therapy or counselling for them.
To make matters worse, the General Manager has
not addressed the issue with the affected staff,
our source said.
As for the staff who are directly on the payroll of
the Lagos State Civil Service, some of them are
paid N17,000 (excluding hazards allowance) as
salary for one whole month. This is not even up
to the minimum wage.
LIB reached out to LASEMA PRO, Mr Kehinde
Adebayo, but he says he cannot comment on the
matter. He added that it is the acting GM Tiamiyu
Adeshina who comments on such issues but he is
not around at the moment.

World Politics / Buhari Has Delivered On Campaign Promises, Deserves Reelection – Adjogbe by Truevine: 09:43 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Executive Director (Projects), Niger Delta
Development Commission, NDDC, Engr. Dr Samuel
Adjogbe, has urged the Urhobo nation, Deltans
and Niger Deltans to vote for President
Muhammadu Buhari and all APC candidates in
the forth coming elections.
Chief Great Ogboru, APC Delta State Guber
Candidate (left) welcoming President
Muhammadu Buhari to Delta State on arrival at
the Osubi Airport for the APC Presidential rally ,
Wednesday.
He stated this while speaking to newsmen during
the APC presidential rally and Delta State
campaign flag off at the Warri Township Stadium
on Thursday, saying that Buhari has delivered on
all campaign promises made in 2015 and
therefore deserves another term in office, to
consolidate on his transformation initiatives.
According to him, “Delta state and indeed the
Niger Delta region, has enjoyed a new facelift
through the direct efforts of the Federal
Government and through the interventions of the
Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
“Our public schools have witnessed massive
renovations, there is no oil producing community
that does not have one roads project completed
or ongoing, these have been made possible due to
the interest the President has shown in the Niger
Delta.
“Through the NDDC, our children are awarded
scholarships for foreign studies, our youths have
acquired various skills and at several occasions,
the sick have received free medical assistance; all
from the federal government”, Adjogbe said.
Adjogbe assured on the relentless commitment of
the President Buhari’s administration to nation-
building, citing the East West Road Project, the
Itakpe – Aladja Railway Project and a host of
others by the administration.
He explained that President Muhammad Buhari on
assumption of office gave Delta State and other
sister states in the Niger-Delta region some very
vital appointments which today have helped in
empowering a lot of Deltans.
Adding that, “It would be a failure on our part if
we fail to reciprocate the goodwill President
Buhari has shown to Niger-Deltans through his
developmental projects across the region; we
must therefore re-elect him for a second term,
because one good turn deserves another
“We have the full confidence that Urhobo nation
and Delta State will benefit more if President
Buhari is voted for, on 16th of February, 2019, as
a way of showing appreciation for all he has done
for our people.
“There is no gainsaying that Deltans can only
challenge the Buhari government for more
dividends of democracy if only we could give him
our mass vote, which is also our ticket to
negotiate for appointments.

Adding that to whom much is given, much is

the good work the President has done by voting
for all APC candidates, because Delta cannot
afford to remain in the opposition in the next
political dispensations.”

Romance / Slay Queen Ignores Man Wooing Her, But When She Saw His Flashy Car... Guess What She Did by Truevine: 09:02 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Slay queen ignores a man wooing her, but when
she realised he owns a flashy Mercedes Benz, she
then tries to get his attention.
A man was trying to get the attention of this
curvy slay queen, calling her as she walked but
she pretended as if she didn't hear the man.
She probably ignored him thinking he was just a
random broke guy looking for cheap romance.
When she turned back and saw the man going to
his white Mercedes Benz, she pretended as if she
was injured.
The man held her and led her to his pricy car.
The video is making the rounds online amid
debates about transactional s*x which has
become rampant in Nigeria.

