World Politics / Buhari Campaign Group Drags Atiku To Court by Truevine: 06:43 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Buhari Campaign Organisation has instituted
a N40million defamation suit against the People’s
Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku
Abubakar.
The campaign group is accusing Abubakar of
defaming president Muhammadu Buhari and his
family.
The suit, filed before a High Court of the Federal
Capital Territory, is asking the court to compel
the PDP standard-bearer to pay damages for
alleging that the President and his family
members own substantial shares in 9mobile and
Keystone Bank.
Abubakar through his spokesperson, Shaibu, on
December 26, demanded a probe into the
ownership of Etisalat Nigeria and Keystone Bank.
He said the call was necessary “in view of reports
that members of President Muhammadu Buhari’s
family now own substantial share in Etisalat
Nigeria which has an estimated $2 billion (about
N727 billion at 360 per dollar) of its estimated $
20 billion global net worth.”
The plaintiffs are seeking a declaration that “the
1st Defendant (Phrank Shaibu) on behalf and for
the 2nd Defendant (Atiku) neglectfully, unlawfully
and recklessly permitted and caused to be
published in Newspapers, defamatory and
damaging statements against the 1st Plaintiff
(President Buhari)”.
While the telecommunication company are yet to
refute the claims by Abubakar, the management
of Keystone Bank says it has no ties with Buhari.
“The fact of the ownership of Keystone Bank by
the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria
was never in doubt. On March 23, 2017, AMCON
divested its ownership of Keystone Bank after
successful bidding that followed due process,” the
Bank said in a statement on January 9, 2019.
“We confirm that the Sigma Golf-Riverbank
Consortium owns 100 per cent of Keystone Bank.
From the records available to us which are
verifiable at the Corporate Affairs Commission, the
core investors (Sigma Golf Nigeria Limited and
Riverbank Investment Resources Limited) have no
relationship with either President Muhammadu
Buhari or Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, as may be widely
speculated.”

Barcelona have announced that Denis Suarez has
been dropped from their squad to face Sevilla on
Wednesday evening, replacing him with Kevin-

Religion / Pope Francis Fixes Japan Visit For November by Truevine: 06:35 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Pope Francis announced Wednesday he will visit
Japan in November, becoming the first pontiff to
do so since John Paul II nearly 40 years ago.
“I will go to Japan in November,” he said on
board the Papal plane bringing him to Panama for
a gathering of young Catholics.
The Argentine pontiff has repeatedly voiced a
desire to visit Japan, home to some 450,000
Roman Catholics, including most recently in
September last year.
Around 510,000 Protestants live in the largely
Shinto Buddhist country, according to Japan’s
Agency for Cultural Affairs.
Francis had wanted to work as a missionary there
in his youth but abandoned the plan after a lung
operation.
The pope has made two trips to Asia since his
election five years ago, visiting the Philippines and
Sri Lanka in 2014, followed by Myanmar and
Bangladesh last year.
In January of last year, Francis issued a
harrowing photograph taken in 1945 showing a
young Japanese boy carrying his dead brother.
The child, carried on the boy’s back, was killed
when the United States dropped a nuclear bomb
on Nagasaki.
Francis, who has often spoken of the dangers of
nuclear weapons, had written on the back of the
image just four words: “The fruit of war”.

World Politics / 2019: 42 Political Parties Declare Support For Gov. Ayade’s Re-election by Truevine: 02:03 pm On 1 Jan 2019
No fewer than 42 political parties have declared
their support for the reelection bid of the Cross
River State Governor, Ben Ayade.
The parties pledged to “deploy their structures
and support base” for the re-election bid of Ayade
in the March 2, 2019 governorship election.
Led by the state Chairman of Conference of
Nigeria Political parties, CNPP, Mr. Michael
Sunday and his Inter-Party Advisory Council,
IPAC, counterpart Mr. Paddy Ally in Calabar, the
parties said the governor deserved their support
on the strength of what he has achieved in office.
Sunday, who is also the gubernatorial candidate
of Independent Democrats, ID, commended Ayade
for his industrialization drive, as well as prompt
payment of salaries to civil servants in the state.
He said: “Your Excellency, before you are
chairmen of 42 political parties in Cross River
State. When the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC)opened the window for
political activities to begin, many people including
you, resolved to buy forms to contest for the
governorship seat of the state.
“But as time went on, We called ourselves
together and said the incumbent Governor has
not done badly. We began to take stock, We
looked at the by-pass, a place that was kind of
swampy, today that place has become an
industrial hub; and this was done in three years.
“Often times when we hear people say you have
not done this nor that, they forget to also
mention what you have done.
“I tell people that if somebody comes into power
and has built road, the next person should focus
on doing something else, and that is what Ayade
has done by industrialising the state and that is
why we have decided that we are going to drop
our ambitions and support you.”
Sunday also stated that by adopting Ayade, the
parties were “adopting industrialization, prompt
payment of salaries, economic growth and a good
man with a good heart.”
He also assured Ayade that forty thousand of
their member will formally endorse him on
January 26.
“Forty thousand members of our group would
gather on the 26th of January to support you.
“We have come enmass to adopt you as the
governor of this state, and we are going to
demonstrate the same on the 26 as I said earlier,”
he said.
Responding, Governor Ayade expressed
appreciation to the parties for finding him worthy
of their support and assured them that he would
not disappoint them and the people of the state.
Ayade said his love for the state overrides every
other consideration.