World Politics / ‘once You Join Apc, Your Sins Are Forgiven’, Oshiomhole Says As Pdp Lambasts Him by Truevine: 06:28 pm On 1 Jan 2019
…says Buhari can’t seek re-election with soiled
hands
By Nwafor Sunday
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Friday
lampooned the National Chairman of the All
Progressives Congress APC, Adams Oshiomhole
over a statement he allegedly made on Thursday
in Edo state.
Oshiomhole was said to have opined that anyone
who joins APC would have his/her sins forgiven.
Nipping on the purported statement, PDP through
its Director Media and Publicity, PDP Presidential
Campaign Organization, Kola Ologbondiyan,
averred that Oshiomhole via his statement
exposed Buhari and APC members as criminals
and noted that his anti-corruption fight is just a
ruse.
The PPCO says Oshiomhole, by his confession at
the Edo state APC Presidential rally on Thursday,
that “once you join the APC, your sins are
forgiven”, has directly confirmed that the APC is a
sanctuary of treasury looters and that President
Buhari’s fight against corruption is mere
racketeering.
With this revelation by Oshiomhole, who is also
overburdened by huge corruption allegations for
which he had to flee the country last year, it is
now established that the APC is a party of
thieves and thrives only on deception, lies and
propaganda while swimming in an ocean of
corruption.
Nigerians will soon be told how much we
recovered from treasury looters – Buhari
The fact that President Buhari, who parades as
Mr. Integrity, has not reprimanded Oshiomhole
but openly relished the assertion, confirms his
moral entanglement, accommodation and valid
endorsement of corrupt practices by APC
members and Presidency cabal.
Nigerians are all witnesses to how President
Buhari became an advocate for Kano state
governor, Abdullahi Ganduje over the leaked tape,
showing him allegedly collecting bribe from
contractors.
They have also seen how Mr. President, even as
supposed Mr. Integrity, surrounds himself with
corrupt persons and how most members of his
Campaign Organization, as individuals, have been
indicted for corruption.
This is even more worrisome given allegations
that the Buhari Presidency and the APC are
directly benefiting from the funds being looted
under their watch, including the N9 trillion detailed
in the leaked NNPC memo; the N33 billion North
East intervention fund, the repatriated $322
million stolen under the guise of sharing to the
poor, the over N25 billion stolen from the National
Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the over N1.4
trillion stolen through sleazy subsidy regimes
among others.
Atiku’s visit to U.S. an attempt to score cheap
political point -APC UK
The PPCO therefore holds that given this damning
revelation by Oshiomhole, President Buhari no
longer has the moral rectitude to seek re-election
after he has betrayed Nigerians by failing to
uphold the sanctity of the war against corruption
as one of the major planks of his re-election
campaign.
Moreover, Oshiomhole and his co-travellers in his
corruption roller coaster are reminded that they
will soon lose their cover and definitely face trial
for their atrocities as Nigerians have resolved to
vote out their grand patron, President Buhari from
office on February 16, 2019.
Amaechi behind plot to destroy CJN, says Wike
Finally, the PPCO urges the EFCC to commence
the investigation and prosecution of members of
the APC campaign council as well as new
entrants into their party as their factional
National Chairman had already confessed that the
party is a club of looters.

Business/Investments / Fg To Review Revenue Sharing Formula Over Minimum Wage by Truevine: 05:32 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Federal Government yesterday resolved to
engage governors of the 36 states of the
federation and the Council of State in a review of
the nation’s federal allocation sharing
formula. The review is part of demands by the
Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) prior to its
accepting the implementation of the proposed
N30,000 National Minimum Wage for Nigerian
workers.
Following the National Economic Council (NEC)
meeting chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo,
it was gathered that if agreed upon, the proposed
wage would be taken care of as prescribed by the
Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal
Commission (RMAFC).
The NGF had recently sought a new fiscal
restructuring plan on the grounds that economic
challenges in the states would make payment of
the new wage difficult.Although the Minimum
Wage Tripartite Committee led by the former
Head of Service of the Federation, Ama Pepple,
had recommended N30,000, the Federal
Government agreed to pay N24,000, while the
state governments insisted on N22,500.
A presidency source privy to the closed-door
deliberations at yesterday’s NEC meeting said the
Federal Government has decided to take the
governors’ request to the Council of State for a
definite resolution on the wage crisis. He said: “We
are making progress. We will be meeting with the
Council of State on Tuesday, January 22. The
governors are asking for a review of the revenue
sharing formula, and government is looking at
that. The Minimum Wage Technical Advisory
Committee that was inaugurated recently is
looking into the revenue sharing formula.”
Asked to be specific on whether the Federal
Government has agreed to allocate more
resources to state governments, the source said:
“Everything is in progress.”
Speaking to State House correspondents after the
meeting, Minister of Labour and Employment
Chris Ngige said NEC discussed the matter and
agreed to meet members of the Council of State
for a unified position.
President Buhari recently inaugurated an advisory
technical committee for the implementation of the
proposed wage. The committee, which was given
one month to submit its report, will advise the
Federal Government on new sources of funds and
ways to implement the initiative in a sustainable
manner.