Sports / Joe Schmidt Laughs Off Eddie Jones’ Barb At s*xton by Truevine: 01:48 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Ireland out half will begin training fully on
Thursday, according to boss Joe Schmidt
Ireland coach Joe Schmidt gave a positive update
on Johnny s*xton’s fitness when naming his
squad for the opening two rounds of the Six
Nations.
Joe Schmidt has admitted he relishes Eddie
Jones’ verbal “grenades” ahead of Ireland
launching their Six Nations defence against
England.
England boss Jones has already started the mind
games by claiming Ireland out half Johnny s*xton
has the “bat phone to the referee”.
Ireland head coach Schmidt laughed off Jones’
latest barb against s*xton, and revealed that
England’s Australian boss has already pledged to
keep the verbal jousting coming.
Ireland will begin their Six Nations campaign by
hosting England in Dublin on February 2nd, with
boss Schmidt insisting he is relaxed about the
“banter” between the coaches.
“Eddie walked past me earlier and said ‘let’s get
ready for a few grenades’,” said Schmidt. “He told
me he was going to keep them coming!
“He’s incredibly hard to read, because you don’t
know if he means what he’s saying or if he’s
joking.
“I think it keeps it fresh, it keeps it entertaining. It
does make me think ‘is he serious about that?’.
“Is Jack Nowell going to play seven? Is (Mark)
Wilson going to play there, or (Tom) Curry? It
does keep the opposition guessing.
“We are training in Portugal at the moment just
15 minutes away from England — and Eddie said
he might whip across and have a look. And
because that’s topical at the moment, he just
throws that into the conversation.
“I enjoy the banter with Eddie. He’s a smart
coach.”
s*xton has been battling a knee tendon injury,
but Schmidt confirmed the British and Irish Lions
fly-half should train fully on Thursday and be at
full-tilt to face England.
Jones’ latest claim about s*xton is to insist the
Leinster playmaker receives special audience from
referees.
The candid Australian coach claimed “when he
talks, the referee listens, that is because of his
status in the game”.
In November, Jones insisted s*xton receives
more protection from referees than England fly-
half Owen Farrell, while in 2016 he claimed the
Ireland player’s parents should be “worried” about
a whiplash injury.
Ireland in the past might have been riled by
Jones’ comments, but now Schmidt is adamant
he is ready to indulge in the mind games.
Asked about Jones’ “bat phone” comments on
s*xton, Schmidt replied: “Yeah, look I want to get
hold of it if I can. I’d like a direct dial myself.
“I don’t know that Commissioner Gordon is in the
building when matches are being played.
“With Johnny, I’m not sure Owen is that different,
or Dan Biggar either. They are demanding of
themselves, their co-players and officials.
“Because they are incredibly competitive they will
ask questions. They are also really intelligent
players. They know the rules of the game.
“Johnny doesn’t have as much to say for us
because he’s not skipper. Rory (Best) would be
the guy who is more face-to-face conversations
than bat phones — but I think he manages that
well as captain.”
Schmidt revealed Ulster lock Iain Henderson could
be fit for Ireland’s final two matches, against
France and Wales, owing to a finger issue.
On s*xton’s return to action, Schmidt added:
“Johnny trained yesterday. He will train fully on
Thursday when we try to ramp the training up a
little bit.
“Our expectation is that he will get through that
without any problem at all.
“Iain Henderson could potentially make the last
two weekends. Tadhg Beirne should possibly
make the third weekend, after his knee issue. I
feel bad for both of them.”

World Politics / Don't Drag Us Into Politics, Nnpc Warns Politicians by Truevine: 01:32 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
(NNPC) said yesterday that the ongoing attempts
by politicians to drag its name into partisan
politics was a potent danger to the corporation’s
business interests, contract deals, and MoUs
which should ordinarily be insulated from politics.
The corporation, therefore, called on politicians
and those canvassing for votes for the impending
general elections, to refrain from using NNPC or
its top management as cannon fodders for their
electioneering strategies.
NNPC spokesman, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, in a
statement in Abuja, said using the corporation as
a launchpad for political attacks against
opponents was not only a disservice to the
overall national interest but also inimical to the
national economy, given NNPC’s pivotal role as
the cash cow of the nation.
The NNPC spokesperson said the call for restraint
by politicians became necessary in the wake of
the names of some of its top management being
dragged into partisan politics.

US Politics / Us Senate Leaders Agree On Deal That Could Reopen Government by Truevine: 01:30 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Republicans and Democrats schedule competing
votes for Thursday
Republicans will table a vote to reopen
government and fund president Donald Trump’s
wall. Photograph: Mandel/AFP/Getty Images
Updated: about 14 hours ago
The US senate has scheduled votes on Thursday
on competing proposals by Republicans and
Democrats that would reopen an array of federal
agencies that have been partially shuttered since
December 22nd.
However, it is not clear if either measure can
pass.
One vote would be on a plan by president Donald
Trump to reopen the agencies and provide $
5.7billion (€5 billion) this year to help build a
southwest border wall, which is opposed by
Democrats who are needed for passage.
The second measure, by Democrats, would fund
the various agencies until February 8th but allows
nothing for Trump’s wall; it will test Republican
resolve to stand by the president.
The plan, a compromise between senator Mitch
McConnell, the majority leader, and senator Chuck
Schumer, the Democratic leader, offers the first
hint of a path out of the partial shutdown, which
is now in its fifth week and has left 800,000
federal workers without pay.
The two announced the deal on Tuesday
afternoon on the Senate floor.
“People are saying isn’t there a way out of this
mess? Isn’t there a way to relieve the burden on
the 800,000 federal workers not getting paid?
Isn’t there a way to get government services open
first, and debate what we should do for border
security later?” Mr Schumer said. “Well, now
there’s a way.”
The agreement to proceed with votes marks the
first attempt at finding a path out of the
shutdown, but Mr Trump has threatened to veto
any measure that doesn’t fully fund his wall.
Democrats likely have the votes to block Mr
Trump’s bill and the Democratic proposal would
need to win support of 13 Republicans along with
every Democrat.
Don Stewart, a spokesman for Senate Majority
Leader Mitch McConnell, said the deal allows
both sides to offer alternatives and there is no
change in Mr Trump’s opposition to a short-term
reopening of the government as proposed by
Democrats.
Ad closed by

Along with the wall funding, Trump’s proposal is
running into opposition from Democrats over new
asylum limits for Central American minors.
The Democratic proposal has already been
approved in the House, and some
Senate Republicans, including Lamar Alexander of
Tennessee and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina,
have been pressing for action that would end the
shutdown which is now in its 32nd day, at least
temporarily.
But the White House has said Mr Trump wouldn’t
sign the legislation.
The Trump bill includes a provision to ban
nationals of El Salvador, Guatemala or Honduras,
who are under 18 years of age, from eligibility for
asylum unless they submit applications at a
processing centre in Central America.
That means they cannot apply in the US if they
flee their home countries due to gang violence, as
many have done.
As an olive branch to Democrats, the bill also
includes provisional three-year work permits for
young undocumented people currently enrolled in
the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
programme (DACA), and those who have
Temporary Protected Status.
Mr Trump has sought to end both programmes.
However, the new legislation would only apply the
DACA extension to those young immigrants
currently receiving protections, and not those who
might be eligible to qualify, as would be allowed
under a previous bipartisan proposal called the
Bridge Act.
The new legislation would leave out hundreds of
thousands of undocumented immigrants brought
to the US as children. – Agencies

Sports / Transfer: Arsenal Begin Talks To Sign James Rodriguez As Suarez Deal Collapses by Truevine: 01:19 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Arsenal have made contact with Real Madrid, over
the possibility of signing James Rodriguez.
The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Bayern
Munich, but has struggled to win a regular role
under Niko Kovac.
On Monday, Bild reported that Rodriguez was
“frustrated” after he was brought on as a late
substitute in Friday’s 3-1 win over Hoffenheim,
while Kovac has challenged the Colombia
international to prove his worth to the team.
Bayern have the option to sign Rodriguez at the
end of his loan for €42million (£36.8m), but the
midfielder is set to return to Real Madrid.
Intermediaries acting on Arsenal’s behalf, have
made an approach to Madrid to discuss the
prospect of signing Rodriguez on an initial loan
deal.
Madrid, however, are keen to sell Rodriguez, while
Bayern are open to the prospect of letting the
playmaker leave this much as he is not making
much of an impact.
This comes amid speculations that Arsenal’s deal
to sign Denis Suarez from Barcelona has
collapsed.

World Politics / 2019 Presidency: Why Buhari, Obasanjo Still Smile, Shake Hands – Shehu Sani by Truevine: 01:18 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the
National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has
provided reasons former President Olusegun
Obasanjo and President Muhammadu Buhari still
exchange pleasantries whenever they meet.
Obasanjo and President Muhammadu Buhari met
and shook hands
before the commencement of the National Council
of State meeting at the Presidential Villa on
Tuesday.
This happened barely 24 hours after the former
President released a statement condemning the
Buhari administration.
In a space of 48 hours, Obasanjo had attacked
President Buhari on different occasions.
But it seems all was well with both men when
they met at the Council of State meeting
yesterday.
Shehu Sani explained that what is binding the
two politicians is thicker than “the paste of their
politics.”
In tweet on Tuesday night, Senator Sani added,
“PMB and OBJ: Don’t be shocked when you see
them shake hands and smile.
“The glue of their history is thicker than the paste
of their politics.
“The pillar of their class interest is stronger than
the emotions of their fanatics.”

Health / Don’t Panic Over Lassa Fever, Centre Urges Nigerians by Truevine: 01:14 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)
says Nigerians need not panic over the rising
cases of Lassa fever because it has initiated
measures in response to the disease in the
country.
The advice was expressed in a statement on
Wednesday by the Chief Executive Officer, NCDC,
Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu in Abuja.
Ihekweazu said that in preparation for this year’s
emergency phase, NCDC had been providing
support to states, including emergency supplies
and deployment of Rapid Response Teams (RRT).
He said that the RRTs would work with states in
response coordination, contact tracing, case
management, risk communication and
strengthening infection prevention and control
practices.
“Recent epidemiological data shows that Lassa
fever usually occurs during the dry season,
between January and April.’’
According to him, as at Jan. 13, about 60
confirmed cases were reported in eight states.
”Given this increase in reported cases of Lassa
fever, the NCDC has declared this an outbreak
and activated an Emergency Operations Centre
(EOC) to coordinate the response,” he said.
He said that given the increase in reported cases,
the NCDC declared it as an outbreak and
activated an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)
to coordinate the response.
Ihekweazu, therefore, advised members of the
public to focus on prevention by practising good
personal hygiene and proper environmental
sanitation.
”Take effective measures by storing grain and
other foodstuffs in rodent-proof containers,
disposing of garbage far from the home,
maintaining clean households, and other
measures to discourage rodents from entering
homes.
”Hand washing should be practised frequently.
The public is also advised to avoid bush burning.
”Health care workers are again reminded that
Lassa fever presents initially like any other
disease causing febrile illness such as malaria.
”Healthcare providers are advised to practise
standard precautions at all times, and to maintain
a high index of suspicion.”
Ihekweazu advised that Rapid Diagnostic Test
(RDT) must be applied to all suspected cases of
malaria.
”When the RDT is negative, other causes of febrile
illness including Lassa fever should be considered.
Accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment
increases the chances of survival.
”The national guidelines for Infection Prevention
and Control, as well as Lassa fever case
management have been developed, disseminated
to states and are available on the NCDC website
for download,’’ he said.
Ihekweazu reinstated Federal Government’s
commitment to supporting all States’ public
health teams to prevent and respond to public
health threats.

World Politics / 2019 Election: Nurtw Warns Members Working For Politicians by Truevine: 11:58 pm On 1 Jan 2019
President of the National Union of Road Transport

against being used as political thugs during the
general elections.
Usman-Yasin said in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday at the
inauguration of the 20-member newly elected
State Executive Committee of the union that the
time when transport union members were being
tagged political thugs was over.
He described NURTW as a professional
organisation like other bodies, urging members to
shun gratification from any politician that
approached them for evil deeds.
Usman-Yasin urged the members to maintain
their discipline and shun any conduct that could
tarnish its image, noting that members of the
union reserved the right to belong to political
parties of their choice.
The national president, however, appealed to the
members to get their Permanent Voter Cards, and
vote for candidates that would represent them
well.
“Take the advantage of the forthcoming general
elections and vote credible candidates at different
levels that would cater and represent your
interests.
“The 2019 election is at the corner. I’m calling on
members, throughout the federation, to make sure
they get their voters’ cards so that they can elect
credible leaders to look into affairs of the masses.
“I want you to know that driving is a profession,
like any other in the world; therefore, you should
not allow anyone of you to be used as political
thugs during the elections.
“You should be law abiding and for no reason
take laws into your hands. Try as much as
possible to uphold the dignity and pride and as
well avoid anything that can tarnish the good
image of our union, ” he said.
Usman-Yasin added that the union had signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the
Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) to guarantee safe, smooth and early
movement of electoral materials to voting centres
across the country.