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory
(FCT) in Maitama, Abuja has granted bail to
Nigerian lawmaker Senator Dino Melaye, who was
being held in a police health facility in Abuja.
Dino Melaye’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), was
granted a bail application by Justice Yusuf Halilu
on health grounds.
Justice Halilu was of the view the Senator must
be healthy to stand trial.
He said since the Senator cannot be arraigned on
the stretcher or on his hospital bed, he should be
allowed on bail to attend to his health.
The judge asked him to produce three sureties,
one of who must be the clerk of the National
Assembly, who must undertake to produce him
when he is to be arraigned in respect of a charge
already filed against him.
The judge said the other two sureties must be
owners of properties within the Abuja metropolis.
in Maitama, Abuja on Friday, January 4. The
Senator locked away in his apartment,
surrendered on the eighth day of the siege.
He slumped while he was being taken into
custody and was taken to the police infirmary in
Garki.
The People’s Democratic Party lawmaker was
arrested for alleged criminal conspiracy and
attempted culpable homicide.
Melaye is currently standing trial in more than
one suit. He has been accused of illegal
possession of arms, gun running and sponsoring
hoodlums in Kogi State.
Police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said the
shooting and injuries on a police officer by
Senator Dino Melaye and his armed thugs in Kogi
State on the 19th July 2018 warranted his arrest.
He added that the police officer was yet to
recover from the gunshot injury he sustained
during the attack and was under intensive
medical care.
“The Police Officer, Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, is yet to
recover from the gunshot injury he sustained

World Politics / Re: Thieves Stole Money In Senator’s Car, Says Ekweremadu by Truevine: 05:15 pm On 1 Jan 2019
abunajib:what were the security guards on duty doing?

I don't know for them o.

World Politics / Thieves Stole Money In Senator’s Car, Says Ekweremadu by Truevine: 01:48 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on
Thursday, shocked his colleagues when he
revealed how some thieves broke into the luxury
car of a senator and stole huge sums of money.
He lamented that the multi-million naira Close
Circuit Television devise installed in the National
Assembly was not functional as of the time of the
incident.
Ekweremadu stated this while responding to a
point of order raised by Senator Oluremi Tinubu,
complaining about a burglary case which occurred
in her office during the yuletide and New Year
break.
The deputy senate president who presided over
the session sympathized with Tinubu, but noted
that the incident in her office was not an isolated
matter because a similar incident happened in the
House of Representatives.
He said, “A colleague came for a transaction and
left some money in his car during the Christmas
break. Some people broke into the car and
removed some money.
“Since he parked his car close to the main Senate
complex, he thought that the CCTV camera would
capture the activities of the burglars but
regrettably, the CCTV did not work when it was
checked and it is really embarrassing.”
He therefore directed the National Assembly
management to investigate all burglary issues
that had been reported so far, and furnish the
leadership of the federal parliament, the outcome
of its investigations as soon as possible..
Tinubu, who came under Order 43 (personal
explanation), had raised the alarm that the
incident in her office was giving her serious
concern.
He said, “My office was closed on 7th December
because of my constituency engagements. My
staff resumed on Wednesday January 9 and
reported a case of burglary in my office.”
She urged the Senate to direct the National
Assembly management to replace all the items
stolen in her office.

Business/Investments / Power Distributors Owe Nbet N108bn In Three Months by Truevine: 01:42 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Despite an increase in their collection efficiency,
the remittance by electricity distribution
companies to the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading
Plc for the energy received by them dropped to
27.5 per cent in the third quarter of 2018 from
31.5 per cent in the previous quarter.
The latest quarterly report released by the
Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on
Tuesday showed that the Discos failed to remit a
total of N108.4bn to NBET in the third quarter.
The government-owned NBET buys electricity in
bulk from generation companies through Power
Purchase Agreements and sells to the Discos,
which then supply to the consumers.
The report revealed that the collection efficiency
of the Discos increased from 64.2 per cent in the
second quarter to 65.5 per cent in the third
quarter.
It said, “During the third quarter of 2018, the 11
Discos were issued a total invoice of N162.5bn for
energy received from NBET and for service charge
by the Market Operator, but only a sum of
N54.1bn (33.3 per cent) was settled by the
Discos, creating a significant deficit of N108.4bn
in the market.”
NERC said only two of the Discos recorded an
increase in remittance performance in the third
quarter, adding that none of them remitted up to
50 per cent of their market invoices.
The report showed that Ikeja Disco recorded the
highest remittance efficiency (43 per cent),
followed by Eko Disco with 42 per cent.
It said Kaduna Disco recorded the worst
remittance performance of 10 per cent, followed
by Jos Disco (11 per cent).
The regulator said while the low remittance by
the Discos to NBET and the MO was partly due to
tariff shortfall, the Discos must improve on their
technical and commercial efficiencies for
improvements on the payment obligation to the
market, thereby improving sector liquidity.
“A major initiative towards improving revenue
collection in the electricity industry is the
provision of meters to all registered end-use
consumers of electricity,” it added.
According to the report, the challenge of poor
remittance has remained a serious concern to the
commission as it is one of the main causes of the
liquidity crisis facing the Nigerian electricity
supply industry.
It said, “Low remittance adversely affects the
ability of NBET to honour its obligations to
Gencos while service providers (Transmission
Service Provider, MO and NERC) struggle with the
paucity of funds impacting their capacity to
perform their statutory obligations.
“To address the poor remittance by Discos, the
commission has commenced enforcement actions
against Discos found to have engaged in
unacceptably low remittances to NBET and the
MO, factoring in all the parameters embedded in
the tariff model.
“In this regard, the commission is finalising a
framework which ensures transparency and equity
in the disbursement of market funds for the
benefit of all participants in the industry.”