Mr Yinka Oyebode, stated this in a statement he
released to journalists in Ado-Ekiti.
Oyebode said the sack was sequel to the
consideration and the adoption of the White

World Politics / Inec Insists Gov Ahmed Remains Pdp Candidate For Kwara South by Truevine: 11:54 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in
Kwara, Malam Athairu Madami has declared that
the Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) did not make any mistake in listing Gov.
Abdulfatah Ahmed as PDP candidate for Kwara
South Senatorial district election.
Madami told Newsmen in his office on Tuesday
that Ahmed’s name could not be substituted for
another person because he did not apply within
the stipulated time.
NAN reports that the Governor said on Monday
that the Electoral body made a mistake in leaving
his name as the Senatorial candidate because he
duly applied for the substitution of his name with
that of Sen Rafiu Ibrahim.
According to the REC, deadline for substitution
and replacement of names expired on Nov 17,
2018, adding that Ahmed sent his application on
Dec 3, 2018.
He said INEC wrote to the governor on Dec 31,
2018 rejecting his application on the ground that
it was written after the deadline.
“Ahmed remains the candidate of the PDP for
Kwara South Senatorial election, his name is duly
registered in the form as the candidate of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
NAN reports that a letter dated Dec 19, 2018 with
reference N0: INEC/LEG/PP/19/243 signed by Mrs
Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC Secretary to the
national headquarters of the PDP conveyed the
rejection of the substitution of Ahmed’s name.
Part of the letter reads: Please note that
withdrawal/substitution of candidate closed on
17th November 2018 in accordance with the
timetable and schedule of activities for the 2019
General elections.
“Consequent upon the above, the Commission
regrets to inform you that the withdrawal and
substitution by your party is clearly outside the
timeline and therefore cannot accede to your
request,”
According to the REC, the expiration of the
timeline for substitution fell on the day of the
bye-election in Oke-Ero, Irepodun, Ekiti and Isin
Federal Constituency.
He said it was aftermath of the defeat of the PDP
at the bye-election that necessitated the
substitution of Ahmed’s name with that of the
incumbent senator, which he said was already
late.

World Politics / Tinubu Bombs Obasanjo Over Attack On Buhari, Apc, Makes Revelations [full Statement] by Truevine: 11:51 pm On 1 Jan 2019
More criticisms have come the way of former
president Olusegun Obasanjo over his letter where
he chastised President Muhammadu Buhari and
his administration, claiming the president was
preparing to rig the 2019 poll.
In his response to the letter on Tuesday, former
Lagos governor and Co-Chair of the All
Progressives Congress Presidential Campaigns,
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, said Obasanjo was
projecting unto the APC the misconduct he would
perpetrate if still in power.
“Yet, the ways of Obasanjo are not those of the
APC. And this difference has meant the better for
Nigeria,” Tinubu said in the strongly-worded
letter.
Asiwaju described the former president as an
election rigger without peer.
“There is no election which occurred under
Obasanjo’s watch or in which he participated that
did not involve cheating on his part. Even the late
President Umaru Musa Yar ‘Adua admitted he
was the beneficiary of a flawed election
engineered by none other than today’s vociferous
complainant,” he said.
Tinubu’s riposte personally signed by him, titled
“CHIEF OBASANJO – AT WAR AGAINST HIS OWN
DEEDS”, reads: “Former President Obasanjo is
many things to many people; but he is all things
unto himself. His recent contribution to our
political discourse wherein he alleges plots to
steer the coming elections shows he benefits from
an exceedingly faulty memory, is purely
shameless or has a most wicked sense of humor.
Perhaps all three are facets of his makeup and
were equally on display in his latest prosaic
display.
“The crux of his long tirade was the allegation
that INEC is poised to cook the election results.
Chief Obasanjo should not get his dander up and
waste good ink for nothing. This election will be a
free and open exercise of the people’s right to
choose their leaders. Obasanjo makes fiery
allegations against this right but offers no
corroborating evidence; he presents only reams of
words. This is because Obasanjo is projecting
onto the APC the misconduct he would wrought if
still in power. Yet, the ways of Obasanjo are not
those of the APC. And this difference has meant
the better for Nigeria.
“Moreover, Chief Obasanjo should be the last to
complain about election rigging. His
administration was an unalloyed miscarriage of
justice and of the best aspirations of the Nigerian
people. We all know he was not elected in 1999.
He was handed Nigeria on a silver platter;
perhaps because Nigeria was so easily given that
he went about treating the nation as if it was a
less than precious thing; he thought it was a
cheap give-away not a privilege to govern this
nation.
“This man should have positioned himself to be
the father of the nation. All the goodwill that
could be granted a political figure was bestowed
on him. The global economy was such that it
fueled our growth. Everyone wanted Nigeria to
succeed after emerging from years of noxious
military rule. Despite the flawed exercise that
rendered him president, we all bit our tongues in
hope that he would say and do the right things
that would move Nigeria forward.
“Instead of being a unifying figure as
Commander-in-chief, he lowered himself to being
a divisive, vindictive conniver. There was no table
which he neared that he did not upset and
overturn. There was no one who came into his
company for any period of time with whom he did
not fall out if he expresses a thought contrary to
one of his.
“He tried to convert our young democracy into a
one party state. His PDP boasted that they would
rule for 60 uninterrupted years. Never did they
boast that they would govern us well during even
one year of the sixty. He could have placed the
economy on the path to durable growth and
shared prosperity through diversification,
industrialization and creation of a social safety
net for the poor. Instead, he handed the economy
over to a tight group of cronies, turning what
should be a modern economy into a version of the
mammoth trading companies that dominated the
17th and 18th century. The Transcorp
conglomerate was intended to be a throwback to
monopolistic enterprises such as the East Indian
Company wherein a select handful would control
the national economy’s strategic heights.
“We hoped that Obasanjo would personify
statesmanship, thus showing the way to a more
benign political culture. Instead, he bickered and
feuded with his vice president and mostly anyone
who dared remind him that he was human and
thus infallible.
“Given the vast margin between the good he
could have achieved and the nebulous feats that
comprise his true record, Chief Obasanjo is the
person most responsible for the flaws in the
Nigerian political economy since 1999. His ego is
as expansive as the firmament but his good
deeds would fit into a modest sachet with ample
room to spare.
“The worst of Obasanjo’s record, I have yet to
describe. When it comes to elections, he has been
a rigger without peer. There is no election which
occurred under Obasanjo’s watch or in which he
participated that did not involve cheating on his
part. Even the late President Umaru Musa Yar
‘Adua admitted he was the beneficiary of a flawed
election engineered by none other than today’s
vociferous complainant. For Obasanjo to lament
over electoral malpractice is tantamount to the
ocean complaining that a few raindrops are
causing it to get wet.
“In his writing, Obasanjo alleges the Osun election
indicates rigging will take place in the coming
contests. Let’s go straight to the truth, Obasanjo
has no grievance with the process. His personal
history suggests fair process is the least of his
concerns. What knocks Obasanjo off kilter is that
he could not dictate the result in Osun. He told
those in the PDP that he held sway in Osun and
throughout the Southwest. They believed him. He
led them to defeat notwithstanding the almost
impossible voter turnout in PDP strongholds in
that state. Obasanjo can only win an election
when has the final say over the final vote tally.
Otherwise, he is a troubled man.
“In an attempt to relieve his trouble, Chief
Obasanjo makes reference to a joke about INEC.
He says, “The INEC was asked if the Commission
was ready for the election and if it expects the
election to be free, fair and credible. The INEC
man is reported as saying in response, ‘we are
ready with everything including the results.’” The
joke has a touch of humor; we are glad that
Obasanjo is not completely devoid of this most
human of traits. However, he makes a telling
omission by failing to give you the vintage of this
bit of sarcasm.
“The jest was not born last week. It’s vintage is
circa 2003- a time when a certain President
Obasanjo rode roughshod over INEC. He would
summon the nervous INEC chairman to the Villa,
proceeding to hector the man until he gave way
to Obasanjo’s demands. At Obasanjo’s urging,
INEC improperly published fake election results on
the gubernatorial race in Lagos. Not until a public
outcry did INEC back away from rigging Lagos. A
similar attempt was made in Lagos in 2007. In
essence, for Obasanjo to laugh at this joke means
he has belatedly developed the ability to laugh at
himself.
“If Obasanjo was so committed to free elections,
how could he countenance Atiku’s recent boast of
single-handedly rigging elections in the
Southwest. Atiku claimed that he took all states
for the PDP but left Lagos alone due to some
misguided affinity for me. By this statement, Atiku
publicly admitted to rigged elections in the SW.
Beyond resort to wholesale rigging, Atiku could
never deign to be more popular and potent in the
Southwest than the panoply of good and decent
leaders that guided the defunct AC. Moreover, I
can assure you that we did not need Atiku’s false
beneficence to win the elections in Lagos. The
people voted for us and their votes countered the
ill-designs Obasanjo and Atiku set in motion.
Thus, if Obasanjo cannot chastise Atiku for
publicly boasting that he rigged elections, then
Obasanjo’s display of righteous indignation is but
a magician’s trick.
“His fine words and sentiments come a dozen
years too late. These noble things would have
greater effect had he placed them into practice
when he was at the helm of affairs. At that time,
he was powerful so he did as he might. Now that
he lacks power, he has taken to preach that
which he never did.
“In his commentary, he mentions that INEC has a
record of past rigging. I wonder if he understands
the admission he makes. No other president has
exercised such tight control over INEC for as
many years as Obasanjo. No president has had
the domineering relationship with INEC that
Obasanjo enjoyed. If there are reports of past
INEC rigging, those reports are of Obasanjo’s
making. It is the irony of ironies for Obasanjo to
complain of the fruit on the table when his was
the hand that planted the tree.
“Chief Obasanjo tries to further confuse matters
by pointing to the case of the CJN’s assets
declaration as evidence of future vote-rigging via
tampering with the judiciary. Again, Obasanjo
goes into a personality shift. For years, Obasanjo
has boasted of himself as our corruption fighter
nonpareil. The very aim of this current letter is to
attack imagined INEC malfeasance. Yet, with
regard to the CJN, he blithely ignores the large
cache of dollars in the CJN’s account and the
millions of dollars that passed through the
accounts. Obasanjo seems unbothered by the
unexplained presence of such sums. Perhaps
Obasanjo’s nonchalance regarding the money is
that he expected the funds there because he
knows both the origin and reasons for the trove.
“Chief Obasanjo sinks so low as to suggest that
the VP, during the exercise of his official duties,
was taking the PVC numbers of market women
and traders. This statement reveals the bilious
nature of the man. Obasanjo even quotes the
notorious Bode George in claiming that the VP
was “gutting our collective treasury” by giving
loans of N10,000 to market women under the
administration’s empowerment programs.
“What? Giving money to poor people to enhance
their lives and escape the maw of poverty is, by
PDP metrics, gutting the collective treasury. If
helping the poor is gutting the treasury, Atiku’s
privatizing large chunks of the economy into his
own pocket must have been seen by the PDP as
a vital public service. Jonathan and his Petroleum
Minister’s siphoning government coffers of several
billion dollars to enrich the already-rich must
have been viewed by the PDP as the epitome of a
social safety net. Obasanjo’s and the PDP’s
disdain for the common person could not be
clearer.
“Obasanjo should be ashamed to even raise this
issue. When he was president, the economy was
on an easy sledding due to positive global trends.
Obasanjo did not raise a finger to do anything for
the poor. He and Atiku were champions of trickle-
down economics. If anything good trickled down
to the poor it was by accident. Obasanjo left the
poor unattended because he cared nothing for
them. Poverty increased under his cold
indifference. Not one meaningful social program
was established during his watch. The banking
and pension deregulation he brought were geared
to profit the wealthy CEO’s and managers of
these financial entities. The malpractices
attendant to these deregulation fiascos
extinguished the savings of millions of Nigerians.
In reliance on these artifices of Obasanjo and his
ilk, many Nigerians were thrust down the lower
rungs of the poverty they so desperately sought
to avoid. Obasanjo’s allies gobbled the savings of
the poor and still feast on them to this day.
“Chief Obasanjo is one of the last people to
preach to anyone about using public funds to care
for the poor. He had the gall to fret that funds
should not be given to the urban poor because
they are not poor enough. But his grouse does
not show any defect in the administration’s
program. His complaint shows the defect in
Obasanjo’s humanity or lack of it. To complain
that some people are not poor enough for his
liking is to reveal that seeing human suffering
does not motivate him to cure it. He would rather
that people suffer it the more. Your unease and
distress becomes his entertainment or at least
evidence he is superior to the common man.
Watching a laborer struggle against penury is no
more than a spectator sport for Obasanjo.
“The most fantastic of all his claims is that this
administration has returned Nigeria to the days of
Abacha. If this were true, the press would be
constantly closed. Obasanjo would be constricted
in writing such letters. Elections would not be
upon us. Atiku would not be able to freely
campaign and the diversity of opinion in the
public space would be suppressed.
“For Obasanjo to utter such an outrage is that he
hopes lighting strikes twice. He was ushered into
office after Abacha’s demise. He thinks if he can
invoke Abacha’s name, the same thing will
happen again. By hook, crook or utter fantasy,
Obasanjo seeks to return to Aso Villa, not as an
irritating, importuning guest but as a long-term
resident. He wants to be back in control. If he
cannot be president, then the president better
carve from his office a special room for Obasanjo.
“Obasanjo thinks he is more than the greatest
Nigerian. He thinks himself greater than Nigeria
itself. Unless he is allowed to lead the procession,
he will groan, grouse and grit. However, neither
President Buhari nor the progressive APC have
much use for his reactionary policies and his
megalomaniac ways. Thus, we shall be forced to
endure more of his letters. But enduring such
missives is vastly superior and small price to pay
for not having to endure a repeat of his
unenlightened misgovernance”.