Everything has a beginning. And in the case of

For lineage, Lalekan Are draws his surname from
Are Obadoke, his great grandfather, the 12th
Aare-Ona-Kakanfo of Yorubaland, the first warlord
of Are Obadoke family, an acclaimed warrior, who
was reputed for the expansion of Ibadanland.
So Lalekan Are is proudly Ibadan, his
expansionist vision of Ibadan frontier is with his
company, Kakanfo Enterprises Ltd, upon which
Kakanfo Inn and Conference Centre is built. He
has done so with valour, confidence, creatively
and fearlessly – and I must say reputedly in the
right way. Happily, there goes the title of the
book, The Right Way.
So much for lineage and training, Mrs Bisi Are,
has a degree from Michigan State University in
Home Economics and Human Ecology. Added to
this is God’s given talent to cook well. When she
returned to Nigeria after her studies, she had a
weekly 30-minute TV programme on the WNTV
captioned, ‘IT’S A WOMAN’S WORLD’, where she
tantalized viewers with mouth- watering dishes.
Salivation comes mostly through sight and smell.
The programme created a unique interest and
followership. Viewers were clamoring to have a
taste of what they were seeing on TV. A
restaurant was, therefore, born in 1971 to meet
the demand and the Ares called it Saba Saba
Restaurant.
This restaurant was located in Oke-Ado and was
hugely popular for quality and service. Such was
its popularity that a renowned physician in Ibadan
had his ambulance come every day without fail to
pick up his lunch. The doctor may have
recognised the need to have his meal and he
sped unabated through traffic to preserve the
food temperature. Who knows?
While Mrs Bisi Are held the kitchen, it was not
unusual for Dr Lekan Are, a Professor of
Agronomy, to serve as waiter, taking food orders
and generally serving the customers. Both
husband and wife were combining culinary and
administrative skills to run a system.
Adedamola Are, the author of this book, even as a
high school student, cut his teeth serving as a
waiter in the restaurant. While many would have
considered this hands-on approach beneath them,
the Ares used it to learn. They were able to pay
attention to details, interact with their customers
and respond to their needs. Unknown to them,
they were preparing grounds for higher service in
the hospitality business.
Ultimately and painfully, the Saba Saba
Restaurant without on-site supervision of the
owners stuttered, shrank and closed down in
1984. However, it was an experiment that would
form the base of the future to come. It would turn
failure into success.
When a man has travelled the world over, it
should also imply that he has, in all probability,
slept in the best of hotels and in the worst.
Traveling that widely enables discernment when it
comes to hospitality. Hotels no longer become
just rest stops, they become schools to imbibe
the lessons of hospitality. It was only a matter of
time that, Lalekan Are, a fastidious man, active
both of mind and in society, was going to
replicate some of the best hotel services that he
had experienced worldwide traveling as an
international scientist, in Ibadan.
Sooner than later, retirement from the public
service loomed for Dr Are and the thoughts of
what he would do in post-retirement had to be
seriously contemplated. He had observed the
dearth of good hotel facilities in Ibadan and his
property at Joyce B Road, which he bought in
1968 was lying fallow. Bang! an hotel could be
built, would be built and was built. The
construction took seven years. A good hotel can
be built in two to three years, perhaps less, but
this took seven years. It was indicative of funding
and other obstacles. The construction had to be
phased in. Finally, it opened on October 17, 1988
and was test run before it officially opened in May
1989.
The struggle to construct and open was a lot of
financial burden because Kakanfo Enterprises had
drawn a strangulating loan from the IBWA Bank
under very harsh terms. There was also the
Structural Adjustment Programme under the then
President Ibrahim Babaginda. This was a scheme
that enormously devalued the Naira overnight and
went on spiraling down, impoverishing everybody,
just about, in its wake. Such was the debt burden
that Kakanfo Enterprises was closed to
bankruptcy and Sheraton Hotels, Lagos was
waiting in the wings to prowl.
As one bank failed them so did they find salvation
in others. To their rescue came Nigbel Merchant
Bank led by late Chief Nathaniel Idowu and Wema
Bank led by late Chief Samuel Adegbite, both
providing funding and valuable advice. Ibadan can
hold its head high that this establishment,
Kakanfo Inn, was truly nurtured to fruition by the
financial influence and support of Ibadan
indigenes at a time they needed it most.
The twin leadership of the founder and the
managerial skill of Ajay Singh Bawa, an Indian,
took the hotel through its teething stage to a
formidable standing, all done against huge
challenges. There was the phased-in construction,
the innumerable challenges with staff, most of
which bordered on lethargy, unimaginable stealing
and other leakages, as well as low patronage of
the hotel at the start of operations and a heavy
debt burden.
But luck soon came in. Nigeria was going to host
the Under-20 FIFA World Cup in 1999 and Ibadan
was to play host to some of the matches. FIFA
was in need of good quality hotels in the hosting
cities. Sadly, Kakanfo Inn was not selected during
the initial selection. At 42 room capacity, it was
adjudged too small by the selection committee.
Leading to the competition, the Secretary-General
of FIFA, Sepp Blatter made an inspection tour to
Ibadan primarily to see the Liberty Stadium. But
just before he was going to return to Lagos, he
needed to make an urgent call to his office in
Zurich. He wanted to make a direct call as
against an operator-assisted call. None was
readily available, but his driver suggested that he
should go to Kakanfo Inn. As he pulled up at
Kakanfo Inn and alighted from his car, it was Dr
Lalekan Are that he ran into. He was led into an
office where he made his direct call. Naturally, Dr
Are’s business instincts kicked in after the call
and he took Blatter on a tour right round the
hotel. The only place he did not show him was
Oke-Are.
Later that week, at the close of his visit to
Nigeria, Sepp Blatter addressed a press
conference in Lagos in which he claimed a lot
more still needed to be done by Nigeria to be
ready for the competition, but the good news was
that he discovered a good hotel in Ibadan that
could host officials, pressmen, fans and teams.
Blatter had given Kakanfo Inn visibility on the
world stage, free publicity and huge marketing for
free. Thereafter, doors opened and several NGOs,
foreign embassies, world organisations, top
companies etc took account of Blatter’s
promotion and made Kakanfo Inn their hotel of
choice.
From patronage, the hotel grew in size from 42
rooms to 82 by 1997. Expansion was a risky
venture and had to be gutsy. When guts are in
demand, Lalekan Are is in his elements and rises
to the occasion.
The book also gives account of how clear
thoughts led to diversification and the creation of
the Kakanfo Conference Centre, the hall in which
we are in. The ultimate sacrifice was shown here
when the founder rather than draw a loan from
the bank at a strangulating interest rate of close
to 30 per cent, liquidated most of his assets
acquired over 50 years of honest and hard labour
to provide the financial resources to prosecute the
project. In any event, debt is nothing to be feared
particularly if it is a good debt. The company was
expanding to a niche of need that was
complementary to the services of the hotel and
today they reap their reward with its success.
After 20 years of meritorious service at the helm
of affairs, Mr Bawa retired to return to his
country. There was an interim leadership of some
years involving two trials that followed, but they
merely and barely held the reins. And then came
Adedamola Are, the author of this book.
There was a convergence of coincidence that only
God’s grace and unseen hand could effect. About
the same time that Lalekan Are was
contemplating starting a hotel in Ibadan, his son,
Adedamola, was graduating in Public
Administration in the United States and was now
transiting to study Hotel Management in Graduate
School. Only God could conceive and design such
a plan where father is designing a hotel in his
mind and son is training in hotel management
without either knowing or premeditated.
Adedamola’s training was to take him into the
bowels of hotels from across the US, working at
managerial levels at Marriot Hotel in San Diego,
Cypress, Vail – in California, Vail in Colorado and
the Hilton Hotel in New York, South Carolina,
Georgia, Florida and Colorado.
Against this background and given the root of all
that is good, Adedamola returned to Kakanfo in
2012 at a time when the business had reached a
crossroads and was coasting on its oars.
It was Adedamola, a man with a different
education, and his team who creatively energised
the company and gave it a renewed impetus and
expansion. He was forced to reassess the future,
to go ahead with the future, or the future would
have left them behind.
The state plays a huge role directly and indirectly
in the outcome of businesses. First, business can
only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and
stability. The book narrates the setbacks and the
challenges the hotel went through in the years
when the state was in turmoil. The state also
plays a role in infrastructure. When roads are
built, movement for whatever purposes are
enhanced, accommodation and activities are
improved, higher tax revenue is generated. The
greatest challenge for a hotel is electricity
because, even if there is only one guest in the
premises as occupant, the generator must be
switched on, driving the operations as if in full
capacity. With the generator at full blast, every
working day is commenced at a deficit.
Nothing quite succeeds as the story of success.
This book is partly autobiographical and largely
the story of success, about how a family business
overcame the challenges of Nigeria. It celebrates
the vision and steadfastness of the founder as
much as applaud the contribution of the board
and the dreamer who have taken it to the next
level. It also shows the transition into the future.
It is also a hand book on how it was done – how
to grow business through thick and thin and how
to preserve the core values in the process.
The foreword of the book was written by Architect
Ayodeji Olorunda, someone who is eminently
qualified to do so. Architect Olorunda has been
there as architect cum consultant to the company
for the past 30 years, designing and erecting the
structure that you refer to either as the Kanfanfo
Hotel or the Kankanfo Conference Centre. It is to
the architect that we go to lay our housing
dreams for him to turn them into structures.
When the architect is briefed, he gains further
insight into the client. He has both our dreams
and privileged insight to introduce this company
or its book.
When Adedamola Are completed his manuscript,
he did not have to go far to seek a publisher or
for a publisher to seek him out. He found a
publisher in University Press Plc, the biggest
publishing company in Nigeria. Coincidentally, Dr
Lalekan Are is the Chairman of University Press
Plc and you should expect some semblance with
Kakanfo Inn in their conduct and values.
I should expect that the UP Plc took on the
publication of the book, not because Lalekan Are
is their Chairman, but on the merit of the book.
The book is a veritable account of growing
business in a very harsh environment through
experience, stability and core values. For the
excellence that they are used to, UP Plc will do
well in the reprint of this book to minimise the
grammatical errors encountered in the publication
and make the spreadsheets in the appendix more
legible. They must also note the importance of
the blurb to give a short description of the book
because the blurb to this book tells us nothing
about the book, except to tell us about the
careers of the authors.
What we call company is nothing but family and
it takes the character of the founding fathers and
the people in it. From dream to reality, there is an
Are stamp on this establishment for ruggedness,
pragmatism, clear-sightedness, service, patriotism
and integrity.
If you are like me, you will pick up this book in the
morning, even at a total of 210 pages, and by
evening you would have finished reading it,
simply because it holds you as a book that you
will be riveted to. You will not want to put it
down. If you are like most people, you will pick up
this book and read it, taking your time and
savouring every page of it and drawing lessons
from it. Whether you read it at a seating or
leisurely at your pace, I wholeheartedly
recommend this book as one to read.