World Politics / Pdp Chides Tinubu Over Comments On Obasanjo by Truevine: 11:49 pm On 1 Jan 2019
…Hails former President as a global figure
By Dirisu Yakubu
ABUJA- The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has
called on the All Progressives Congress, APC,
national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to be
mindful of the choice of his words when making
statements about the country’s foremost
nationalists.
The party was reacting to Tinubu’s remarks on
President Olusegun Obasanjo following the latter’s
public letter in which he questioned the fitness of
the President for the exalted office beyond 2019.
Describing the former governor’s comments as
disrespectful and reckless, PDP in a statement by
its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan said “Tinubu in
his tirade against the former President sounded
like a disrobed ruler facing a pang of defeat as he
watches his empire being legitimately taken.”
The statement read: “It is shocking that Asiwaju
of Lagos can be in cahoots with President
Muhammadu Buhari, who has always been in
league with all known dictators, while at the
same time claiming to be on the side of
democrats.
“It is however not a surprise that Tinubu is in
severe pain because President Obasanjo exposed
their rigging plans. Asiwaju had always won
elections for himself and his cronies through
rigging and this account for his bitterness.
“His reliance on rigging was typified in the Osun
election where results were manipulated in order
not to ‘disgrace’ the fading politics of the Asiwaju
of Lagos.
“Let it be placed on record that the story of that
election has not been fully told by Tinubu in his
snide remarks against President Obasanjo. He
chose to be silent on that phone call which was
clandestinely put across to Abuja, consequent
upon which the Independent National Electoral
Commission, INEC, declared an election already
won by the PDP, as inconclusive. Since the
matter is in court, we will not join Tinubu in
abusing court processes.”
‘Buhari medically fit, mentally sound to lead
Nigeria beyond 2019’
The party also called on Tinubu to search his
conscience and come up with a denial that he
shares not closeness with Atiku.
“It is also important to state that Atiku Abubakar
did not claim to have rigged election in the
South-West. However, if Tinubu today denies his
affinity with Atiku Abubakar, which is well known
in the entire nation, then he can deny even his
own existence,” the statement continued, adding
that “it is an established fact that Obasanjo
remains a statesman and a global figure who
always speak the truth to power and put the
interest of our nation above all.
On the commitment to anti-graft war, the party
further noted that “President Obasanjo and PDP
genuinely fought corruption in this country. With
the establishment of Independent Corrupt
Practices and Other Related Offences Commission,
ICPC, Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, Special Fraud Intelligence
Unit, SFIU in the police as well as the Nigerian
Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, to
investigate economic crimes and corruption
activities as well as trial of Nigerians believed to
have committed wrongdoings.
“Under President Obasanjo, there were no sacred
cows in the fight against corruption, unlike what
we are witnessing today, in which corruption has
become pervasive under the nose of President
Buhari in the presidential villa”.
The party further said it was ridiculous “that
Tinubu can attempt to justify the sharing of N10,
000 each to traders, in the market by Vice
President Yemi Osinbajo, saying it believe that
“Asiwaju of Lagos has not read and like President
Buhari is also unaware that the same poor people
which Osinbajo claimed to be helping with his
‘tradermoni’ voodoo, chased him out of the UTC
market in Abuja.
“It is imperative to ask Tinubu if he saw the
cartoon making the round, where poor people
were depicted thronging around him with paltry
N10,000 in their hands while he sat on his throne
with full chicken in his hands and telling the
famished lot that he has nothing to offer them.
“Nigerians already know that their help is not in
the hands of people like Asiwaju of Lagos and
President Buhari, who are amassing wealth for
themselves and their generations yet unborn,
while the people live in squalor.
Osinbajo and the politicians who went to
Dubai
“In modern day governance, leaders do not give
handouts to the citizens, they create enabling
environment for them to prosper. We challenge
Asiwaju of Lagos to go round the markets of
Idumota, Alaba, Ikeja Yaba and ask the traders if
the N10, 000 has yielded them the profit to
purchase hotels, oil companies, airlines, and tax
colleting agencies.
“Since Asiwaju of Lagos understands the reason
for collation of PVC numbers in exchange for the
N10, 000 trader money, he will do the nation
good, especially at this time, if he provides
explanation for this joint venture outside rigging
of elections.
“It is shameful that Tinubu can compare any
administration in the history of our nation to the
Buhari administration. Nigerians have never been
this hungry, our purchasing power has never been
this low, our fault lines have never been this
manifest and our nation has never been turned
into a huge funeral parlour as we have witnessed
under President Buhari’s incompetent, divisive
and colossally corrupt administration. At no time
in our history had Nigerians gone to the Third
Mainland Bridge in Lagos to take a plunge to
death.”

Weird News / Witness Testifies Against Driver Accused Of Killing Ex-oyo Chief Judge by Truevine: 11:47 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Mrs Mattah Olumide, a neigbour to the murdered
former Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice
Oyetunde Ruth, on Tuesday testified against one
Adeyinka Ademakinwa arraigned over the incident.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that
Ademakinwa, the driver of the deceased, was
alleged to have killed the retired chief judge on
Aug. 19 about 7:00 a.m.
The defendant had already pleaded not guilty to
the charge and was denied bail.
Olumide, who resides at No. 9, Ondo Close, Bodija
Estate, was led in evidence by the Prosecuting
Counsel, Abdulah Olawale.
The witness told the court that she last saw the
late chief judge on Aug. 18, 2011.
“The deceased was my neigbour because we stay
in the same compound and I have known her for
over 10 years before she died.
“I last saw her in the morning of Aug.18, 2011
when I was going to the office and she told me
that day that she wanted to renovate the motor
way in the premises and spray it with anti-snake
chemical.
“The deceased lived alone, but on that Aug. 18,
2011, I saw her in the house with her driver,
Adeyinka Ademakinwa, and her husband, Justice
Oyetunde.
“His driver also came around that morning,’’ the
witness said.
Olumide said she did not see the deceased on
Aug. 19, 2011 and Aug. 20, 2011.
She said one of the deceased’s daughters, Deji,
had called her on phone from Lagos to ask if she
had seen her to which she responded “no”
The witness said Deji also called back on Aug.
20, 2011 to ask about the deceased, prompting
her to visit the premises to check.
“On getting to the deceased’s apartment, I
noticed that the door was locked from inside with
a padlock and I told Deji to come down to
Ibadan.
“It was when Deji and her siblings, Bode and
Ronke, came around that the door was forced
open with a saw and we saw the deceased’s
lifeless body lying in the pool of her blood.
“It was observed that the back door of the
apartment of the deceased was not locked.
“ The matter was later reported at the Bodija
Police Station and the corpse deposited at Moli
Hospital,’’ Olumide said.
Under cross examination by the defence counsel,
Mr Wale Olajide, the witness said the security dog
in the compound did not bark as it usually does
when someone enters the premises.
Olumide said that she did not hear the barking of
the dog to indicate that somebody came in or
went out of the compound on Aug. 19 and Aug.
20, 2011.
“I did not see the deceased on these two days,
except on Aug. 18, 2011,” she said.
Justice M.O. Fadeyi adjourned the case till Feb. 5
for continuation of hearing.

World Politics / 2019 Election: Can Speaks On Endorsement Of Presidential Candidate by Truevine: 11:37 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has
disclosed that it has not endorsed and will never
endorse any presidential candidate.
Daramola Joseph Bade, CAN Ag. General, in a
statement on Tuesday, stated that CAN is
apolitical, non-partisan and impartial.
He said its members cut across all political
divides and that some of them are even
contesting for one post or the other.
“So, the idea of endorsing any candidate as
favourite does not arise. We have not and will not
endorse any candidate for any elective office in
the country”, the scribe added.
“You will recall that CAN recently met with some
leading Presidential candidates in Abuja to
interact with them and to present our position of
the State of the Nation to them and to listen to
their manifestoes and programmes.
“At the end of the meeting, we came out with a
position without endorsing any of the candidates.
“CAN recognizes Nigeria’s multi-religious and
multicultural composition and is not in denial of
these realities. However, in our federal system, it
is crucial for all constituents to commit to respect
of the fundamental human rights of other groups
as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as
amended.
“It is against this background that CAN raised
serious concerns with the candidates over the
sustained violent attacks on, and persecution of
the Church in Nigeria today.
“CAN understands that if the principle of good

World Politics / Elections: Possession Of Weapons At Rallies Will Not Be Condoned In Lagos—cp by Truevine: 11:35 pm On 1 Jan 2019
The police and other security agencies in Lagos
State have said they will deal decisively with
anyone found with arms during any political
gathering in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP
Edgal Imohimin, said this on Tuesday while
briefing newsmen on the activities of the Inter-
Agency Consultative Committee ahead of the
forthcoming general elections.
The press conference was also attended by the
INEC’s REC for the state,Mr Sam Olumeko, and
the heads of other security agencies.
“I have ordered all Area Commanders and
Divisional Police Officers to, henceforth, face
anyone found to be armed with firearms at
political gathering with proportional force which
may be the use of arms when necessary.
“We assure Lagosians that we have made
adequate security arrangements and what we
expect of them is their cooperation,” he said.
Edgal, who is the chairman of the committee, said
that the meeting was about security preparations
for the 2019 elections which will cover before,
during and after.
He said that the meeting had the mission not
only to analyse critically but to come out with a
clear blue print that would be acceptable by all
and sundries.
According to Edgal, the blueprint will also be
accountable, be professional and not be practiced
outside the law.
“Already, there is the crime analysis of zones and
independent analyses by other security agencies.
INEC has also commissioned experts to do its
own assessment.
“Today, we are looking at some of these
independent and security agencies’ assessments
of crimes in the state and we will come up with
strategies that will make these areas calm.
“We want to deliver to Lagosians a peaceful state
where they can cast their votes without any form
of harassment,” he said.
The police boss said they had done their
appraisal and strategised on what was expected
to be done to boost security in the state,
stressing that they had updated their plans.
“We will employ more manpower and resources
as we have been briefed adequately by other
security agencies.
“We, hereby, call on Lagosians to be vigilant as
we have gotten information that some people are
planning to enter the state and impersonate
security agents during the elections and that they
have sewn uniforms.
“The advice is that they jettison the idea as we
have put in place overt and covert measures to
arrest the perpetrators and they will be made to
face the full wrath of the law.
“Our waterways are also being monitored by the
police in partnership with the Navy and the
locals. This effort will also be reciprocated on
land.
“The learning points have been taken into
recognition and there will be no repeat of what
happened in the past.
“Every rally will now be handled with
methodological strategy whereby people will be
screened from carrying light arms,” he said.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for
the state , Mr Sam. Olumekun, said that the
meeting was about security preparation for the
elections and that he believed the police would be
active.
“We have a detailed deployment profile of those
who will be deployed for security during the
elections which is commendable.
Police, Army, others in show of force in
Lagos
`We will start training them and we assure
Lagosians that we are determined to conduct a
free and fair election,” he said.
The police , the military, INEC officials and other
security agencies in Lagos participated in the
meeting.

Programming / Whatsapp Cuts Recipients Of Forwarded Messages To Curb Fake News by Truevine: 11:33 pm On 1 Jan 2019
WhatsApp Messenger, popular text messaging
service, has reduced messages a user can forward
to five recipients, in an effort to reduce the spread
of false information.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that
WhatsApp Messenger, acclaimed to be the
world’s most popular messaging app, is a
freeware and cross-platform messaging and Voice
over IP (VoIP) service owned by Facebook.
The application allows the sending of text
messages and voice calls, as well as video calls,
images and other media, documents, and user
location.
Previously, users could forward messages to up to
20 recipients, but now the limit will be five.
According to USA TODAY, from Monday, all users
on the latest versions of WhatsApp can now
forward to only five chats at once.
“Like Facebook, which has been battling misuse
on its platform, with 1.5 billion users – is also
fighting to wipe out fake information on the social
network.
“Despite five sounding like a small number,The
Verge points out that messages could still get
forwarded to groups, which can have as many as
256 people.
“That means a forwarded message could be put
in front of nearly 1,300 people, despite the five
time limit.”
It added that WhatsApp carefully evaluated this
test and listened to user feedback over six
months.