World Politics / Imo Apc Faction Sues Oshiomhole As Nwafor Suspends Nlemigbo by Truevine: 12:15 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives
Congress was plunged into a fresh crisis on
Wednesday as a factional chairman of the party
in the state Chief Dan Nwafor announced the
indefinite suspension of the leader of the APC
National Working Committee-backed faction Chief
Marcellinus Nlemigbo.
Speaking at a press conference in Owerri, Nwafor
said Nlemigbo was suspended over alleged anti-
party activities.
He also alleged that the chairman of the caretaker
committee appointed by the NWC to replace his
executive had not attended APC meetings in his
Ezinihitte ward in Mbaitoli Local Government Area
of the state in the last one year.
Nwafor said the suspension followed due process.
He said, “It started from a letter of suspension
from his Ezinihitte Mbieri ward in Mbaitoli Local
Government Area of the state.”
He said the State Working Committee affirmed
Nlemigbo’s suspension in accordance with the
party’s constitution.
Describing members of the caretaker committee
as impostors, Nwafor said he would not be
distracted by the development.
He also said the party had commenced a
contempt proceeding against the National
Chairman of the party Adams Oshiomhole.
He said the suit was filed at the Federal High
Court, Abuja.
Nwafor, who accused Oshiomhole of working
against the success of the party, urged President
Muhammadu Buhari to monitor the activities of
the former Edo State governor.
He said Oshiomhole had no power to dissolve the
executive body he is leading and appoint a
caretaker committee because they were duly
elected.
Nwafor said the action was contemptuous
because there was an existing court judgement
barring Oshiomhole from dissolving his executive.
He said, “The National chairman had no power to
arbitrarily dissolve a duly elected APC executive in
Imo State and appoint a purported caretaker
committee.”
Nwafor also said the caretaker committee had no
power to summon Governor Rochas Okorocha and
five others to appear before a “purported
disciplinary committee”.
He said only his executive body had the right to
set up a disciplinary committee and ask anyone
to appear before it.