World Politics / Obasanjo Responsible For Flaws In Nigeria’s Political Economy Since 1999 – Tinubu by Truevine: 11:29 pm On 1 Jan 2019
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress
(APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was an election rigger
without peer and is responsible for most of the
flaws in the Nigerian political economy since
1999.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader
of the All Progressives Congress gave this view in
Lagos on Tuesday in a letter entitled: ‘Chief
Obasanjo -At War Against his Own Deeds’.
Tinubu wrote the letter in response to Obasanjo’s
earlier letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, in
which Obasanjo chastised Buhari and his
administration, claiming, without any proof, that
the president was preparing to rig next month’s
poll.
In Tinubu’s view, Obasanjo in levelling the
uncorroborated accusation was merely projecting
on to the APC the electoral misconduct he would
have perpetrated if still in power
Tinubu, also the Co-Chair of the APC Presidential
Campaign, said Obasanjo was handed Nigeria on
a silver platter in 1999. But he chose to squander
the opportunity of leadership.
“This man should have positioned himself to be
the father of the nation. All the goodwill that
could be granted a political figure was bestowed
on him. The global economy was such that it
should have fuelled our growth.
”Everyone wanted Nigeria to succeed after
emerging from years of noxious military rule.
Despite the flawed exercise that rendered him
president, we all bit our tongues in hope that he
would say and do the right things that would
move Nigeria forward.
“Instead of being a unifying figure as
Commander-in-chief, he lowered himself to being
a divisive, vindictive conniver. There was no table
which he neared that he did not upset and
overturn, ” he said.
Tinubu said that Obasanjo had the opportunity of
placing the economy on the path to durable
growth and shared prosperity through
diversification, industrialisation and creation of a
social safety net for the poor.
”He tried to convert our young democracy into a
one party state. His PDP boasted that they would
rule for 60 uninterrupted years. Never did they
boast that they would govern us well during even
one year of the sixty.
”Instead, he handed the economy over to a tight
group of cronies, turning what should be a
modern economy into a version of the mammoth
trading companies that dominated the 17th and
18th century.
“We hoped that Obasanjo would personify
statesmanship, thus showing the way to a more
benign political culture. Instead, he bickered and
feuded with his vice president and mostly anyone
who dared remind him that he was human and
thus infallible.
“Given the vast margin between the good he
could have achieved and the nebulous feats that
comprise his true record, Chief Obasanjo is the
person most responsible for the flaws in the
Nigerian political economy since 1999, ” he said.
Tinubu also described the former president as an
election rigger without peer.
According to Tinubu, the ways of Obasanjo are
not those of the APC. And this difference has
meant the better for Nigeria.
“There is no election which occurred under
Obasanjo’s watch or in which he participated that
did not involve cheating on his part.
“Even the late President Umaru Musa Yar ‘Adua
admitted he was the beneficiary of a flawed
election engineered by none other than today’s
vociferous complainant.
”Former President Obasanjo is many things to
many people; but he is all things unto himself.
”This election will be a free and open exercise of
the people’s right to choose their leaders.
Obasanjo makes fiery allegations against this
right but offers no corroborating evidence; he
presents only reams of words.
”This is because Obasanjo is projecting onto the
APC the misconduct he would have wrought if
still in power. Yet, the ways of Obasanjo are not
those of the APC. And this difference has meant
the better for Nigeria,’ he said.

World Politics / 2019 Presidency: Miyetti Allah Under Fire For Endorsing President Buhari by Truevine: 11:27 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Concerned Fulani leaders have expressed
disagreement with the recent endorsement of
President Muhammadu Buhari by the Miyetti Allah
Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN.
The leaders said the laws guiding the affairs of
the association do not allow it to dabble into
partisan politics.
Chairman of the concerned Fulani leaders, Alhaji
Walid Jibrin, at a press conference in Kaduna on
Tuesday, said neither the executives nor the
national chairman of the MACBAN can take a
major decision without consulting and seeking the
consent of members of the Board of Trustees and
patrons of the association.
He said, “Such decision taken recently by the
association without the knowledge of the BOT and
patrons and majority of registered members is
anarchy and disrespect and amounts to dragging
our paramount ruler into politics.”
Jibrin who doubles as the Sarkin Fulan in Dangi
Nasarawa, pointed out that the Miyetti Allah
owes the Sultan of Sokoto, Emir of Kano, Emir of
Katsina, Emir of Zazzau and Lamido of Adamawa
apologies for being ignorant of the rules guiding
the association and for not running the MACBAN
for the full benefit of members.
The Sarkin Yakin Dangawa Yaan Tumaki of
Katsina, also disclosed that concerned Fulani
groups and Ardos and members of MACBAN who
are not in support of the Miyeti Allah’s decision
would soon meet to counter the stand.
“I want Nigerians to know that we have over 25
Fulani associations in Nigeria that are fully
registered and over 500 categories of Fulani race
living in Nigeria with even some who are unable
to speak Fulfulde due to the general global
changes like the current global climate change
affecting the world,” he said.
Jibrin said representatives of these groups will
attend the forthcoming Fulani conference and “will
tell the world their stand in the forthcoming
election by choosing their presidential choice who
is ready to satisfy the demand of the Fulani and
who will settle the feud of farmer-communities
with herdsmen.”
He said: “I, therefore, call on the Fulani never to
be deceived again by anybody no matter how
highly placed. Fulani must talk with one voice
among our over 6,000 voters in Nigeria. I call on
Miyetti Allah not to further add fuel to the fire.”
He said associations “should rather be fighting for
Fulani who have no land for rearing, no water
ponds, no functional nomadic schools, no cattle
path which are now blocked and should pave way
for Fulani to live peacefully with all tribes in
Nigeria.”

Religion / Your Heart by Truevine: 09:24 pm On 1 Jan 2019
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4 vs 23.
Beloved, your heart is a fountain of vision that needs to be kept carefully. Your heart is so big that it can accommodate both the good and the evil. Let it be known to you that you are a product of your thoughts. What goes on in your mind determines to a large extent what you do and who you are. Therefore, you have to be very careful of what you dwell upon in your heart. Your heart is at liberty to think on anything either good or bad. But it is your responsibility to ensure that what goes on within you
is always good. For you to have a clean heart that will always bring out good thoughts, you need to load your heart with the word of God. 'I have hidden your word in my heart that i might not sin against you. Psalm 119 vs 11. 'Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to GOD. 'Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.
You have to continually renew your mind with the word of GOD and positively change your thought pattern. With a clean heart, you will be able to decide and accept what God wants for you. And if your heart is so polluted that what comes out of it is always evil, then, there is an urgent need for you to ask for a clean heart. 'Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.' Psalm 51 vs 10