Business/Investments / Fraud: $217bn Taken Out Of Nigeria Illegally Between 1970 Till Date – Efcc by Truevine: 12:03 pm On 1 Jan 2019
According to Punch News Nigeria - Source
Nigeria has recorded illicit financial outflows of $
217.7bn in 38 years, specifically between 1970
and 2008, the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, said in Abuja on Wednesday.
The commission stated that the various
investigations, arrests, prosecution and assets
recoveries over the years had confirmed that the
level of corruption in Nigeria had been truly
staggering.
The Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu,
represented by its Acting Spokesperson, Tony
Orilade, expressed these views at a one-day
conference organised by Online Publishers
Association of Nigeria with the theme: “Free press
and objective reporting in the 2019 election year.”
The EFCC boss said corruption in Nigeria was
being perpetrated by individuals and groups both
in the private and public sectors.
He identified former state governors, ministers,
high ranking military officers, chief executives of
parastatals and top bureaucrats in state and
federal agencies as culprits involved in the public
sector theft.
Magu said, “The alarming rate of corruption
committed by these unpatriotic elements can be
partly seen in the number of convictions secured
by the EFCC from Nigerian courts since I assumed
duty as the head of the commission in 2015.
“The figure stands at 103 in 2015, 195 in 2016,
189 in 2017 and 312 for the period of January to
December 2018. The total figure for the period of
2015 to 2018 is a mind-blowing 799 convictions.
In the process of such convictions, the EFCC
recovered N794.5bn, $261m, £1.1m, €8.1m and
CFA86, 500.
“One of the most graphic ways through which the
absence of democratic accountability manifests
itself in Nigeria today is through the prevalence of
rampant corruption at all levels of governance.
For example, Transparency International reported
that Nigeria was the most corrupt country in the
world for years: 1996, 1997, 2000 and second in
the line for remaining years up to 2003.
“In February 2015, a high-level panel on illicit
financial flows from Africa constituted by the
African Union, under the chairmanship of a former
President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, revealed
that Nigeria ranked first among ten African
countries by cumulative illicit financial flows
between 1970 and 2008. The total outflow from
Nigeria for the period was $217.7bn constituting
about 30.5 per cent of Africa’s total share.”

World Politics / Nigerians Have Made Up Their Minds To Vote Atiku, Pdp Replies Buhari by Truevine: 12:31 am On 1 Jan 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has replied
President Muhammadu Buhari saying that
Nigerians have made up their minds to vote Atiku
Abubakar as their next President.
The party stated this in a statement on
Wednesday through its Director Media and
Publicity, Presidential Campaign Organisation,
Kola Ologbondiyan.
According to the PDP, “Nigerians have since made
up their minds to rally with Atiku Abubakar as
their next President ahead of the February
Presidential election”.
Although President Buhari had earlier told
supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, not to make the
mistake and vote for any PDP candidate during
the general elections.
The PDP in its statement further criticised the
‘scanty attendance’ at the APC campaign rallies
saying it is an indication that Nigerians are not
ready to return him into the office for a second
term.
The opposition party also alleged that the
president could not clearly make his claims at the
rally.
“President Buhari could not articulate any clear
message, even as he mixed up figures and
statistics,” the party said.
The party also criticised the APC’s National
Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole for calling out
names of their party leaders during the campaign
rally and called on the National Peace Committee
to sanction him on the comments he made
against them.
“It is instructive for President Buhari to note how
poorly Nigerians responded to his campaign flag-
off in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, as well as his zonal
rallies, where his rented attendees even refused to
wave the APC brooms and paid no attention to
him whenever he mounted the stage to speak.
“President Buhari should end his playing to the
gallery on the fight against corruption and get
serious by prosecuting members of his Campaign
Council, who all have allegations of corruption
hanging on their names”.

World Politics / I’m Not Going To Enrich Members Of My Family But My Friends – Atiku by Truevine: 11:56 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The PDP candidate stated this on Wednesday
while addressing the business community in
Lagos at an event themed “Getting Nigeria’s
Economy Working : A Pragmatic Approach.
“I am not going to enrich members of my family
but my friends.
“Are my friends not entitled to be enriched? As
long as there is no element of corruption there,”
he said.
He also gave an assured that his team has the
capacity to tackle corruption in the country.
Beyond that, Atiku vowed to privatise the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) if he gets
into power.
He said, “I am committed to privatizing NNPC, I
said it.” He had previously announced that he would
privatise the oil corporation which has faced
controversy over how it operates over the years.
Although the plan had been faulted by some at
the time it was announced, the PDP candidate
vowed to follow through with it even if it costs
him his life.
“I swear, even if they are going to kill me, I will do
it,” he said.

Crime / Man Proposes To His Girlfriend Who Stabbed Him 13 Times Inside Court Room by Truevine: 11:10 pm On 1 Jan 2019
A man who almost died after his girlfriend
stabbed him 13 times has proposed to her in
court – and begged a judge not to jail her. The
unnamed woman, who is on trial in Nizhnekamsk,
Russia, is facing up to six years behind bars for
the frenzied attack.
The victim, named only as Mr Shakur, escaped
with his life when he managed to flee from his
partner, prosecutor Airat Bikmurzin told the court.
Mr Bikmurzin said: “The accused woman failed to
fulfil her criminal intention due to circumstances
she could hardly influence.
“The victim managed to escape from the crime
scene and found medical help in time. “Using the
knife as a weapon, she stabbed the victim at
least 13 times.”
The man was hospitalised for three weeks with
stab wounds all over his body, the prosecutor
added.
He demanded a custodial sentence of up to six
years for intentionally causing damage to the
health of the man and threatening his life.
The woman pleaded guilty to the stabbing
incident but denied she had intended to “kill” her
boyfriend and said she was “drunk” at the time.
It was not clear what the dispute was about. As
she stood and faced the judge, her victim
proposed to her in court, according to a report
from NTR-24 TV.
He appealed to the judge for leniency and said
they intended to arrange the date of their
wedding.
The Russian judge postponed a decision on
sentencing until a future hearing, according to
reports.
